The recent duplication of WoolnerRoadDinah Beach Road ofTiger Brennan Drive means asafer and more efficient drive toget to and from the city.

Expanding Tiger Brennan Drive intodual lanes is an exciting developmentfor all motorists. 18,000 vehicles use

    Tiger Brennan Drive every day.

Not only is Tiger Brennan Drive now

a safer road, the time it takes to travelalong this popular stretch shouldnow be reduced. The Australian and

    BecausePalmerstondeserves it

    Northern Territory Governments both

recognise that the Top End is a growingdestination, with economic and buildingactivity in Palmerston booming due to

our carefully planned land release andinfrastructure strategy.

Duplication of the Berrimah Road Woolner Road stretch of Tiger BrennanDrive will soon begin and is expected

to be fully complete by 2016.

For the people of Palmerston, thismeans less time in the car and more

    time with the family.

In late April I had the pleasureof welcoming one of my newestDrysdale constituents into one ofnine new apartments in Driver.

These apartments were the first of 125

new affordable homes to be constructedand managed by the Territorys affordablehousing rental company, Venture Housing.

The cost of rent is one of the key issuesfacing Palmerston families and I am

pleased to see these units will help easethose pressures with the units to berented to eligible tenants from between

55 to 75 per cent of market rents, which

    New affordable housingfor Palmerston workers

is no more than $395 per week. These

new homes will ease the cost of living forfamilies and key workers in retail, tradesand hospitality, who are vital to our plans

to develop Northern Australia and grow

our economy. The new affordable rental properties are

part of the Governments Real Housingfor Growth plan, which will deliver a totalof 2000 new affordable homes across the

    Territory by 2016-17.

For more information on the af fordable

    rental properties visit:www.venturehousing.org.au

The Palmerston RSL did a fantasticjob organising a large number ofcommemorative services for ANZACDay.

I personally attended the 4.30am GunfireBreakfast, Dawn Service, RSL Breakfast,March, Morning Service and Two-Up atthe RSL.

It is estimated that 1000 people attendedthe dawn service and 1500 attended the

    morning service.

The Palmerston RSL confirmed that the

march was the biggest we have ever

BMXThe Satellite City BMX Club is avery popular community facility inPalmerston but sadly, after 30 years, the club is looking worse for wear.

So old are the facilities, the Club actually

has reservations the canteen, which isnothing more than a tin shed, could fail

occupational health and safety standards ifurgent upgrades arent carried out.

The clubhouse is nothing more than a few

shelves to store trophies while the toiletblocks have long passed their use-by-date.

The Country Liberals Governments$300,000 in funding will rejuvenate the clubwith a brand new air-conditioned clubhouse

and canteen to be built on site as well asnew toilets.

The Country Liberals Government granted the Satellite City BMX Club$300,000 to build a new clubhouse, canteen, toilet block and upgradesto bring the track up to national standards.

Gray Community Garden is awonderful place for the Palmerstoncommunity to get together andenjoy the outdoors.

I am so proud to be part of this projectand enjoy the many community workingbees that we have in the garden.

The Gray Community Garden is a chancefor people to reconnect with nature and

get back to the basics of growing yourown fruit and vegetables.

Gardening is not only a relaxing hobby, but it can also be a great social activity. The end product of eating wholesome,

GRAY COMMUNITY GARDENhome-grown produce is just as rewardingas the time spent tending to and caringfor the garden.

I encourage parents to consider usingthe Gray Community Garden as a way

to spend constructive time with theirchildren and use it as a tool to educatethem on the benefits of maintaining a

    vegie patch.

The Garden is also useful for those whohave limited yard space at home or arentable to create a vegetable garden due totheir rental accommodation.

    The Gray Community Garden even

hosted a very special guest in June whenCosta Georgiadis from ABCs Gardening

Australia visited Palmerston to participatein several wonderful activities.

Costa helped to build a spiral herb garden

and passed on some other very helpful tipsto all of the green-thumbs that attended.

Also, I offer massive congratulations tothe newly elected committee. You will

undoubtedly do a marvellous job underNaomis leadership.

Territory Day 2014 started with a wonderful citizenship ceremony on the balcony of Parliament House.

    Territory Day Citizenship Ceremony

I was thrilled to facilitate a National Tree Dayevent where students from Good Shepherd

Lutheran College and Durack School got theirhands dirty to beautify University Avenue.

NationalTree DayGray Child Care Centre washanded over by the City ofPalmerston to the NorthernTerritory Government on 30 June.

The benefit of this handover is that theNTG will be able to secure affordablechildcare in an area of great need.

The NTG saw this as a better option forPalmerston families than if the City of

Palmerston was to sell the Gray ChildCare Centre to a private operator.

Palmerston is a young and vibrant

community with 52 per cent of thepopulation under the age of 30 and 10per cent under the age of five, making

child and family support the highest ofpriorities.

Gray Child CareConstruction of the new PalmerstonChild and Family Centre is nearingcompletion and will provide 50 childcare

places, family and parenting supportand child and maternal health services.

It will support the integration ofservices for families and ensure priorityof access for the local Indigenous

    community.

Construction of the centre is nearingcompletion. The government will

soon announce a public request forproposals for management of the

facility. An information session for interestedparties was recently held at Gray
