DC’s Report A short DC report for you this month. Remember all riders that if you are out competing, you MUST show both your new blue card and your yellow card. It is the RIDER'S responsibility to make sure that your cards are correctly filled out so please check your cards when at the rally. August is testing month. Good luck to all those riders doing their D and D* Certificates this rally. This Saturday 3 August is the second trial for Speed to Safety being held at the Geelong Racecourse at 11am. We have two riders in contention to represent Barwon Zone at the finals to be held at Caulfield Racecourse on 31 August. Mel Webb is currently in first place. Brie Snellaars is only a couple of seconds behind. Hopefully these riders will be selected to ride at Caulfield and we may even have some tickets for our club to go along and support our club’s riders on their big day. Good luck this Saturday.

My name is Jenna Krause, I am 11 years old and in the Clydies group at pony club. My pony's name is Georgie and my favourite lessons at pony club are cross country and show jumping. I attend South Geelong Primary School and am in grade 5. My favourite colour is blue and my favourite football team is the Geelong Cats! I love to eat spaghetti and my favourite fruit is cantaloupe. When I am not riding I like to play horse jumping games! Non-‐horsey stuff I like to do is dance and play on the Bearville site on my laptop. I love riding at pony club and seeing my friends there. I started at pony club when I was six, riding my shetland called Duke, then I rode my sister’s pony Poppy for a while. She is old and retired, and now I lend Georgie from a nice family. She is 12.3hh and grey. She can do anything and I love her very much, but sometimes she is a bit cranky because she is getting old. We compete a lot, mostly at jumping, but lately some more
dressage. My proudest moments on her were winning the BEST show jumping in 2012 and winning our first dressage test this year.

Pony Club National
Championships Update Being selected for pony club national championships and qualifying for interschool nationals sure was exciting. Then the reality sank in. Organising horse transport and vaccinations, travel and accommodation has proved to be a challenge let alone paying for it.
Mingo and I are training very hard in preparation for Perth. Mingo is being worked five times a week and eating like a horse! We have him on a special diet to build condition and keep him fit and healthy for the travel.
We’ve had a couple of good comps lately, winning the elementary championship at the Geelong College inter schools last Sunday. Coming up I have a clinic with Clemens, the German coach from Sydney.
Mingo goes on the horse truck at the end of August to stay with a friend in Perth and I will be joining him a week later for final preparations.
CAN’T WAIT!
Happy Riding, Lilly

Did you know you can gain Certificates whilst you have fun and learn at Pony Club? Our friendly instructors take the D and D star certificates here at pony club in March and August. The objectives of the Pony Club Efficiency certificates are to help young riders learn and gain confidence in handling and riding their pony. You are awarded with a certificate and a coloured disc to go behind your PCAV badge. Each certificate has a different colored disc. The Certificates available are: D, D star, C, C star, K, B and A. To gain your D certificate you need to be 7 years old and over, and be able to walk, trot and canter your pony by yourself, get on and off safely, and know a little bit about parts of the horse and your bridle and saddle. Most young riders who have been to 2-3 rallies and can ride alone will be able to have a go. The yellow D/D star book is available to buy at the club rooms, about $25.00 To gain your D Star certificate you need to be 9 years old and over, and have already gained your D certificate. Riders should be able to change direction at trot and canter, trot and canter at different speeds, ride with reins in one hand, be able to jump some small jumps, know some riding road riding rules, and know about feeding your horse. Riders will have been to pony club for 6 months - 1 year and will be confident on their pony. The yellow D/D star book is available to buy at the club rooms, about $25.00 I have a list of riders who are eligible to do their D certificate at the August rally. To do the D certificate riders must be 7 years or older, been to two rallies on their pony, be able to ride off lead at walk, trot and canter, get on and off safely, jump a small jump or two, and have some basic knowledge of their pony and saddlery and how to look after him/her. If you have any concerns about doing the D certificate this rally, please let me know. These riders who will be 9 in March 2014 will be eligible to try their D star certificate. D certificate candidates for the August 2013 rally are:
• Sophie Browne • Kailah Kiddle • Leonora Turner • Liberty Armitage • Maggie Patmore
More information about the certificates can be found on the website: www.ponyclubvic.org.au under coaching-education, certificates and procedures. Sam Krause

Clinton Anderson Philosophy
Format: Hardcover Number of Pages: 152 Author: Clinton Anderson Price: AUD $39.95 inc GST http://www.horsebooks.com.au/product/0/82707/clinton-anderson-philosophy-9781570766237/ The key to enjoying a safe, fun and fulfilling partnership with your horse is having the knowledge and confidence to lead and train him. All great partnerships are based on three elements: trust, respect and communication.
Every child under 17 years must be accompanied at all times by a parent or nominated guardian at all pony club events. If parents cannot attend they must sign a form designating who will be the guardian on that day, and the guardian must also sign if in agreement. This is an important safety issue.
