Dry Disconnect Couplings are safety components. They facilitate fast coupling and decoupling of fi lled hose and pipe lines

under pressure without signifi cant leaks or loss of the handled fl uid. They are used everywhere where people and/or the

environment need to be protected from hazardous leaks of media (caustic, toxic, explosive, etc.), or vice-versa when sensitive

media (e.g. foodstuffs as well as pharmaceutical and fi ne chemical products) need to be kept safe from environmental

contamination.

Depending on the fi eld of application, different technical

designs are needed, all of which however work on the fol-

lowing basic principle:

Both coupling halves in the separated (decoupled) state

are blocked by a sealing mechanism so that no media can

escape. When coupling, both halves are initially connected

with each other tightly sealed before the sealing mecha-

nism can be opened and a fl ow channel inside the cou-

pling is enabled. Vice-versa, before separation, both cou-

pling halves are fi rst closed again so that the fl ow channel

is blocked.

For this purpose, dry disconnect couplings are equip-ped with the following basic functions:

› Safe connection of the coupling halves. Hose and tank

units are impermeably connected to one another.

› Sealing mechanism for both coupling halves to prevent

the media from leaking.

› Safety in design. The mandatory operating sequence of

points 1 and 2 prevents undesirable product leakages.

› Integrated swivel joint in order to prevent hose torsion.

› Depending on the application, there are different

coupling types, which differ primarily in terms of their

valve form, e.g. disc valve, sleeve valve and ball valve.

Only a specialist is qualifi ed to clearly specify the choice

of a suitable dry disconnect coupling. Each application al-

ways requires individual requests and advice. That is why

we have restricted this catalogue to the technologies typi-

cally used in the broad market. A distinction is made here

between the valve-controlled sealing systems and the „full

fl ow“ constructions.

TX seriesNEW generation that is also STANAG-compatible

Operating principleThe TX series corresponds to the most modern require-

ments and is based on the proven bayonet principle accor-

ding to NATO STANAG 3756.

The coupling consists of two different halves, tank and

hose unit, each fi tted with a disk valve. When connecting,

the hose unit is positioned axially onto the tank unit and

sealed.

A further turn through about 100° opens the valves by

displacement into the tank unit, leaving a ring-shaped fl ow

channel open. To disconnect the coupling is turned in the

opposite direction.

The valves in both halves of the coupling are closed. Only

then can the two halves of the coupling be separated.

Application examplesfor loading solutions in the chemical industry

Operating principleThe dry disconnect coupling TX complies with the current

safety standards. Its innovative internal contour reduces

the flow resistance of the locking elements. Compared to

competitor products this reduces the necessary energy de-

mand with identical loading performance .

In addition, the superior ergonomics of the coupling ma-

kes handling easy and safe - even at high operating pressu-

re. Due to its modular design the dry disconnect coupling

TX requires little maintenance and is easy to repair since

the entire sealing unit can be removed and replaced within

just a few minutes.

TR seriesThe coupling for chemicals and special applications

Operating principleThe proven couplings of the TR series are utilized especially

in processes with dangerous media and special require-

ments. No matter if used with liquids, gases, slightly pasty

or higher viscous media - the TR holds everything.

Fast and intuitive coupling makes the handling easy. An

optimized fl ow contour provides higher fl ow rates than

comparable products . An almost residue-free coupling,

even in extreme conditions, protects operators, medium,

plant and environment.

To couple the hose unit is placed on the tank unit. With a

single twist, both parts can be connected and opened by

pulling the tank unit over cams in the hose unit. After a

turn by 10 ° both halves fi rmly connected.

Only then do the two shut-off valves shift into the tank

unit to give at the end of a total rotation by 120 ° the fl ow

channel completely free.

When uncoupling the process runs in reverse order. First

the fl ow channel becomes sealed media-tight. Only then

can the coupling halves be separated. Hence, an unwan-

ted media leakage is safely avoided.

Application examplesfor safe transportation of critical media

The TR in use in an explosion protection zone at a chemical

plant. Undesirable and hazardous media leakage is thus

avoided.

In use as a secure quick coupling in a multi-purpose facility

at a chemical plant. For process optimisation, flange sys-

tems were replaced by the TR series. The colour coding as

well as the mechanical coding used on one variant (green)

avoid connection mix-ups and therefore the unintentional

mixing of amines and non-amines.

In use in a distributor station for a filling line at a chemical

plant. Six hose lines each fitted with a hose unit can be

connected quickly and without media leakages to a selec-

tion of 10 pipe lines, each of which is equipped with a

tank unit.

In use for loading rail tank wagons with ethanol at a che-

mical plant. Simple, quick and leak-free coupling and de-

coupling of the discharge line is guaranteed. For added

safety, the TR dry disconnect coupling in this application

is supplemented by an RS breakaway coupling from the

ABVL series.

TD seriesThe special solution for steam applications

Functional principleTD dry disconnect couplings consist of two coupling halves

(tanks and hose unit), each fi tted with a cut-off valve.

Coupling is preformed via a rotary movement that pulls

the male coupling into the female coupling by means of

the helical grooves. After 10°, the hose unit and the tank

unit are connected. At up to 120°, the valve position shifts

relative to the valve seat – the full, unobstructed fl ow of

the medium is guaranteed.

When the coupling is opened (unscrewing the cam disc

mechanism), the shut-off valves in the coupling halves clo-

se before the halves themselves are separated, which pre-

vents the uncontrolled escape of hot steam.

Functional principle of Premium modelThe TKMM/TKMV premium model basically works accor-

ding to the same principle, and consists of two non-iden-

tical coupling halves.

The coupling offers all the advantages of the standard che-

mical variant (TKU). It is also optimized for use with viscous

and quick-hardening media.

› Flow cross-section optimised in terms of dead spots

› Suitable for quick-hardening, crystallising and low-vis-

cosity media

› Media with very high resistance requirements

› Coupling consists of a female and male parts

(with regard to the separation point)

TK seriesFull fl ow coupling with ball valve

Functional principle of basic modelThe TK series dry disconnect couplings consist of two iden-

tical (TKU) or two virtually identical tank and hose units

(TKMV and TKMM), which in the decoupled state are each

closed by a cut-off valve based on the ball valve principle.

The connection between the two coupling halves is reali-

sed by cleats. The connection is secured by turning the two

coupling halves 90° relative to each other. After coupling,

the two ball valves are opened by a lever on each side and

the full fl ow cross-section is released.

An integrated interlock function prevents

› accidental decoupling while the fl ow cross-section is open

› inadvertent opening of the fl ow cross-section while in the

decoupled state and the resultant undesirable media loss
