1.3AppliancedisposalThe�Suction�Unit�causes�heavy�metals�and�amalgam�dust�in�the�form�of�fillings�to�be�extrac-ted��In�order�to�reduce�the�contamination�of�wa-ste�water�from�dental�treatment�equipment�by�these�heavy�metal�particles�then�the�waste�wa-ter�from�such�units�must�be�treated�and�dis-posed�of�in�accordance�with�national�and�local�rules�and�regulations�

Those�parts�which�are�contaminated�with�amal-gam�such�as�coarse�filters,�filters�and�hoses�etc��should�be�disposed�of�according�to�local�and�national�regulations�

The�control�board,�electronics�(PCB)�and�com-ponents�are�electronic�waste�and�must�be�dis-posed�of�as�appropriate�

1.5CorrectUsageThe�Combination�Suction�Unit�VSA�300 S�is�de-signed�to�produce�a�vacuum�specially�con-structed�with�integrated�separation�and�amal-gam�removal��The�suction�performance�achieved�by�this�unit�is�fully�sufficient�for�one�treatment�station�The�VSA�300 S�is�designed�to�be�installed�in�or�added�to�all�treatment�stations�in�dental�surger-ies�and�clinics�where�amalgam�will�be�encoun-tered��The�VSA 300 S�fulfills�both�the�regulations�concerning�waste�water�in�the�Federal�republic�of�Germany�as�well�as�the�international�DIN�EN�ISO�11143�regulations�of�the�EU�The�separation�efficiency�exceeds�95%�at�a�rate�of�flow�of�ca��5 l/min�The�amalgam�sludge�is�collected�in�a�holding�tank�in�the�VSA�300 S��Depending�on�the�amount�accumulated�the�amalgam�collector�must�be�replaced�every�6-9�months�

1.6IncorrectUsageAny�use�of�this�appliance/these�appliances�above�and�beyond�that�laid�down�in�the�Installa-tion�and�Operating�Instructions�is�deemed�to�be�incorrect�usage��The�manufacturer�cannot�be�held�liable�for�any�damage�resulting�from�incor-rect�usage��The�operator�will�be�held�liable�and�bears�all�risks�

6.Functionaldescription6.1SystemfunctionThe�VSA 300�S�Combination�Suction�Unit�is�de-signed�for�the�continuous�production�of�vacuum�to�provide�suction�when�drilling�and�grinding�etc��with�subsequent�separation�of�the�suction�air�and�amalgam�separation�of�the�waste�water�of�the�treatment�unit��The�motor�of�the�VSA�300�S�is�switched�on�via�a�switch�in�the�hose�manifold�and�the�suction�unit�relay�in�the�treatment�unit�itself�The�mixture�of�air�with�the�water�destined�for�the�waste�water�is�accelerated�and�fed�tangentially�to�the�cyclone�separator�unit�through�the�inlet�connections��Special�guides�ensure�that�on�en-try�to�the�cyclone�separator�this�mixture�is�set�in�a�spiralling�motion��The�centrifugal�force�spins�the�drawn�up�particles�against�the�outer�wall��waste�water�The�air�is�continuously�separated�from�the�secretions�and�escapes�via�the�spin-ning�rotor�to�the�suction�unit�A�separately�driven�rotor�over�the�motor�pro-vides�the�second�stage�of�separation�and�en-sures�that�no�waste�water�or�blood�foam�is�al-lowed�to�enter�the�suction�unit�The�waste�water�which�is�supplied�to�the�sepa-ration�chamber�is�continuously�fed�to�the�centri-fuge,�where�the�amalgam�particles�are�removed�The�fluid�exuded�from�the�centrifuge�is�fed�to�the�waste�water�connections�and�pumped�into�the�central�drainage�system�Below�the�centrifuge�is�a�replaceable�amalgam�collector,�into�which�the�separated�amalgam�particles�are�transported�once�the�motor�is�switched�off��A�sensor�checks�the�level�of�sludge�in�the�amalgam�collector,�and�when�full�sends�a�signal�to�the�display�panel�that�the�amalgam�collector�is�due�for�replacement��De-pending�on�the�type�of�treatments�carried�out�and�the�amount�of�sludge�collected�in�the�ves-sel,�the�amalgam�collector�should�need�replac-ing�after�ca��6-9�months��A�secure�twist�cap�makes�the�replacement�and�closing�of�the�amal-gam�collector�easier�

A�pump,�which�is�connected�to�the�centrifuge,�maintains�a�constant�amount�of�fluid�in�the�amalgam�collector��Spillage�when�changing�the�amalgam�collector�is�thus�avoided�When�the�suction�elements�are�replaced�in�the�hose�manifold�and�waste�water�ceases�to�drain�from�the�spittoon�then,�after�a�short�delay,�the�centrifuge�is�switched�off��This�switching�off�serves�to�brake�the�motor,�so�that�the�normal�forces�of�gravity�on�the�rotating�water�will�trans-port�the�separated�particles�out�of�the�centrifuge�downwards�towards�the�amalgam�collector�

6.2SpittoonconnectionWhere�a�spittoon�is�fitted,�then�the�amalgam-contaminated�waste�water�must�also�be�treated�using�an�amalgam�separator��This�can�also�be�carried�out�by�the�VSA�300�S,�provided�that�between�the�spittoon�waste�water�pipe�and�VSA�300�S�inlet�connections�a�special�valve�has�been�installed��This�valve�must�be�fitted�with�a�contact�which�is�connected�parallel�to�the�circuit�contacts�of�the�hose�manifold�unit�and,�further-more,�must�fulfill�the�following�criteria:�the�valve�must�close�the�spittoon�waste�water�outlet�while�using�the�suction�elements�to�ensure�that�no�suction�noises�are�emitted�at�the�spittoon��This�valve�should�only�open�when�water�is�provided�through�the�spittoon�unit��An�additional�function�of�the�valve,�when�water�drains�from�the�spit-toon,�is�to�start�up�and�then�to�switch�off�the�VSA�300�S�so�that�the�water�arising�is�transpor-ted�to�the�centrifuge�and�the�amalgam�can�be�separated��The�valve�must�be�closed�when�no�current�is�present�

6.3LevelmeasurementsThe�level�of�sludge�present�in�the�collector�is�checked�every�time�that�the�mains�switch�is�operated�by�a�monitoring�sensor�When�the�unit�is�not�switched�off�from�the�mains,�then�this�check�is�repeated�automatically�ca��every�24�hours�Eine�magnetic�coil�sets�the�level�monitoring�pro-cess�off,�whereby�the�sensor�falls�due�to�gravity��A�light�barrier�is�used�to�calculate�the�level�and�at�95%�level�this�is�displayed�on�the�display�panel�When�the�amalgam�collector�is�95%�full�with�amalgam�sludge�then�on�the�display�panel�in�addition�to�the�green�LED�there�will�be�a�perma-nent�yellow�LED��Additionally�an�audible�signal�will�be�heard;�this�can�be�switched�off�by�pres-sing�the�service�button��The�appliance�is�again�on�stand-by�mode��The�yellow�LED�will�remain�lit�to�serve�as�a�reminder�Every�time�the�unit�is�switched�on�at�the�main�power�switch�the�level�sensoring�procedure�is�repeated�and�is�a�daily�reminder�that�the�amal-gam�collector�is�due�for�replacement�When�the�level�reaches�100%�then�the�green�LED�goes�off��The�permanent�yellow�LED�can�be�seen�together�with�a�blinking�orange�LED�and�the�audible�signal�can�be�heard��The�audib-le�signal�can�no�longer�be�switched�off�and�the�VSA�300�S�is�no�longer�functional�until�a�fresh�amalgam�collector�has�been�inserted��After�the�collector�has�been�replaced�then�the�green�LED�appears�and�the�unit�is�once�again�on�stand-by�and�ready�for�use�

6.4TechnicaldefectShould�the�VSA�300�S�not�be�ready�for�use�due�to�a�technical�defect�then�a�fault�indicator�will�be�activated��In�this�event�the�orange�coloured�LED�"FAULT"-display�blinks�on�the�display�module��Additionally,�there�is�an�audible�signal�which�can�be�switched�off�by�operating�the�switch�for�the�service�routines�The�display�"FAULT"�can�be�activated�when�the�motor�is�defect�via�a�low�pressure�switch�or�where�the�amalgam�collector�is�not�or�faultily�in�position�via�a�microswitch�in�the�amalgam�coll-ector�fitting�When�the�orange�LED�shows�"FAULT"�on�the�display�panel�then�it�is�possible,�by�pressing�the�service�key�(min��2�seconds),�to�start�up�the�VSA�300�S�manually�However,�if�the�fault�message�appears�repea-tedly�on�pressing�the�service�key,�or�it�is�not�possible�to�start�up�the�VSA�300�S�by�pressing�the�service�key,�then�a�technical�defect�is�present�

Wastewaterconnections�must�be�executed�according�to�local�and�national�building�regulations�

The�connection�between�plumbing�net-work�and�suction�unit�connection�should�be�kept�as�short�as�possible�and�laid�as�straight�as�can�be�without�bends�and�using�the�flexible�hose�supplied��This�will�prevent�the�transmission�of�vi-brations�to�the�plumbing�system�

15.Inspectioncheckafter5 years

According�to�the�current�Waste�Water�Regula-tions,�Appendix�50�(dental�treatment)�Section�2�2�5�the�VSA 300�S�must�undergo�a�thorough�inspection�to�ensure�trouble-free�operation�and�perfect�running�condition�every�5 years�(or�less)�•�Remove�the�collector��The�orange�LED�on�the�

display�panel�should�blink�and�there�should�be�an�audible�signal�

•�Place�the�test�collector�vessel�in�position�

•�Press�the�service�key�on�the�display�panel�(green�LED�"Stand-by"�lights�up)

•�Suck�up�approximately�1�l�water�

•�After�the�appliance�has�switched�itself�off,�re-move�the�collector�and�measure�the�amount�of�water�collected�using�a�measuring�beaker:��Contentsexceed70ml:appliance�is�in�good�working�order

•�Switch�off�the�main�power�switch�to�the�treat-ment�unit�

•�Take�the�empty�collector�from�the�box�and�un-screw�the�lid�

•�Only�original�Dürr�Dental�amalgam�collectors�may�be�used�in�combination�with�our�amal-gam�separator�

19.Maintenance•�Depending�on�the�amount�accumulating�the�

amalgam�collector�will�need�to�be�replaced�1-2�per�year�
