InvitationtoparticipateIfyouareconcernedabouttheexistenceofthewondersofthenaturalworld, defaultoutcomeofourclimate,habitabilityforhumans, thesurvival ofspecies, thelivesyourchildrenwillhaveandwhatwewillleavetofuturegenerations,DreamFoundation invitesyoutojoinChris increatingmovementforlikeminded soulswiththehearttoalterdestiny.

DesignIntentionThisisanintergenerationalprojectdesignedtolastaslongashumanbeingsinhabit thisworld.

Theprojectisdesignedtobecomepartofthefabricofsociety.Itisbothalearningstructureandself sustainingovertimeaschildrenpassontheirlearning,development andtrainingtotheirchildren.

Yetwhatwouldourchildrensayaboutourstewardshipwhentheygazeoutonthehavocwearereekingontheplanet,andthefuturetheystandtoinherit?

Weareselfabsorbed andnumb.Thereispriceless beautyandwonder,that,nichebyniche, speciesbyspecies isbeingforeverlost.Forthoseofusewhocare,wemustconfrontthatourconversations aboutconservation, energyuse,environment,climatechangeareineffective, andnotmakingarealdifferencetofutureoutcomes.

Thetragedyofbeingasleep“Weplug[ourmobilephone]intoawall.Veryfewofusthinkofthisasanunethicalaction,chargingourdevice.Butofcoursethatdeviceusestheelectricity.Thatelectricityhastocomefromsomeplace.Itdoesnotactuallycomefromthesocketinthewall.Itcomesfromaelectronicgrid, agridthatmoveselectricityalloverthispartoftheworld.Inmycountryaboutseventypercentofelectricitycomesfromburningcoal.…Noneofthisworksifwedon’tburnformerliving things.”

Therearemanyinitiatives intheworldthatarewholeheartedlydoing good.Everybitmatters,people needencouragementandsupport tocontinue theirefforts.

Howeverwhenlookedatinthetotally,comparedtothestateoftheworld,thevastmajorityoftheseinitiativesarenoteffectiveataplanetarylevelandwespiraloutofcontroltowardsdystopian futuresthatnobody wants.

LossofwetlandsisenormousvaluedestructionItisspeculatedthatupwardsofhalfoftheworld’swetlandshavedisappearedsince1900,despitetheirvaluetothehumanpopulation. Insomeplacesthepaceofwetlandsdestructionoccursatincrediblespeeds.InthePhilippines,80%ofcoastalwetlandshavebeendegraded,drainedordestroyedinthelast30years.Withoutwetlands,humancommunitieslosemanyofthevitalservicesthattheyprovide, includingwaterpurification,floodcontrol,andfoodsupply.

Wetlandsaretheworld’swaterfilters.Theytrappollutantssuchasphosphorus andheavymetalsintheirsoils,transformdissolvednitrogenintonitrogengas,andbreakdownsuspendedsolidstoneutralizeharmfulbacteria.NewYorkCityfoundthatitcouldsave$3-8billioninnewwastewatertreatmentplantsbypurchasingandpreserving$1.5billioninlandaround itsupstatereservoirs.

Wetlandshelptominimizeimpactsfromfloodingbyprovidinganareaforwatertomoveandslowdownduringstormevents.Whenbigstorms,likehurricanes,sweepthroughanarea,coastalwetlands,barrierislands,andcoastalvegetationcanhelptobufferthewindandwaves,reducingtheirpowerfordestruction.

Allthesetoxinsarepersistent,bioaccumulativetoxins(PBTs)thatcreateenvironmentalandhealthriskswhencomputersareincinerated,putinlandfills ormelteddown.Whencomputersmonitorsandotherelectronicsareburnedtheycreatecancer-producingdioxinswhicharereleasedintotheairwebreathe.Ifelectronicsarethrowninlandfills, thesetoxinsmayleachintogroundwaterandaffectlocalresources.”
