CAR PARKING DISABLED PARKING: A number of the parking spaces on

the Lye Field have been reserved for disabled drivers.

ADDITIONAL PARKING : this is available at the top end of Spout Lane in the field opposite Egypt Farm.

If approaching Seend from the Devizes direction, go straight on at the Seend Fork traffic lights, through Sells Green, and turn left just before the Three Magpies. Continue up Spout lane - caution at the canal bridge - until you see the Fete Parking sign. From here it is a short walk through The Lye to the Fete area. It would be appreciated if local residents driving to the Fete would park on the Spout Lane car park (accessible from the High St.), leaving the Lye Field for visitors unfamiliar with the village.

“The time has come,” the Walrus said “to talk of many things...” Had he lived in or close to Seend, one of the things would have been the Seend Summer Fete, the principal social event in the village. And there is certainly a lot to say about it. The Fete has two purposes: to bring together villagers and visitors for an afternoon of traditional English Summer Fun; and to raise much-needed funds for the care and maintenance of the Lye Field and Pavil-ion, both owned by the village. The ‘Summer Fun’ is what the Fete Committee strives to provide, helped and supported by a small army of volunteers and helpers, with-out whom we simply could not continue. This year, as in the past, we will provide the amusement, entertainment and refreshment that will ulti-mately lead to the attainment of contentment, as you wend your weary but happy way home. We’ve managed it in the past (despite the occa-sional drop of rain!), and I have no doubt we’ll manage it again this year – come rain or shine... The other important purpose is fund-raising to support the vital main-tenance work that keeps the Field and Pavilion in such good shape throughout the year. For example, just this year the following work has been done, supported by the record receipts from last year’s Fete:

Replacement d/glazed windows £5,500 (work in progress) Roof structure repairs £4,500 (completed June 2007) Replacement interior lighting £1,000 (completed June 2007)

Last year’s fete raised just over £6,500, thanks in part to the good weather, and the generosity of our programme advertisers and spon-sors. But the biggest and best contribution came, as always, from you! Your evident enjoyment of the festivities, your enthusiasm for the event, your wonderful good-humoured support for all the activities, this was the best reward of all. This is what makes our task so worthwhile. Of course we’re very grateful for your money, but make no mistake, your enjoyment has always been, and will continue to be, the principal purpose behind our Fete. Treasure Hunt Follow the clues and at each stall collect a letter. In the right order they’ll lead you to treasure. • Clue number one will help set your pace, the start of your trail is at the four-legged race. • The second clue is easy for girls and for boys, to find it go search on the stall with the toys. • Clue number three is at the stall of your dreams, look high and look low where a man sells ice creams. • Jump as high as you can on the wobbly floor, have bouncy fun where you’ll find clue number four. • For clue number five a steady hand and some luck, is just what you’ll need to fish for a duck. • Up, up and away higher and higher, check out clue six if you’re a budding young flyer. • For clue number seven you’ll need ‘green finger’ powers, this one is hidden on the stall with the flowers. • Ride on this engine and you won’t be late, at the end of the track you will find clue number eight. • Robin Hood would do well when it comes to clue nine, with a bow and an arrow you’re doing just fine. • Cuddly and cute look for a bear with no name, find clue number ten here to complete the game.
