International Research Projects

Worked in collaboration with a team of psychologists from three continents headed by

Prof. Vladimir Taksic Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Rijeka,

Croatia on an international research project related to the “Cross-Cultural Validation of

Emotional Intelligence Construct and an Emotional Competency Scale.”

Collaborated on a multinational research project involving researchers from 73

countries (a total of 22,610 participants in 93 samples were used in the study), to further

explore the concept and the psychometric properties of a psychological test for

measuring ‘Gelotophobia’ in different cultures and nationalities. Gelotophobia is a

relatively new personality construct related to Social Phobia. The project was headed by

Prof Willibald Ruch & Dr. Rene Proyer of the Department of Psychology, Personality

Assessment, University of Zurich, Switzerland.

Completed a research project “Translation, Adaptation & Validation of Situational

Judgment Tests (SJT) of Emotional Intelligence in Saudi Arabian Cultural Milieu”. The

paper was presented in a peer-reviewed international conference, and the research

paper for publication is under process.

At present working on an international collaborative research project “Predictive Power

of Personality, Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Certain Non-Cognitive Factors in

Explaining the Students’ Academic Success, Psychological Wellbeing, and Deviant

Work Behaviour during & beyond College Years: A Cross Cultural Exploration”.

Working on another research project titled “Towards a Taxonomy of Arabic Personality

Descriptors: An Indigenous Approach to Personality Assessment with reference to the

Saudi Arabian cultural milieu”.

Research Grants

Awarded two research grants by Research & Consultancy Institute (RCI) of Effat

University in 2012. The following interdisciplinary /collaborative research projects

were successfully completed, and the research findings were presented in the

international peer-reviewed conferences during the academic year 2012-13; one of the

project related research papers has been published in the Scopus Indexed journal.

The ownership, usage, and perception of Information and Communication

Technologies (ICTs) among Faculty, Students, and Staff of Effat University.

Evaluating the effects of SKY&P- a breathing and meditation intervention- on levels of

BP, oxygen saturation, PF, and Positive Affect and Negative Affect among the

Learning System, version 6.0 for using 'Blackboard’ for teaching, interacting with

students, assignments, testing, uploading grades, etc., 2003.

Completed training and using successfully SMART Board in teaching since 2003.

Fully conversant with utilization of the reliable internet resources and social media as

tools for accessing learning materials, as well as research and teaching new generation

of technology-engrossed students.

Community Services

Offered a weeklong (January 14-18, 2018) interactive and experientially designed course

on Emotional Intelligence to high-school students from various international and

national high schools of city of Jeddah, under the ‘STEAM Innovation Lab: Engaging

Future Innovators’ program initiated and organized by Effat University.

Co-presented a workshop on ‘Emotional Intelligence Measurement via Situational

Judgment Tests’ presented at QC, City University of New York (CUNY) USA, to a

varied audience comprising of clinical psychologists, business executives, school

teachers/counselors, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students in October, 2015.

Served on the English Screening & Academic Advising Committees of the 5th, 6th, 8th, &

9th Editions of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Women’s Contribution to

Development Award in the years 2009, 2010, 2012 & 2013; and also presented the

finalists before the international selection panel at IDB Headquarters, Jeddah, Saudi

Arabia in the years 2009, 2010, 2012.

Chaired the English Screening & Academic Advising Committee of the 6th Edition of

Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Women’s Contribution to Development Award for

2010; submitted a comprehensive written report to the Project Manager and presented

the finalists before the international selection panel at IDB Headquarters, Jeddah, Saudi

Arabia in 2010.

Supervised (Pro-Bono) a research project “Feasibility of Part time jobs in Saudi Arabia:

An exploratory study assessing the perception and attitude of prospective employers

and employees” involving students from Psychology and Marketing Management

Departments of Effat University for Saudi-Kadir, a Saudi startup company in 2013.

Served on the Effat Faculty Promotion Internal Evaluation Ad-hoc Committees for the

academic year 2016-2017; scrutinized and evaluated the applicants’ dossiers and

attended the KFUPM & Effat University evaluators’ joint promotion decision-making

meetings; and assisted in writing and reviewing the final reports on the promotion

cycle/process submitted to the KFUPM.

Internal evaluator of the research grants applications/ research proposals for the

Research & Consultancy Institute (RCI) at Effat University. I have evaluated a number

of grant applications and reviewed research proposals over the past several years.

As a member of Scientific Council, I have been involved in reviewing several Masters’

Theses of students from the Graduate Programs at Effat University through all these

years.

Reviewed the student research proposals submitted for the Annual Undergraduate

Research Events at Effat University since 2010.

Reviewed a number of research papers submitted by students/graduates for the

publication in the forthcoming Effat Undergraduate Research Journal.

Conference “The Cultural Impact of Language and Translation (CILT)” held at Effat

University on November 14, 2012.

Chair, Registration Committee of the 2nd English & Translation International

Organized guest lecturers by various experts and field trips for the students enrolled in

my different courses.

Offered meditation and deep breathing sessions to the faculty & staff of Effat

University.

Volunteered to supervise university students on several field trips organized by

Deanship of Student Affairs (DSA) at Effat University.

Representing Effat University, volunteered in Indian Youth Welfare Association’s

Higher Education Fair aimed to Career Counsel High School graduates held at Indian

Consulate, Jeddah in March 2013 & March 2014.

Presented model classes/lectures to hundreds of visiting high school students during

University Open Days in Fall 2016 and Fall 2017. I have been presenting model classes to

visiting high-school students at Effat University continually for the past several years.

Mentored a number of participating students within and outside of the psychology

department during the Undergraduate Research Forum of 2017.

Interviewed prospective student applicants for undergraduate scholarships at Effat

University (volunteered to do interviews sometimes after hours and on weekends, too).

Interviewed applicants of ‘Effat Scholarships study abroad for Masters & PhD degrees’

in 2016.

Presented a lecture “Emotional Intelligence: Does it Really Matter? Yes, it does! In School

and at Workplace, too” to the students, faculty and staff of Effat University on

November 29, 2017, organized by the Public Services Division of Effat Library &

Cultural Museum.
