Teaching and Research Philosophy
Teaching and research are my lifetime passions and I derive motivation from my students’
achievement not only in their academic and professional careers but also as a successful human
being. I am in teaching profession since 2006 and to me teaching is not just an instructional process
of delivering content. It is the transformation in human behaviors caused by teacher as role model.
A teacher is not merely disseminating knowledge; rather he is giving and sharing himself for the
human good. After a semester long interaction, my students are able to understand catchy jargons
with necessary theoretical depth, know their local context and able to solve problems at the
workplace. I am not convinced by the notion of nourishing the shiny students only, the
backbenchers are my favorite audience and I keep them engaged by wondering frequently at the
length and breadth of the class. Knowing my students in person is possible by my habit of taking
tea breaks in students’ café rather than faculty rooms. This is further complemented by responding
online on their queries at university portal, email, and social media.
I have started working in the area of human resource development exploring the societal
impact of environmental degradation since my MBA project. The project was on Human Resource
Training Needs Assessment of Non-Governmental Organizations at Lahore, Pakistan. The same
lines have been followed in a greater depth in MS and PhD Dissertations, where the coping
capacities of human resources and communities were assessed for effective disaster management
(DM) in the wake of Super-floods 2010. I am a staunch believer in the indigenization of research;
considering the context as important as the content itself. My personal definition of the novelty of
an idea always completes with significant contribution to the problems that we are facing in our
societal contexts. Although, I am not a religious scholar but I see religion as a potential source for
understanding the missing links in modern thought. Moreover, envisioning my future research
endeavors; I am looking in to the cross disciplinary exploration of HRD and OB with
environmental degradation and climate change in the critical human and political geographies.
