’The Healthy Eating Pyramid’:

Students of grade II participated in an interesting activity ’The Healthy Eating

Pyramid’. This activity allowed students to develop an understanding of the

food groups as outlined in the food pyramid and how to use the pyramid as a

guide in maintaining good health and nutrition. With this activity, students

were able to–identify what they can do to keep their compulsory healthy, list

the food groups within the food pyramid, provide examples of each food group,

analyse their dietary intake by separating foods eaten into the proper food

groups and learn about the number of servings per meal of each type of food

group and also to follow a balanced diet.

Healthy Week Campaign: In order to intrigue the students to the umpteen benefits of a healthy living, Grade 1 of DPS-Modern

Indian School organized a healthy week campaign. Children

were given a timetable to be followed for their breakfast to

school. Both parents and children were thrilled and

participated enthusiastically. More than 90% of the students

brought the same

food assigned for

that particular

day. This special week shone a spotlight on the effort to

improve the health and wellness of our students and the link

between nutrition, physical activity, and learning, because

healthy children are better prepared to learn! To keep their

activity levels high, teachers also made use of charts models

and an activity sheet where the children colored food that our body needs in different proportions .

Traffic Rules: Activities play an important role in learning and

provide the learner an invaluable practical

experience.

To emphasize on traffic rules there was an activity

conducted in Grade-I. The objective of the activity

was to explain appropriate times to cross a street,

identify significant road signs and signal and

demonstrate road safety techniques. Some visual aids

showing common road signs like stop sign, traffic

signal, zebra crossing and “No U Turn” signs were

placed in the Grade I corridor. Children were asked to

take the vehicles to drive and few children acted as

pedestrians keeping the safety rules in mind. Children enjoyed the activity and it gave the opportunity

for recap and assessment of the lesson. This activity not only helped in strengthening the concepts, but

also enabled the sensory development, gross motor skills, self- esteem, self- expression and problem

solving skills.
