DP Basic / Induction Course

A minimum of 180 days

watchkeeping experience

on class 2/3 vessels

DP Certificate issued

Registering

To obtain login details for the DP online application system:

Navigating to the correct page

Click on the Dynamic

Positioning tab. This will bring a

set of headers up on the page.

Select the header directly

underneath the DP header:

‘Login/Apply’

Please complete the online

application BEFORE you

send your logbook into the

office.

Logbooks which are

submitted by post only will

be returned.

Registering

To obtain login details for the DP online application system:

Navigating to the correct page

When you have reached

‘Login/Apply’, you will have

three different options for the

application.

If you have never bought

books from The Nautical

Institute, or been a member

or applied for a DP certificate

you will need to click here to

register onto the system.

If you have a Limited certificate and you

know your login details please click here. If

you already hold a Limited certificate but do

not know your login details please contact

the DP Department to gain access to your

user account.

If you are a member of The Nautical

Institute or have ever bought books or had a

previous application you will also have login

details. If you do not know your User ID

please contact The DP Department.

The DP Department take calls on Tuesdays

or Thursdays between 9am and 5pm (GMT)

This link can only be used by

companies that already have an

account with the Nautical Institute.

UPGRADE If you already hold a

Limited certificate, do

not register with The

Nautical Institute

again. This can delay

your application.

Creating a new account

To obtain login details for the DP online application system If you have never bought books from The Nautical Institute, or

been a member or applied for a DP certificate.

Entering your personal details as required

If you would like your documents

sent to your home address this

section should be left blank.

If you would like your logbook to be

sent to a different address e.g. your

company please enter the address

at the bottom of the page as the

return address for documents.

The login details will be sent

to the email address that is

given on this page.

Please check that you have

entered this correctly.

Once you click ‘Next’ your details will be

added to the system and an email will be

sent to you containing your username and

password. You can then use these details

and web link in the email to log into the

online application and continue with your

application.

If you do not receive the email, please check

in your junk/spam folder. If you are still

unable to see this email, please contact the

DP Department who will be able to give you

this information. Please DO NOT register

again as this will create duplicate accounts.

Logging In

On the homepage click

on the login button at

the top of the screen.

membership number and

password and click login.

Logging In

To log into the DP online application system if you have a Limited certificate and you know your login details:

Navigating to the Dynamic Positioning page

After you have logged in you will be

directed back to the homepage you

can then choose where on the

website you would like to go. At the

top of the screen you will see a

button saying ‘Logout’. This means

that you are logged into your

account.

Click on the Dynamic

Positioning tab above the

main picture. This will

take you to the DP area

of the website.

Applying

To apply for your Dynamic Positioning certificate:

Navigating to the Dynamic Positioning application

Click on Login/Apply and

you will be sent to this

page.

Please choose between

the two options on the

screen. If you are

upgrading your

certificate you will need

to have the certificate

number and the issue

date to hand.

Applying

To apply for your Dynamic Positioning certificate:

Entering your personal details as required

You will be directed to your

personal details page. Please

ensure that these details are all

correct. If you were registered on our

system from your Limited certificate

or buying books please check to

make sure that all details are up to

date and fill in any missing fields e.g.

email address and contact phone

number.

When all details have been checked

press the Next button at the bottom

of the screen.

This will take you through to the

beginning of the application.

Applying

To apply for your Dynamic Positioning certificate:

Entering your personal details as required

If this is your first application for a

DP certificate select ‘No’ and press

‘Next’.

If you already hold a Limited

certificate please enter the

certificate number and the date that

it was issued before clicking ‘Yes’.

This will then bring all the previous

course and seatime information

through to your online application

and you will not have to re-enter all

of the information.

Applying

To apply for your Dynamic Positioning certificate:

Entering your Basic course information

Please select the training

centre where you completed

your Basic course from the

drop down list. Then select

the date ensuring that it is in

the format dd/mm/yyyy. The

course entry in your logbook

must be signed and stamped

by the training institute.

If you already hold a

Limited certificate

this information will

be greyed out and

you will not be able

to edit it. Please

click on the ‘Next’

button.

UPGRADE

IMPORTANT NOTE

If your course is more that 5 years (60

months) old The Nautical Institute will

be unable to accept it as part of the

scheme requirements.

Please do not amend the date in order

to go through to the next page as this

date will be checked and if it is found

to be over five years old your logbook

will be returned unprocessed to you.

Applying

To apply for your Dynamic Positioning certificate:

Entering your Familiarisation seatime

You can enter the full IMO number or the

vessel name to search for the vessel. Please

click on the next to the box and a pop-up

box will appear. Select the correct vessel

from the available list.

If the vessel that you completed DP seatime on does not appear on the list please contact [email protected] with a copy of the classification certificate so that it can be checked and added to our system. If the vessel is not officially classified the

time on the vessel cannot be used for the

familiarisation seatime.

UPGRADE If you already hold a

Limited certificate

this information will

be greyed out and

you will not be able

to edit it. Please

click on the Next

button.

When adding the dates when

you joined and left the vessel

please either select them from

the calendar or enter these

dates in the format dd/mm/yyyy.

If the year is not entered fully

you will be unable to move to

the next page of the application.

Applying

To apply for your Dynamic Positioning certificate:

Entering your Familiarisation information

You must state that you have the seatime

confirmation letters from your company before

you move to the next page.

These need to be on letter-headed paper, signed by the superintendent, marine manager, operations manager or fleet/crew manager and state that you worked onboard as a DPO performing DP duties. Please see our New Regulations section for more information. http://www.nautinst.org/en/dynamic-positioning/dp-scheme-additional-requirements.cfm If this letter has not been obtained you need to

contact your company for this before

completing your online application. If you

confirm that you have this letter but it is not

enclosed in your application your documents

will be put on hold until the requirement is met

or return you application and documents to you

without processing. In this case, you will have

to re-apply online and re-pay for the courier

service.

After adding the dates, you need to

confirm that the familiarisation

logbook entry is signed and

stamped. You will need to scroll

along the box horizontally to the right

to finish entering in the relevant data.

The number of days and

familiarisation hours will be

automatically calculated by the

system.

When the information has been

added click on the at the end of

the line.

When the entry has been saved the

line will go grey and a new line will

appear underneath for extra entries.

To edit any previous entries click

Applying

To apply for your Dynamic Positioning certificate:

Entering your Advanced course details

UPGRADE If you already hold a

Limited certificate you

will still need to add

these dates into the

system before moving

to the next page. On this page you need to enter all of the

familiarisation dates that have been

signed off in Section C of your logbook.

Please note that the date must be

written in the format dd/mm/yyyy. You

must check the box next to each

completed entry to confirm that the task

in the logbook is signed.

All starred items must be signed off in

your logbook before a DP certificate can

be issued.

When all mandatory entries have been

completed press Next to go to the next

page

You can enter the full IMO number or the

vessel name to search for the vessel.

To edit any entry, please use the Edit

button. Please make sure that the

entry is saved before moving on.

Fill out this column ONLY if you

completed a seatime reduction

course at one of the approved

training centres.

If this column is ticked for all

entries, a certificate cannot be

issued.

The dates that you have

added are not in the correct

The dates you have added

overlap with another voyage

You have not confirmed that

the entry in your logbook has

been signed and stamped

UPGRADE If you already hold a

Limited certificate you

will need to add the

extra dates which you

are using to upgrade

your certificate

To apply for your Dynamic Positioning certificate:

Entering your Section F details

Please enter the Section F

information from your logbook.

The Section F needs to be

signed and stamped by the

Master of the vessel or a

certified DPO onboard who is

aware of your capabilities. You

as the operator should also

have signed this page.

UPGRADE You need to add the

dates of the new

Section F form. This

must have been

signed after the 60

days on DP2 has

been completed

The date added on the

Section F needs to be

after the required

amount of seatime has

been completed

Selecting the IMO number or the

vessel name will automatically

update the other field.

The vessel added here needs to

be the last vessel that seatime

was completed on.

When paying for the courier

please ensure that you check the

following:

Address Matching – address

entered on website must

match records held with the

credit card company.

Postcode/ZIP Matching –

same as with the credit card

company.

Card Verification – usually 3-

digit security code.

Common problems

Use of a Non-Standard Keyboard:

as this type of keyboard is common

outside the UK and in particular

Europe & South America, many

non-UK users will encounter

problems when using such a

keyboard. In order to remedy the

problem please ensure that

characters and symbols entered

match with a standard keyboard.

Verification Process put in place by

the individuals Bank: this process is

outside the control of the Nautical

Institute as this has been set up by

the user’s bank to reduce the risk

of fraud. Please contact the bank.

Repeated attempts at processing:

the EPDQ system may lock-out the

individual if excessive attempts

have been made at processing

card payments. The individual can

try a different computer to attempt

processing.

You will receive two emails from

The Nautical Institute.

One will confirm your payment and

the other will contain a link to the

PDF document you need to

print, sign and send in with your

application.

Please check in the junk/spam

folder of your emails for this

message.

The NI will not able to process

your documents if the signed

hard copy of the PDF is not sent

along with your logbook. Please

note that all pages need to be

sent in with the application.

your payment has been

unsuccessful, this may have been

for a number of reasons. See

Common problems
