IntroductionThe Xmic (pronounced ex-mike) is an advanced, electronic ground microphonedesigned to amplify the noisegenerated by water escapingfrom buried supply pipesunder pressure. Identifying theposition of the loudest leaknoise indicates the position ofthe actual leak itself.

The Xmic system comprises ofa lightweight portable amplifier module complete withbattery charger, a pair of aviation quality headphonesand an acoustically shielded ground microphone foot. Asan optional extra, a hand held listening probe isavailable. This comes with a tripod foot and two proberods for sounding in soft ground.

Xmic is an advanced yet easily used GroundMicrophone System. The latest acoustic andamplification technology provides excellent soundquality, whilst a range of features help effective andaccurate pinpointing on site.

Minimum (noise) Level Profiling (MLP). The easy-to-useadvanced features of the Xmic enable the operator topinpoint leaks faster and with more confidence than everbefore. In MLP mode (when sampling) the Xmic recordsthe lowest level in the last three seconds (thebackground leak noise), and builds a visual graph ofthese levels.
