How can social media help you find a job?
❖ Advertise your personal brand❖ Show off your skills, values & professionalism. Be known
as a resource
❖ Establish credibility❖ Tweet, blog, comment about the things you know
❖ And always keep on growing your network❖ Quality over quantity, when you have a job maintain your
network
❖ Find a reference from an old or a current employee

❖ Identify 3-5product brands that you clearly like❖ -> Write them down (Example: Apple, Coca-Cola,
Samsung, Nike) ❖ -> Write specific attributes of the brand you like❖ Identify the most common themes across all
brands you selected

❖ In a group talk about what company you'd like to work for and then select a few together to research them

So what do I do now?❖ Twitter
❖ Use search and hashtags to find jobs, tweet often and follow interesting companies/job posting accounts, retweet interesting content from these companies
❖ Facebook❖ Like companies you want a job at and interact with them, add
professional skills, stay updated
❖ LinkedIn❖ Connect and network, check the jobs board, ask for endorsements
and recommendations, share & like articles, write posts, make sure you list everything so you have a complete and robust profile

Tips from employers❖ At the moment LinkedIn is most used but
employers, “footprint” on some can be useful especially for portfolios
❖ Act smart on social media, your opinions and attitude are visible, list your skills honestly
❖ The entirety is what matters and social media is a part of that
❖ Know-how and enthusiasm are very important criteria
