WF CENTRAL Celebrates First Anniversary
With ‘A Year of Play’
Highlights the completion of WF CENTRAL
as a leading lifestyle destination through the power of play
Beijing, XX May, 2019 – WF CENTRAL, Hongkong Land’s leading premium lifestyle retail
destination in Beijing, is marking its first anniversary by launching a ‘A Year of Play’ - a
celebratory campaign inviting visitors to explore their playful side with fun-filled recognition of the
Wangfujing area’s prestigious historical past.
Since its official launch in May 2018, WF CENTRAL has delighted visitors with its unparalleled
range of Luxury, Fashion, World-class Gastronomy, Lifestyle & Wellness, and Art & Culture
experiences. The opening of the Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing, Beijing in March this year, with its
accommodation of contemporary residential style, luxury amenities and stylish restaurants and bars,
including recognition for MO Bar as one of Forbes’ 10 best new summer rooftop bars, saw the
completion and final realisation of WF CENTRAL’s overall proposition as premium retail and
lifestyle destination.
To celebrate the anniversary, visitors to WF CENTRAL will be enthralled by a series of highly
immersive and engaging games and activities, giving them the opportunity to explore fun aspects of
traditional Chinese culture with an enticing modern twist.
“‘A Year of Play’ aims to engage visitors by exploring ‘play’ and ‘playfulness’ through historically-
themed games presented in a contemporary way,” explained Mr Raymond Chow, Chairman of
Wangfu Central Real Estate Development Company Limited and Executive Director of Hongkong
Land. “‘A Year of Play’ perfectly complements and celebrates WF CENTRAL’s role as a
destination inspiring ongoing community engagement through a considered curation of art, cultural
creativity and experiential lifestyle.”
The anniversary programme of exciting activities offers a playful reminder of the historic cultural
significance of the Wangfujing district and kicks-off with the introduction of two engaging games
areas located at WF CENTRAL’s Atrium and The Bridge, featuring a total of eight traditional
games reinterpreted in a contemporary style, bringing aspects of Chinese culture to life in a way
that is intuitive to today’s visitors.
The games areas installations are inspired by ‘Tangram’ a dissection puzzle consisting of seven flat
shapes, called ‘tans’, which are put together to form shapes. It is reputed to have been invented in
China during the Song Dynasty.
The Bridge features five games including ‘Cuju’, an ancient Chinese football game invented in the
Han Dynasty; ‘Pitch-pot’, ‘Blocks’ and an immersive Kaleidoscope feature. The Atrium area

features a Maze and giant ‘Seesaw’, ‘Poetry and Puzzle’ a dynamic new version of the traditional
Chinese lantern puzzle and Chinese golf.
The anniversary celebrations will also see WF CENTRAL host, ‘Rhythm of Nature’, a spectacular
artistic curation of two distinct yet co-existing art installations. The exhibition, which debuts in
mainland China for the first time, runs from 29th May to 31th August and explores the imaginative
interplay of nature and art through two installations, ‘Sun Cycle’, a dynamic outdoor ‘Skynet’, the
spectacular creation of US artist Patrick Shearn and his team at Poetic Kinetics; and ‘Meadow’, a
kinetic ‘floral’ display created by Dutch design collective Studio Drift.
To further celebrate the anniversary, all new BESPOKE members registering during the promotion
period, which runs from 29th May to 30th June, will receive 529 BESPOKE points and a special e-
voucher package, offering rewards across a wide range of WF CENTRAL’s fashion, luxury
lifestyle and F&B offerings. Over 40 brands, including many major luxury brands, will participate
in anniversary promotions, with BESPOKE members receiving double points with any purchases
and additional opportunities to redeem cash voucher and gifts.
