1. Discussion on the grave

• Sheol (Old Testament: Is. 14; Job 26:5-6)

• Hades (New Testament: Luke 16)

3. The rich man who died (Luke 16:14-31)

• His senses were working (he felt, he saw, he heard, he had a voice, he was spo-ken to and understood)

• The soul had all of the characteristics of the body

• One of the torments is heightened desires that are unable to be fulfilled

• The soul does not have the body but has the same symptoms of having a body

• His eternal destiny is fixed

4. A place called Gehenna

• It is eternal• It is a place of justice• It is a place of torment• It is a place of abandonment• It is a place of unanswered prayer• It is a place of memory

5. The Good News about death

• Christ died once for all (Hebrews 9:28)

• Death is a gift for those who love Him (John 3:16; I Cor. 15:54-55)
