families were assisted by the tree pro-ject and that three oversized collection bags of blankets were sent to charita-ble organizations as part of the high school seniors service project. Your generosity and support of these pro-jects speak of the kindness of our school community in caring for others. As we approach the winter holi-days, it seems that the activity level increases, also. The Santa Shop will be open the week of December 14-18 and our Christmas classroom celebrations will take place Tuesday, December 22, from 2:15-3:15PM. School will resume January 4, 2010. The faculty and staff of Crest-wood Intermediate School wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May all of you enjoy the holiday break and spend time with family and friends. See you next year!!

Please be sure your child comes to school dressed appropriately for winter weather and cold temperatures as students often go outside for recess,
even if it is for ten minutes or so. They NEED to wear outerwear that is protective and will keep them warm and dry – hats, gloves, snowpants & boots. Thank you.
Dear Parents: The holidays are definitely upon us especially after the wonderful Christ-mas program presented by our Grade 3 students and the 5th Grade choir the evening of December 2. The two per-formances were attended by standing room only audiences and were a de-lightful presentation of good cheer, up-lifting spirit and the most enjoyable Christmas music. Many thanks are ex-tended to Mrs. Jarvi and the classroom teachers for their hard work. Our book fair was a great success and parent-teacher conferences were well attended. Good news and good reading was alive and well in the Inter-mediate building during those two eve-nings. We would like to thanks all those that participated in our giving tree pro-ject, the blanket collection project and the soldiers' gift boxes sent to the troops is Afghanistan. Our students were thrilled that 17 boxes were sent for the military troops, more than 25

Students in Mrs. Shahan’s science classes are studying energy. Demonstrations were done to illustrate the different forms of energy, such as light, sound, electrical, chemical, mechanical, and thermal. Students in the picture are observing a radiometer spinning under an overhead projector light to demonstrate that light is energy.
BAND CONCERT
The 5th graders have been hard at work learning to play
their instruments. On January 26th, they will
give their FIRST performance, along with the 6th grade band at Crestwood Middle School at 7:00 PM.
The final tally is in and the PTO made $10,836.26 on the Zap-a-Snack and Root Candles fall
fund raiser. Also, we have the winner’s list! Quinn Matter was the top seller
in the 3rd Grade and won $100 and a 5-lb bar of chocolate. The top 5th
Grade seller was Morgan Baird—she also wins $100 and a 5-lb bar of choco-
late. Ashley Marotta was the top 4th Grade and overall seller and she wins a
Netbook portable computer and a 5-lb bar of chocolate. Way to go to every-
one who participated in our very successful fund raiser and especially to these three sellers!
The PTO would also like to thank everyone who purchased spirit wear—we made $1,354.00
to help fund our educational and fun activities for this year.

begin in January for the fifth grade

is time to start helping the fifth

similar lunch bunch group for the
fifth grade boys a little later in the
year.
May all of you have a most blessed

COUNSELOR’S
CONNECTION As I write this I am sitting in my
office surrounded by a mountain of
Christmas gifts. The response to
the “Giving Tree” project
has been amazing. I am
waiting for a few more of
the gifts to be returned,
and then I will distribute
them to the families in plenty of
time for Christmas. I am always
humbled by the generosity of our
parents and staff. I truly
appreciate the kind generosity
represented in these gifts.
