[email protected] UCLA Theater Internship Program is open to enrolled students from theDepartmentofTheater.FreshmanandSophomores in theTheaterMajororMinorarepermittedtotakethisinternship.This course provides students with an opportunity to gain field experience intheater,film,televisionandentertainmentorganizations.Eachstudent’sinternshipis a variable-time assignment in the profession. Examples of appropriateorganizationsareTheActors’Gang,CenterTheaterGroup,ComedyCentral,CreativeArtists Agency, DreamWorks, Geffen Playhouse, L.A. Theatre Works, MTV,Nickelodeon,andSonyPicturesEntertainment.Studentsmust select anorganization andmakedirect contactwith the internshipcoordinatorattheorganizationtosecureaninternship.PleasenotethattheTheaterDepartmentstaffandinternshipcoordinatordonotprovideguidanceinselectinganinternship.StudentsreceiveinternshipcreditbyenrollinginTheater95.Theater95isofferedFall,WinterandSpringquartersaswellasintheSummerSession.Enrollmentmustbe completed by the end of the second week of the quarter in which internshipactivityoccurs. DeterminingthenumberofunitsCreditisassignedbasedonthenumberofhoursworkedeachweekduringthe10-weekinternshiporthetotalnumberofhoursworked.Internshipsmaybetakenand/orrepeatedforamaximumtotalofeight(8)units:
• 6hoursperweek(60hourstotal):2units• 12hoursperweek(120hourstotal):4units• 18hoursperweek(180hourstotal):6units• 24hoursperweek(240hourstotal):8units

3. Atwo-pagetypedessaydetailingwhatthestudenthopestogainfromthe
internshipexperience.Answerthefollowingquestionsintheessay:
o Whatdoyouhopetolearnfromthisinternship?Whatdoyouwanttolearnaboutthecompanyorthislineofwork?Inwhatwayswouldyouliketogrowpersonallyandprofessionallyfromthisexperience?
o Whatmeaningfulworkwillyoubeperformingatyourinternship?Whatareyourgoalsandexpectations?
o Giveashortsitedescription.Whatdoesthiscompanydo?
4. Anacceptanceletter(oncompanyletterhead)fromthesponsoringorganizationthatstatesthefollowing:
o Lengthoftheinternship.InternshipdatesmustcoincidewithFall,Winter,SpringorSummerquarters.Enrollinthequarterinwhichtheinternshipends.
o Descriptionofinternshipactivities.o Thespecificareaordepartmentwithintheorganizationwherethe
studentwillwork.o Theweeklyortotalhours.o Thenameofthesitesupervisor.
5. SignedReleaseofLiabilityandIndemnificationAgreement6. SignedWorker’sCompensationAgreement
Theater95dutiesDuringtheInternshipOncetheinternshiphasbegun,thestudentsmustsubmita1-2paragraphtypedweeklyjournalsummarizingtheinternshipactivities.Thejournalsshouldbesubmittedbeginningthefirstweekoftheinternship,regardlessofwhenthequarterbegins.Thesejournalsshouldbeemailedtoyourinternshipadvisor.Thisissubjecttochange.Pleasecontacttheinternshipcoordinator,ShannonMaguire,[email protected]’scontactinformationatthestartofyourinternship.JournalentriesshouldbesubmittedbyWednesdayofeachweekforthepreviousweek’sactivity.Youwillreceiveaconfirmationemailafteryousubmityourfirstjournal.AttheConclusionoftheInternshipWhentheinternshipiscompleted,submita3-5pagetypedessaydescribingtheinternshipexperienceandwhatknowledgeorinsightwasgained.Thisessaymustbeturnedinby5:00pmontheThursdayof10thweek.ThedeadlineforSummerSessionsistheThursdayof6thweek.GradingStructure60% WeeklyJournals40% FinalEssay
