RECYCLE OLD NEWSPAPERS:Even if you change your bin bagtwice a day, a mysterious layer ofdirt still collects at the bottom.Use old newspapers to layer thebottom; they soak liquids and stopthe lingering stink .

USE BAKING SODA: Sprinklesome baking powder at the bot-

tom of your bin, be-fore you line it upwith a fresh trashbag.

GOT A CAT? We arenot kidding. Sprinkling

cat poopat the base of

the bin is a goodway to get rid of

rancid smells, as itabsorbs them (in

a flash). Butdon’t go hunt-

ing for cat poo out-doors during the

lockdown.

COFFEE BEANSAND LEMONSLICES: Placing

a small bowl ofcoffee beans, or

slices of lemon, at

the bottom of your binhelps, as both are effective odour neutralisers.

SEGREGATE YOURWASTE: Keep separatedustbins for dry, wet andtoxic waste. Get rid of wetwaste on a daily basis.

VINEGAR: Boil a full ket-tle of water, pour into thebin, add a dash of vinegar, close the lid and leave itfor 30 minutes. The vine-gar-infused steam helpsin removing the stubborndirt. Then pour out andwipe dry.

DON’T EXPOSE YOURBIN TO HEAT: Heat pro-motes the fermentationof waste, thereby spread-ing bacteria. Avoid keeping your bin nearthe gas.

Emptying your trash binevery day is not aguarantee that it won’tstink. Here are some easyways to get rid of thoseodours...
