THE HOWL IS BACK!
Lights...Camera…TC…ACTION! (Jenny Chongsujipunt)
Imagine yourself [being] in the
midst of cameras! You are standing
beside the main actor and actress.
Some students were are lucky
enough to talk with them! Not every-
one can have this chance in his or
her hands in real life. So, when Mr. A
announced that a Thai drama called
CUBIC was coming to TCIS to film
some parts of the drama here it
gained quite a big interest from the
High School students. The list to join
the show quickly filled up with no
slots left.
On Sunday September 15, 2013,
the big day arrived. Even though we
had to be at school before seven-
thirty, no one complained. Today
would surely be another special day
in our memories. At first, we were
told to wear our school uniforms but it
turned out that they actually prepared
their uniforms for us. White long-
sleeved t-shirts, green-blue Scott
skirts, neckties, long black socks, and
gray sweaters for girls. White long-
sleeved t-shirts, green-blue neckties
and gray sweaters for boys.
It was kind of fresh and weird at
the same time [for us] to wear that
uniform in TCIS. But still, everyone
was excited and we all took so
many pictures together. Fun photo
shooting time for all of us!
After all the picture taking we had
to get into the scenes. The main
actors such as Min Chalida, Bomb
Tanin, Nott Vorarit all came out and
acted in this scene together. The
very first scene took place on the
basketball court beside the soccer
field.
Every one of us was divided to
act in different school areas. Some
of us were walking in the hallway,
some were playing soccer and Fris-
bee, some were chatting with
friends, and some were walking on
the field. Naturally, we just had to
act as one of the students here,
which was kind of easy for all of us
to accomplish. (Con’t. page 4)
HAPPY HAUNTING! (Wendy Lee) As long as I can remember, Hallow-
een has been one of my favorite cele-
brations. Everyone gets to dress up as
whatever they want to be, whether it’s a
sweet angel, a scary witch, or Spider-
man (I think you all know who I am
referring to here). Little kids get candy
from adults, and older kids like you and
I get an excuse to eat more chocolate
than usual. So, what’s not to like about
Halloween?
It is true that the spirit of Halloween isn’t
as lively in Asia as it is in America and
around Europe, but here at TCIS we
have a whole lot of exciting events
scheduled for this spooky celebration!
There’s an annual Halloween Carnival,
which will be packed with fun booths
and delicious snacks made by students
along with the jail booth from the High
School Student Council (HINT: this is a
good chance to lock up that very special
person, I know you’ve all got a person
you’d like to see behind the bar the
bars). There will also be a haunted hall
brought to you by the Juniors, so be
sure to head over to the second floor
gym to get a frightening Halloween
scare! I know you’re all excited, but to
top it all off, here’s an adorable ghost
out on his first haunting!

Friendly Faces... My name is Mr. Patrick, and I am really excited to be at TCIS to instruct mathematics in the middle
school. I was born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Colorado Springs is based in the
shadow of a large mountain and is an excellent place to be if you like the outdoors. I left Colorado
Springs to get my first degree in Sociology, which is the study of different people and their back-
grounds. Then I came back to Colorado Springs for my Masters Degree in the Arts of Teaching at
Colorado College. After I completed this degree I taught 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade mathe-
matics in Colorado. I then moved to Greece where I taught at the American Community Schools of
Athens. Some things that I really love about teaching are math, math vocabulary, and discussions on
how to be a responsible citizen. My hobbies include swimming, biking, running, and reading history
books. I like to be active wherever I live, and right now I am training for the Bangkok Marathon. I
am looking forward to a great school year at TCIS! I have been impressed by the knowledge of the
staff here at TCIS, and by the insight and inquisitiveness of the students.
(Con’t. page 7)
For the rest of until around five
we continuously filmed in the
hallway, field, and canteen. There
were so many scenes that
needed to be filmed and we had
to be in most of them. Even
though it was tiring to stay at
school for around ten hours there
were still moments to be enjoyed.
We got to take photos with the
actors and the production crew,
but most important of all we got a
chance to learn about the pro-
duction of TV dramas. An experi-
ence like this was indeed an
unforgettable one!

S.A.T. TIPS (Michelle Chua)
Page 4
Volume 1, Issue 1
“At first, we were told
to wear our school
uniforms but it turned
out that they actually
prepared their
uniforms for us.”
1. Build your own vocabulary list using past tests.
Write down your vocabulary, define it, and periodically review your growing vocabulary list.
2. For Critical Reading passage based questions, experiment with different strategies.
One strategy is to read the questions first and then referencing the passage. Try different ways and use the one that suits you!
3.Know your special triangles.
A lot of the math questions are about special triangles. Try practicing more on these kinds of questions.
4. Never leave any multiple choice questions blank.
It is shown that a person who leaves every questions blank and a person who randomly guesses all the answers received the same scores. Also,
raw scores are only whole numbers, quarter point deductions for incorrect answers will not affect your score due to rounding-up.
5. Read, read, read-especially the topics that you don’t find particularly interesting.
A lot of students tend to switch to skimming mode when encountering boring passages, such as the passages on the SAT. One way to retain
focus is to engage in active reading such as annotating. If you struggle with certain subjects, read more on those!
6. If you’re stuck on a math problem, start writing.
Label the diagrams, draw a picture, and plug in the numbers. Expand, factor, and simplify expressions. Often there are hidden patterns in ques-
tions that one misses until they start writing things down.
7. In your essay, consider the opposing point of view.
Graders love writing that sounds mature. One easy way to sound more mature is to acknowledge the opposing point of view in your thesis. It is
also a great way to make your writing stand out among hundreds of other essays your grader is grading.
8.Always show your work.
Doing math mentally frequently leads to silly mistakes, even if you are confident! Write it down!
9.Use official tests to practice with.
Use the College Board’s “official” SAT prep books. They are excellent practice.
10. Create a collection of mature sounding words and phrases to incorporate into your essay.
A six level essay “ exhibits skillful use of language, using a varied, accurate and apt vocabulary.” When you see phrases that could be written in
your essay, jot them down and review them. Incorporate them into your practice essays !
The Annoying Vocabulary
We all know that vocabulary on the SAT are challenging. No one wants to memorize all the vocabulary words. It’s not entertaining
at all! Do you like Facebook? Check out the SAT page and enjoy your Facebook time, as well as, unconsciously absorbing the
special SAT Vocabulary with “SAT Words of the Day”.
It is the start of a fresh, new season! There are many athletes out there full of delight to try out some sports! Besides the popular
basketball and volleyball teams, and talented players we got here, soccer is another well-played sport at TCIS.
Some people might not know about soccer. Soccer began to emerge in England between the period of 9 th and 14th centuries.
However, the game was violent and without rules. This led to the evolution of soccer to other continents such as Asia, America, and
Africa.
In 1863, The Football Association (FA) formed, and they came up with a set of rules to manage soccer. The first official soccer
match took place in Battersea Park, London. The FA helped to established soccer as a legitimate sport that could be played in
schools and colleges.
After knowing some basic history of soccer, we should get to know some of the skillful and hard working athletes we have at
TCIS. The Howl had the opportunity to talk with Shinya (10), who is only 15 years old, but has joined every boy soccer team since [this
season...try getting more specific with the year he began playing].
[Shinya said that it had been 10 years since he started to play soccer. He continues to play because he enjoys this sport, and his
cousin, who is really good at soccer, motivates him to be a skilled player. He plays the major position as goalkeeper, because he is
best at it. In both U17 and U19, he challenges himself to keep the other side’s score low as possible.]...Traditionally in News Magazine
or Newspaper articles quotes are provided from the source in the following format:
“Is has been 10 years since I started playing soccer. I play because I enjoy sports. My cousin, who is really good at soccer, moti-
vates me to be a skilled player. My main position is as goalkeeper because it is what I am best at. I U17 and U19 soccer I challenge
myself to keep the other side’s score as low as possible” Shinya 10, said.
When he is with stronger teams, he pressures himself for improvements whenever he makes mistakes. There is one game that
shocked him more than any other. In the first three seconds of the game, the other team tried to shoot the goal from half field. The ball
almost went in the goal, but luckily, it hit the goal bar.
“I will try my best to be a goalkeeper who has spirit and improves with the whole team! I believe that we can win the game!”
Shinya said.
Another player in U17 girl soccer team this season, Fanny (11), joins soccer for her fifth year.
“I love soccer not just because I love sports, but because it gives me passion, and I love my teammates. Soccer has taught me
the importance of teamwork, respect, roles of responsibilities, and having self-confidence.” Fanny said.
Their coaches also give them a lot of support by always encouraging them no matter if they win or lose.
“They never gave up on us. Instead, they always told us to trust our teammates and ourselves, play well on our position, and we
will be great. They use a positive attitude toward us, and it really influenced us not to give up and wanting to try harder next time.”
Fanny said.
"Believe you can achieve your soccer goals and you're halfway there,” by Felicity Luckey, is a quote that inspires and motiva tes
Fanny.
These athletes are inspiring in that they try their best in every game. They play with attitude and spirit, but never fail to be a good
sport (meaning polite player with integrity). Keep up the hard work, and good luck in your future games!

sexualized components of the MV of Wrecking Ball.
Wrecking Ball currently stands at number three on the
Billboard Top 100 chart, music-wise, it is doing pretty
good. The lyrics discuss personal struggles in Miley
Cyrus’ abrupt end of her engagement with Liam
Hemsworth. The theme of being vulnerable in love
can relate easily to most of the audience. The power-
ful vocals in the chorus give the song a really good
punch of emotion differing much from her previous
single, “We Can’t Stop”. “Wrecking Ball” has been
given a bad name because of its revealing and infa-
mous MV, but don’t let that discourage you, try listen-
ing to Wrecking Ball. Give Miley a chance, will ya?

4. Why’d You Only Call Me When
You’re High? - Arctic Monkeys
From the album - AM
-British Indie band Arctic Monkeys
come back strong with their new single “Why’d You
Only Call Me When You’re High”, with Turner’s signa-
ture voice, strong beats, and its indie melody. The
repetitive hook, loud reverb of the vocals, shimmy,
and glassy guitar riffs definitely make this song one of
the Indie hits of upcoming Fall. 4 / 5
5. Berzerk - Eminem
From the album - The Marshall
Mathers LP 2
(November 2013)
-American rapper Eminem’s new
album will be released this November and he’s giving
us a taste of his new music material with his new hit
single “Berzerk”. “Berzerk” compared to his previous
singles “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie”, is
more catchy, aggressive, and feels as if he’s going
back to his original sound of “The Real Slim Shady”.
The song also borrowed the guitar riff from the song
“The Stroke” by Billy Squire, and also has references
to notable artists and personalities such as The
Beastie Boys, Public, Enemy, MC Ren of N.W.A, Tim-
baland, Birdman, and even Khloe Kardashian as “the
ugly Kardashian”. Holding back all his frustrations and
emotions in his previous album “Recovery” Eminem
comes back with his original and trademark sound
with “Berzerk”. 5 / 5

THE MUSIC CORNER (Owen Wu)
Prologue: Hi all, this column is dedicated to all the music
lovers and my passion towards music. I plan to write six
music reviews per release of The Howl, if my reviews are
approved by our chief editor, I want to do at least 10 mu-
sic reviews covering even broader genres of music.
Through writing music reviews, I hope people can explore
different types of music, have fun with music, create mu-
sic, play music, and most importantly, express your indi-
viduality with music.
1. Royals – Lorde
From the album - Love Club
-16 year old singer-songwriter from
New Zealand tops number one on the
Billboard Top 100 chart for its second
consecutive week. Lorde’s charismatic and clear voice
is heard without distraction in the song Royals. The
simple yet catchy beat of the percussion instruments
allows Lorde to amplify her unique voice and clarity,
with no overwhelming instruments covering her voice.
The lyrics of Royals sets itself apart from other current
mainstream music that talks about spending money,
doing drugs, swag, having designer clothings, etc. The
powerful lyrics act as a voice for young teens who
don’t follow the current image of pop glamour. This
catchy, simple, different, and astonishing song by
Lorde is a must-listen to song for this Fall. 5 / 5
2. Roar – Katy Perry
From the album - Roar
-Back with another song, Katy
Perry goes safari with her new hit
Roar (and we do hear her roar).
Currently number two on the Bill-
board Top 100 chart, Roar fell from number one on the
chart two weeks ago. Katy Perry’s unique and recog-
nizable voice rules the upbeat and catchy tune of this
song. Roar follows up Katy Perry’s personal struggles,
“Part of Me” being a voice to her anger after her di-
vorce, “Wide Awake” symbolizing her new awareness
in her life, and “Roar” signaling she’ll be ruling like the
King of the Beasts (Please Google: “Katy Perry Green
Dress”). 3 / 5

Volume 1, Issue 1
-For all you Metalheads, rockers, fans of Avenged Sevenfold, here’s the new single of “Hail to the King”. After the unfortunate
passing of the previous drummer, The Rev, and the removal of the temporary drummer from Dream Theater, Mark Portnoy,
Avenged Sevenfold comes back with their new permanent drummer, Arin Ilejay. The song “Hail to the King” starts with a long
signature guitar intro of AX7 (Avenged Sevenfold), the vocals were sung more than screamed compared to previous records.
Guitarist Synyster Gates takes an approach to a simpler guitar solo with little elements of his signature “arpeggio sweeping”
soloing style. “Hail to the King” can be described as a less heavy and more mainstream approach from Avenged Sevenfold.
Give the album a try and all hail to rock music.

VIDEO GAMES - An Interfusion of Art (Dino Kijkul)
Prologue: Hi. This column in the entertainment section
is dedicated to my love for videogames. If this thing sur-
vives the chief editor’s divine judgement (yes Wendy, I’m
talking about you), I plan on writing reviews for one or two
video games that are more than just a hobby. I want
more people to accept video games as more than a mind
-numbing medium of entertainment, but rather an art form
in itself that should be among the likes of Bach's music
and Picasso’s paintings.
Now let the games begin...
(Windows) > The game I will be writing about for this
piece is an indie RPG (role-playing game) known as “Ib”.
It is a horror game made created by Kouri with the “RPG
maker 2000” engine. Don’t let the “horror” label deter you
from trying this game though. The experience that comes
with it is well worth the price of time, and a few scares
never hurt anyone. Shockingly enough, this game, like all
other “RPG maker” games, is what we call an 8-bit game.
The graphics are very basic and sprites are used to rep-
resent the characters in the game. Even with a mediocre
medium and a tight budget, Kouri manages to create a
memorable experience that will be with me until the day I
die.
“Ib” follows nine year-old girl (well what did you expect) Ib
on a visit to an art museum with her parents. Strange
things begin to happen and she finds herself in a familiar
yet completely strange place. As she attempts to find a
way to return to her parents she explores new settings,
meets new characters, and solves “just-the-right difficulty”
puzzles to progress through the story. To top it all off, this
game is completely free and can be safely downloaded
through various (and yes, some illegal) sources.
Page 7
For anyone who doesn’t deal too well with horror
games (like me) you can always check out Pewdiepie’s
“Let’s Play”. He is one of the most subscribed youtu-
bers and he does a complete playthrough, with all the
endings, of “Ib” and many other games.
“Ib” is a must play for anyone who wants a nice way to
spend some time and get a hauntingly beautiful experi-
ence. I personally give this game a “Dino-approved”
label (not that it has any value whatsoever), and hope
anyone who has the time to pick it up and have some
fun!

Daniel had been living in South Africa before he moved to Bangkok.
He recounted the moment that he will never forget.
“One day, my father and I went to my cousin’s house. We saw the garage door
is open and the car is unlocked, but we did not become suspicious. When we en-tered, every room in the house is a mess.
Suddenly, three men, one with the knife and two with the guns, appeared in front
of us. My eyes opened wide in shock. Those men pushed us into a room, where
my aunt and cousin were tied up. One man used his gun and pointed to my head.
He asked me some question; however, I was speechless with fright. Eventually, those
men left and police came.
Although the robbers took all our precious stuff and money away, fortunately, none of

こんにちは! My name is Ms. Makiko and
I teach HS Japanese. I moved to Thailand last March and started teaching at TCIS so I’ve been here a little bit longer than the most of other new teachers. I’ve been enjoying working with both the students and the staff here. The students are hard working and well-behaved and the staff is both professional and caring. I’ve also been enjoying the food, massages and Thai people’s smiles! I was born in To-yama, which is located in northwest of Tokyo. We are by the ocean and also have a lot of mountains and nature. We have lots of snow during winter so I grew up skiing. We also have the best seafood in Japan (well, at least that’s what I thinkJ). After I graduated from university in Tokyo, I studied and also taught in Austra-lia, Canada and China as well as in Ja-pan. I love traveling and learning about different cultures; I am looking forward to learning more about Thai culture while I’m here!

Big Foot Surprise!
We saw these creatures in movies, but how would you react if you saw them for real? Yes, for real! Hiker John Stone-
man spotted TWO ape-like creatures, very similar to Bigfoot, in Kinzua State Park near Bradford, Pennsylvania.
When asked about his encounter with the gigantic creatures, Mr. Stoneman said: 'I'm a sceptic myself, I'm not a be-
liever, but this was not a bear and you can see fur on it.
'It's wider at the shoulders and tapers down whereas a bear is bigger in the middle and stands differently with its paws
out, this was standing like a man, like a Bigfoot.
'At first some people have discredited it and said it's just a root ball at the bottom of a fallen tree, but I've been back to
the exact spot and there is no root ball there.
'We do have black bears, but they are considerably smaller than this, it was standing about seven-foot tall.'
These claims by Mr. Stoneman, one of the members of the local outdoor pursuits group Allegheny Outdoor Adven-
tures, clearly hint the possibility of the existence of the imaginary North American creature, Big Foot.

Well, obviously, it’s not that a python actually laid eggs with cats inside. The story is that a 10-foot (304.8 cm) albino

World’s Oldest Dad All Alone
Just three years after Ramajit Raghav hit the headlines and broke the Guinness record of being the oldest man to fa-
ther a child, he hit the headlines again on the first week of October because his beloved wife left him.
Ramajit stirred up the media in 2010 when he was proved to be the oldest man in the world to father a child, at the age
of 97! And incredibly, he then went on to have a second one last year. Ramajit believes that his wife, Shakuntala Devi,
has deserted him along with their youngest child because the disappearance of their eldest son.
After being together for more than 23 years, the path his wife has chosen has left Ramajit devastated, but he believes
his wife will return one day. Shakuntala once said, “He doesn't seem old to me, he can make love like any 25-year-old
man, even better because he can go on all night, and he makes a wonderful father” when asked to talk about her hus-
band, so let’s wish the best of luck to this couple.

Mind Growing Another Nose?
People would do anything to live longer, have fun, or in this case, look better. There has been images of a nose im-
planted on a man’s forehead all over the Internet that inexplicably conveys the point!
The Chinese patient that is in the attached photo suffered damage to his nose from a car accident but will be able to
replace his rather appalling nose by the one he is growing on his forehead.
This process is called prelamination which Patrick Byrne, director of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at Johns Hopkins Health Care and Surgery Center in Green Spring Station, Maryland, believes was started when he first re-placed a woman’s ear by growing a new one on her arm. It’s really fascinating to see how people’s wants and technol-ogy can make some eccentric things possible. Who knows what this world will end up like?

Puberty...You’re doing it Wrong!
We usually expect babies to be adorable as they learn to talk and walk, that wasn’t the case with the pubescent Indian
toddler’s parents. Daily Mail kept the names anonymous on their report in October 2nd, but still informed that the three-
year-old’s condition was of his voice deepening, genitals growing, acne growing, and aggressiveness increasing.
Doctors diagnosed him as having “precocious puberty” and after a couple of years was able to make his abnormal hor-
mone values to become normal for his age. Good for him and of course his parents, who would’ve definitely freaked
out at their baby calling “mom” or “dad” with a teenage-like deep voice.
