Three Components
• Learning– Preparing our teachers to become learners– Offering our students meaningful learning opportunities
• Community– Building an understanding that learning is a shared value– Engaging all members of the community to become life-long
learners– Maintaining transparency and an openness in the process that
creates a safe environment for risk-taking, questioning, and growth
• Tools and Skills– Developing facility with tools– Using tools to teach 21st Century skills
Learning
• Adult learners– How do you learn?– Identify passions– Learn to unlearn– 21st century skills
• Students– Project-based learning– Collaborative learning– Authentic assessments– 21st century skills
Community
• Transparency of process to achieve alignment with all constituencies (Administrative team, Trustees, Parents, Teachers, Staff, Students)

• Teach Tools– Continue tech training with emphasis on applications
of tools to curriculum– Ensure that students are learning to use the tools

Goals
• Incorporate 21st century literacies into curriculum • Introduce Project-based learning• Accept that we are all learners• Understand that each of us learns differently• Educate Faculty and Staff on the nature of a
“Learning Community”• Build a learning community• Recognize, that in meeting these goals, we are
changing the culture of the school
Outcomes
• Each PLP team member will mentor 3 Haverford teachers, Fall 2009, with assistance of PLP team
• Those 3 teachers in turn will mentor 3 Haverford teachers, Spring 2010, with assistance of PLP team
• Change culture of the school

Big Take Aways from PLP
• It is possible to create an online presence• Others, who are more experienced and
knowledgeable, want to share their knowledge with you
• Humility is a good thing; it’s the basis for a “learning posture”
• Building a personal learning network is fun• Never stop learning• Year-long embedded PD is transformational
