ADVENT PAGEANT It was so wonderful to see our students dressed up and
taking part in the combined schools' Advent Pageant last
Friday. The weather looked a bit threatening but it didn't
dampen the spirit of the children involved!
Special thanks to our students who took part in the play -
all your hard work and practice was evident on the day.
Thank you to anyone who helped by walking with the
students, baking cupcakes or just coming along and
supporting the event.

Canteen Week 9 With the end of term
approaching, please
note that canteen
orders will NOT be
available next week!
School Closure Days 2018 In review this year of
our Mid-year PD week,
we found that an
average of 25% of
students were absent on days where
the community bus services did not
run. As the students’ attendance is of
paramount importance to their
wellbeing, we will be returning to matching dates with the student free
days at the high school.
For 2018, the dates we will be having
are:
Monday, 21st April 2018
Friday, 8th June 2018 (extra-long
Queen’s birthday weekend)
Friday, 17th August 2018
Friday, 7th September 2018
Friday 14 th December 2018
traditionally is the handover day
at the conclusion of the year.
There will be one day which the
busses don’t run, the 9th November.
There is one date that aligns with our
Lutheran System, and that is the last
day of Semester 1, Friday the 8th July.
Please note that as staff have 150
minutes of their NIT time per week
(not their 180-minute allocation), and
as such in their local workplace
agreement, staff are entitled to four
days per of non-contact time.
Congratulations Congratulations to Jo Platten
and Sandie Canney for
winning the continuing
positions of Learning Support
Officers at WLPS, beginning next year.
Jo Platten won the Numeracy position
on the strength of her passion for
working with older students (since this
is where a lot of students that require
numeracy support will rest);
her natural interest and passion for
education, as she is studying an
undergrad education degree;
her knowledge of the Natural Maths
program; and
How she practically supports the ethos
of the school.
Sandie Canney won the literacy
position on the strength of her passion
for literacy;
a thorough working knowledge of the
SSP program;
her understanding of how she will
support classroom teachers (as she has
a post-grad education degree, she
demonstrated an understanding of the
difference between a teaching role
and a supporting role.
Both lad ies in terv iewed wi th

STUDENT OF THE WEEK Teachers are encouraging the attitudes of appreciation, commitment, confidence, cooperation,
creativity, curiosity, empathy, enthusiasm, independence, integrity, respect and tolerance as a tool kit for
successfully relating with others. As a way of celebrating the demonstration of these attitudes by students,
staff have elected these students this week.
Year 6/7 Class (Mr Braun and Mrs Waterson)
Curiosity - Naish Andrew. Naish has been very curious during our current science UOI, asking many
questions and communicating his knowledge well. Great work Naish!
Commitment - Cody Thiele. I was impressed with Cody’s persistence and commitment towards swimming
last week. He showed a great attitude when swimming laps to improve his stamina. Great job Cody!
Year 5 Class (Mrs Burns)
Enthusiasm – Derlerean Bell. Derlerean has shown enthusiasm towards swimming tasks, making the most of
all ativities. In doing so he has shown confidence in his skills and abilities in the deeper water. Well done,
keep it up!
Commitment - Charlotte Werner. Charlotte has shown commitment towards improving her swimming and
water safety skills. She has attempted all tasks and is beginning to take grater risks and build confidence.
Well done, keep it up!
Year 3/4 Class (Mr Fladrich)
Independence - Marco Camerlengo. Its been great to see Marco making excellent progress and swimming
independently during swimming lessons. Keep up the good work Marco!
Enthusiasm - Hamish Kroehn. Hamish has enthusiastically joined in with all activities during swimming lessons.
Well done Hamish!
Year 1/2 Class (Mrs Canney and Mrs Beelitz)
Commitment - Nicolas Camerlengo. Nicolas has approached swimming with commitment, showing
willingness to try new things and take risks. Well done Nicolas!
Enthusiasm - Addison Schmidt. Addison represented our school with enthusiasm and energy at the Advent
pageant last Friday. Great chanting Addison.
Foundation/Year 1 Class (Miss Corbett)
Independence - Ajay Barker. Each time you participate in the swimming lessons this week your confidence
has grown and you have shown a willingness to try and have a go! Awesome effort Ajay!
Independence - Zack Gay. You are consistently showing great risk taking and perseverance in your
swimming lessons. Keep up the hard work this week Zack!
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Class Structures for 2018 – Information Letter Staff have arranged classes collaboratively, taking into account
student academic levels, blending of social groupings and
composite groupings that will best fit individual students. This week
you will receive a letter outlining the class which your child is in,
and the teachers of that class.
Next week, on Wednesday morning, students will participate in
step-up morning, where they experience the possibility of a
different classroom and different teacher while they complete a
Christmas activity.
Many thanks,
Adam Borgas
FROM THE BUSINESS MANAGER
Good day Parents and Guardians,
Some exciting new developments have been happening in Administration at WLPS, particularly with the
upgrading of our data system. With the new update, we have the capability of sending SMS and email
messages from the role marking system. These messages will be sent automatically to parents if a student is
absent without communication from a parent. This will make it easier for us to ensure that all students are ac-
counted for which is part of our duty of care.
With the end of the school year fast approaching, please note that all outstanding school fees need to be
finalised ASAP. Term 4 Invoices were emailed out to all families in arrears on the 28th November 2017. If you
have not received your invoice for any outstanding fees, please advise the office.
A financial guideline and fee structure for 2018 will be sent home later this week which we would appreciate
being returned before the end of the year.
Thank you to all families for your ongoing support during the 2017 school year. I look forward to working with
you to make 2018 a great year.
Merry Christmas and God Bless,
Hannelie

EXCITING NEWS FROM THE F/1 CLASS
This term the F/1 class has inquired into
what recycling is, the processes involved
in recycling and their responsibility to the
world as recyclers. After completing a bin
audit of the school, they concluded that:
- All classes could be better at recycling;
- D’Vine Hall needed a recycle bin.
The students brainstormed ways they
could actively address these problems.
One action carried out was applying for
funding from the Parents and Friends
group to go towards buying two large
recycling bins and regular (fortnightly)
pickup at the school. Two weeks after Miss
Corbett contacted the Loxton-Waikerie
Council and submitted our application
our recycling bins arrived!
To advertise and educate the rest of the school of how they could participate in the recycling process
the F/1 class formed action groups to complete projects including posters, classroom bin labels,
recycling bin labels for the council bins and an information piece for the newsletter.
The F/1 class has worked with great integrity and respect for the world they live in, and they hope you will
join them in this action!
CORNER OF PEACE
Many people know about the visit to baby Jesus from
the wise men (we actually don’t know how many but
there were 3 gifts – gold, frankincense and myrrh):
however, few seem to know that this was actually
prophesied in the Old Testament in Isaiah 60:6; God
had it all planned as we can be sure that he has it all
planned for us and we are safe in his loving hands.
God bless you all this week,
Moira
