INTRODUCTION
The story shows that how a group of students with different personalities were doing a
teamwork assignment given by their lecturer. There are various psychology factors that lead to
procrastination and slow progressing of their group
assignment.
CONCEPTS• SOCIAL LOAFING
• STEREOTYPE
• OPTIMISTIC BIAS
• NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT
• SITUATIONAL ATTRIBUTION
SOCIAL LOAFING • Tendency of certain members of a group to get by
with less effort than what they would have put when works alone.
• Since getting same marks, they will be lazy and muddle along the group project which make a unfair situation to other members who hard-working.
How social loafing is applied in the video ?
• When the lecturer Mrs. Abdullah allocates the assignment of group project to them , Deenie thinks that other members in the group can do the project nicely .Then, he does not do anything although there are some works of project that distributes to him. When the date of tutorial arrived, he do not consult anything and get scold on the lecturer.
STEREOTYPE AND STEREOTYPE
THREAT• Stereotype : fixed, over generalized belief about a
particular group or class of people.
• Stereotype threat : situational predicament in which people are or feel themselves to be at risk of confirming negative stereotypes about their social group.
HOW STEREOTYPE SHOWS IN THE VIDEO ?
• Group members make negative stereotype to Deenie because his gender and phubbing behaviour.
• The anxiety of him to confirm the negative stereotype(lazy) lead to stereotype threat. That anxiety causes him to perform worse than what he should be. He fulfilled the expectation of his group member toward him.
OPTIMISTIC BIAS
• A pervasive phenomenon of perceiving oneself as being less likely than an average other to experience negative events.
• As a consequence of this bias, some individuals might disregard precautions that might curb these risks.
• They might not, for example, wear seatbelts as a driver and for the smokers, they will keep on smoking regardless the situation around them.
HOW OPTIMISTIC BIAS SHOWS IN THE VIDEO?
• When Deenie see others group haven’t start to do the project, he tell his group members don’t worry about the progress. They can relax now and they will not be the last to finish the project.
NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT • An event that removes that
something that makes the person feel dissatisfied.
• It purposely separate it to prevent the person from repeating the same certain behaviour.
How negative reinforcement is
applied in the video ?
• By creating a warning made by the lecturer to the group.
• Having no marks results the group's negative response.
• The group changes their behaviour to finish the work.
ATTRIBUTION• The process by which people use information to make inferences about the
causes of behaviour or events.
• There are 2 types of attribution: Dispositional Attribution and Situational Attribution
• Dispositional Attribution (Internal Attribution) is the explanation of individual behaviour as a result caused by internal characteristics that reside within the individual, as opposed to external (situational) influences that stem from the environment or culture in which that individual is found.
• Situational Attribution (External Attribution) is the attributes of your behaviour to the external or circumstantial causes. It refers to understanding an event or behaviour as being caused by the situation that the individual is in.
How dispositional attribution is applied in
the video ?Mr. Abdullah said that if the students did not do anything for the project, they will not get the marks as well. He purposely said that in order to make them work. Losing their marks is shown that he receives a result of their negative behaviour.
