STEREOTYPE AND STEREOTYPE

THREAT• Stereotype : fixed, over generalized belief about a

particular group or class of people.

• The anxiety of him to confirm the negative stereotype(lazy) lead to stereotype threat. That anxiety causes him to perform worse than what he should be. He fulfilled the expectation of his group member toward him.

OPTIMISTIC BIAS

• A pervasive phenomenon of perceiving oneself as being less likely than an average other to experience negative events.

• As a consequence of this bias, some individuals might disregard precautions that might curb these risks.

• They might not, for example, wear seatbelts as a driver and for the smokers, they will keep on smoking regardless the situation around them.

ATTRIBUTION• The process by which people use information to make inferences about the

causes of behaviour or events.

• There are 2  types of attribution: Dispositional Attribution and Situational Attribution

• Dispositional Attribution (Internal Attribution) is the explanation of individual behaviour as a result caused by internal characteristics that reside within the individual, as opposed to external (situational) influences that stem from the environment or culture in which that individual is found.

• Situational Attribution (External Attribution) is the attributes of your behaviour to the external or circumstantial causes. It refers to understanding an event or behaviour as being caused by the situation that the individual is in.

Page 14: Social psychology Group Project 2 Presentation

How dispositional attribution is applied in

the video ?Mr. Abdullah said that if the students did not do anything for the project, they will not get the marks as well. He purposely said that in order to make them work. Losing their marks is shown that he receives a result of their negative behaviour.
