Introduction to PLS100.
The PLS100 design is a partyline system with selective calling / all calling
facility using inband dialing.
It can be used as a conference equipment with directions East, West and
North using a 4-way amplifier. This can be used with the traditional Power
Line Carrier Systems.
Additionally it can also accommodate optional 64 KBPS digitiser cards sothat it can be connected to the V.11 / 64KBPS interface of Digital
Communication Equipment such as Fox-U of ABB.
It is intended that the system should use a standard 2-wire telephone
with only DTMF dialing. Hence the client can also change the telephone
instrument if he so desires.
It is available in Table Top or 19rack version which can be mounted in the
same cubicle as PLC or Fox using existing 48VDC supply.

Product Features.
- Reduces the number Communication equipments due to shared omnibus channel.
- Channel / Any station is always available.- 4 way bridging amplifier allows connection to 3 external directions.
- Linear or Star / T-networks are possible.
- 2 digit DTMF dialing is possible using any ordinary DTMF telephone.
- Ring back tone is possible which can be disabled.
- Group i.e. All station dialing is possible.
- Additional speaker monitoring is possible.- Full-duplex voice.
- Though freq. range is 0.3 to 3.6kHz, it works satisfactorily with 2 KHz
transmission bandwidth also.
- Can be directly connected to any 4 wire equipment.
- 4 wire level adjustment is possible viz. 3.5dB + 4dB.
- Optional but built-in ADCs allow connection on V.11 / 64KB ports.
- Much cheaper compared to an EPAX.
- Practically little or no maintenance required.
- Works on standard 48VDC power supply.

Comparison between PLS100 & EPAX.
PLS100. EPAX
Communication channel is shared. Communication channel is dedicated.
While using PLS, only 1 link per direction is reqd. No. of channels or links is equal to no. of trunks of EPAX.
Channel is never busy. If channel is busy, new person cannot make a call.
There is no privacy in speech. There is privacy in speech.
It is very cheap. EPAX is expensive.
Due to reduction in no. of communication eqpts
required, the total system is quite cheap.
The total communication system is very expensive.
Minimum maintenance of PLS100 & of the
communication system as a whole.
Maintenance required for the EPAX & also all the
communication equipments with which it is used..
Speech is possible on digital V.11/64KB links in
addition to 4 wire.
Speech is possible only on 4 wire unless it is a very
sophisticated EPAX.
Installation is very easy and convenient. Installation / commissioning requires special trained person.
Group dialing facility possible. Not applicable though conference option may be available.PLS100 is typically useful to operators /
maintenance persons for multi station conference.
EPAX is useful for larger stations with many people. Used
for operation & maintenance & also administrative
functions.When used as EOW with FO/MW, quick comm. isestablished. This helps during installation & also
during 2MB / 8MB / EPAX breakdown.
EPAX cannot be used as Engineering Order Wire.
