A Father’s Day Prayer
Heavenly Father, you entrusted your Son, Jesus, the child of Mary, to the care of Joseph, an earthly father. Bless all fathers as they care for their families. Give them strength and wisdom, tenderness and patience; support them in the work they have to do, protecting those who look to them, as we look to You for love and salvation, through Jesus Christ our rock and defender, in
union with the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. St. Joseph, Pray for all our Fathers. Amen.

Fear no one! Jesus tells us today, “Fear no one.” A couple of days ago a friend of mine messaged me on Facebook ask-ing, “Are we living in end times?” I an-swered her, “No we are not!” Then I re-ferred to Paul’s second letter to the Thes-salonians. Paul writes, “Let no one de-ceive you in any way; for that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes
first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God…And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time. For the mystery lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way” (2 Thess 2:3-7).
Who should we fear? What should we not fear? We must fear God. Fear of God is the holy fear (Ex 20: 20; Phil 2:12). God alone administers judgement. We must also fear the evil one and must be resisted. This fear is for the sake of not losing our union and friendship with God. On-ly destruction and lawlessness remain with him. He is our worst enemy (Eph 6: 11; Jas 4:7; 1 Pet 5:8-10). I think, we should see fear and freedom together. In freedom we are called to choose God. In freedom we are called to love him. In our freedom we are called to preserver in faith. Where the Spirit of the Lord, there is freedom! (2 Cor 3:17). In my childhood Catechism book, I saw a picture of a tree planted between a river on one side and the huge garbage pit on the other. The tree leans towards the pit as it grows. The question under the picture was, “Where would this tree fall when it dies?” The answer given was, “It will fall down where it leans as it grows!” We live in
an imperfect world and we act and behave as per our weaknesses. We also have the goodness that God has in-stilled in us. Moreover, God has given us his own Spirit through the sacraments. Jesus, as lived in our human na-ture has shown that there is nothing impossible when it comes to choose God and do His will. He is our way, truth and the life. Did Jesus fear? Of course, he did! He sweat blood in the Garden of Gethsemane. He told the disciples that the spirit was willing but the flesh was weak (Mt 26:41). Did Jesus trust God more than he was sorrowful and troubled? His trust in God was so tremendous that he walked the path of the cross and died; showed the world that the God whom He trusted rose Him back.
During this time of darkness and a lot of unrest, Jesus’ words come to us, consoling us and encouraging us, “Fear no one!” Fear not this world. Fear not any human agent who can bring about destruction or even death. We are called to trust in God through Jesus and His Spirit who continues the mission of Jesus in the world. The God whom we trust is not an anonymous God, formless and transcendent. We believe in God in His Son, Jesus our Lord. He lives with us in his glorified body. We encounter Him at every Mass. We live in a world where God lives with us. That is the truth of our faith in the Eucharist. Let each day of ours be a day of joyfulness and peace for our God is a God of mercy and love. Let each of us encourage one another choosing the good and resisting the evil.
In Christ,
Fr. Sengole Gnanaraj

Gloria a tí, Señor Jesús. ¡Venid y adoremos a Cristo Redentor!
