Overview of Neighborhood Officer positions:

email and newsletters regarding issues, alerts, and city information; prepare newsletters and ar-

range distribution; conduct meetings in compliance of by-laws and as issues dictate; schedule and

organize volunteers for neighborhood clean up; enlist volunteers to attend city trainings, (i.e. re-

cycling training); organize annual social events.

Vice-chair: assist Chair in above duties. Take over various organizational or representative duties

depending on interests.

Secretary/Treasurer: take meeting minutes for inclusion in newsletter; keep ledger of finances,

make deposits and withdrawals for Association business; assist Chair/vice-chair with functions.

Call or email Eileen if you have any questions.

Your free Leaf Disposal Coupon is below. The

coupons are good from October 1 – December 31

and are good for up to 5 cubic yards of LEAVES

ONLY. (Yard debris or mixed loads will be

charged at the regular price). Note that leaves can

now be taken to nearby City Bark, 2419 NE An-

dresen Rd.

Thanks to Dave and Eileen Sherrill who at-

tended Waste Connection’s Recycling 101

training this month. By sending a represen-

tative from the neighborhood, we earn $120

for our treasury. Watch for articles in our

November/December newsletter to learn

what’s new and important in recycling.

The Vancouver Police Department is partnering with local businesses to get out an important

message: REMOVE VALUABLES FROM VEHICLES!

Thieves are often drug users who steal to pay for their habit.

For an experienced thief it only takes a few seconds to shatter a car window and steal valuables.

Thieves use the buddy system. One is the lookout and the other breaks into the car and steals.

Thieves watch for people to “hide” a purse, laptop, briefcase or electronic device under a seat or in the

trunk. They wait until the person is away from the car and then smash and grab, pop the trunk if needed to

get the good stuff, and they and your valuables are gone. Often, thieves break into cars parked in drive-

ways. Install good outdoor lighting, remove valuables, and lock your vehicles. Protect your property, your

identity, and yourself. Don’t store valuables in your vehicle!

Leaf coupon will be in printed flyer

delivered to your home

What to Bring: Bulky household items,

miscellaneous junk, dry paint cans, yard

debris. Wood without metal attached may

be disposed of as yard debris.

Bring your recyclable metal items, we’ll

have a separate metal recycling container

again this year. Proceeds go to our

neighborhood treasury.

**You may also dispose of four tires

without rims**

Clean Up and Chipper Location:

MacArthur Center parking lot

7635 MacArthur Blvd. (behind Blairco)

**One Way Traffic: Please enter the Clean

Up site from Alabama Drive on the west

side of parking lot. Exit only to the east.

Our volunteers will direct you.

To participate in the clean up, you MUST

have the coupons that are attached to this

newsletter. Because we have people taking

advantage of our clean up, volunteers will

turn away those who don’t have coupons.

Please don’t put our volunteers on the spot

by asking to dump without a coupon!

What NOT to Bring: Household gar-

bage, hazardous waste materials, paint,

oil, car batteries, refrigerators, roofing

tear off, concrete. No computers,

monitors, TVs, or laptops are allowed.

Re-use or Re-purpose: If you have items that you no longer want but that are still

usable, set them off to the side at our Clean-Up. We always have a “re-use” corner

which can give new life to items.

Yard Debris Disposal: Do not bring yard debris carts full of dirt and rocks, brush is ok.

For ease of unloading, bag up loose leaves, pine needles, and other loose items.

Empty yard debris bags, do not leave them for someone else to empty.

Please be prepared to unload your yard debris.

Be sure to wear gloves and bring any tools needed to unload.

New coupons this year: Each coupon is good for two loads. Volunteers will mark the

coupon after your first load and you’ll take it with you; when you return with your second

load, volunteers will keep the coupon.

Clean-up Coupons will be included in the

printed newsletter delivered to your home.

If left alone, graffiti will attract more of the same. It creates a perception that the area is unsafe. To curb the spread of graffiti it is important for all of us toaddress it as soon as it is observed. How can you help? 1. Record —Take a picture, document the date, time, location and color of the graffiti 2. Report—Provide details to the appropriate agency 3. Remove from your property — once notified, wash or paint away quickly & thoroughly

If you see someone in the act of placing graffiti or have information about a suspect call 9-1-1 immediately.Report Graffiti based on location:
