AmonthlynewsletterfromtheMilfordExemptedVillageSchoolDistrictBoardofEducationTheMilfordBoardofEducationmetonThursday,November9,2017atCharlesL.SeipeltElementary.PresentationsWelcomeSeipeltPrincipalSarahGrebspokeabouttheirpilotoftheMindfulMusicMomentsprogramforthedistrict.Theprogramworksinpartnershipwithworld-classperformingartsorganizationstobringdailymindfulnessandclassicalmusictoschools.Eachdaystudentsandstafftakethreeminutestopause,turninwardtogether,andlistentoabriefmindfulnesspromptandworld-classmusic.Also,asawrap-uptorecesseachday,homeroomstakeaMindfulMusicbreaktoresetandrefocusforafternoonlearningenvironments.Veterans’RecognitionTheceremonybeganwiththepresentationofcolorsbytheMilfordHighSchoolROTC.MilfordjuniorAlexaMuellersangtheNationalAnthemandthehighschool
chambersingers,ledbyTracyCarpenter,sangEPluribusUnum.SuperintendentNancyHousethenrecognizedMilfordseniorBenjaminGerdingforhisleadershipin
coordinatingtheRemembranceattheMeadows.Next,BoardPresidentGaryKneppgaveapresentationaboutMilfordHighSchoolgraduateswhoservedinWorldWarI.Mr.KneppandtheMilfordJuniorHighSchoolBuilder’sClubpresentedmorethan300boxes,aswellas,cashdonationstoDianaLawrenceofTroopBoxMinistries.GreatOaksReportMr.DaveYockeysharedthatGreatOakswillhavearenewalofitsoperatinglevyin2018.
Athletics/ExtracurricularReportMrs.MarquesandMr.Lucassharedthefollowingupdate.ATHLETICS• Milfordfootballteamendedtheirfirstwinning
seasoninover15years;capturedashareoftheECCchampionship;andqualifiedfortheplayoffsforthefirsttimeinover30years.
• HarrisCraycraftqualifiedforOHSAAregionalcrosscountrymeetandplaced62ndoverall.
• Thewaterpoloteamscappedtheirseasonwithan8thplacefinishwhilethegirlsplaced9thintheOhioStateChampionships.
• TheDanceTeam’sannualYouthClinicwillbeheldDecember19forKindergartenthrough8thgradestudents.
• PracticesforallWintersportsteamsareunderwaywithconteststobeginsoon.
• TheMilfordAthleticBooster’sCraftShowwillbeheldatMilfordHighSchoolonDecember2.

theNationalACappellaFestivalinDayton.• TheMHSWinterChoirConcertwilltakeplaceon
November30,at7p.m.intheMHSauditorium.• ThroughoutDecember,Notable,andChamber
SingerswillbeperforminginvenuesaroundtheMilfordcommunity.
• TheMarchingBandhadsuccessatMidstatesBandCompetitionatColerainHighSchoollastmonth,winningReserveGrandChampion,andOverallBestColorguardandBestVisual.ThebandtravelledtoIndianapolisfortheBandsofAmericaGrandNationals.
BusinessAdvisoryCouncil(BAC)Mr.GeorgeLucassharedthattheBACdidnotmeetinOctober.ThenextBACmeetingdatewillbepostedonthedistrictwebsite.
StudentCouncilRepresentativesMaddieAtwellsharedthatthehighschoolwasfilledwithspiritwhenstudentslinedthehallwaystocheeronthefootballteamfortheplayoffsandthemarchingbandfortheirBandsofAmericacompetition.StudentCouncilislookingintoholdingawinterdance.ShealsosharedthattheexchangestudentsfromTaiwanenjoyedtheirtimeatMilfordHighSchool.PublicParticipationNoneTreasurer’sReportMrs.DebbieCaudleMrs.CaudlesharedthatthedistrictparticipatesinSWOOSH,ahealthconsortiumforareaschooldistricts.Becausestaffhavekeptclaimscostdownthroughpricingtoolsandwellnessvisits,SWOOSHwasawardedapremiumholiday.MilfordstaffdidnothavetopayhealthpremiumsforNovember.Overall,itsavedemployeesmorethan$106,000andtheBoard$440,000.TheBoardapproved:• FinancialreportsforthemonthendingOctober31,
2017.• ResolutionforproposedEnterpriseZoneAgreement
forMidwestBestBBQ&Creamery.
Superintendent’sReportMrs.NancyHouseTheBoardapprovedaresolutioninsupportofSB216,anEducationDeregulationBill.Thebill’sintentistoreduceregulationsandmandatesfor
localschoolstoincreaselocalcontrol,improveefficiency,reducecosts,andimprovestudentachievement.TheBoard’sresolutionwillbeforwardedtotheOhioSenateEducationCommittee.
