SATCHEL PAIGECOULD PUTSENATORS INFIRST PLACE

WASHINGTON (ANP)“I swear to God, we would be infirst place if we had SatchelPaige.” That mournful reflectioncame from the lips of WashingtonSenator Manager Bucky Harris, pilot of the all-white diamondrepresentatives of the nation’scapitol.

“We’d be right at the top if wehad him,” Harris continued, “andI think Cleveland would be awayout in front with Satch ... IfSt. Louis didn’t have him, they’dbe on the bottom.”

Oddly enough, Clark Griffith, owner of the Senators, has neverseen the necessity of changing hisJim Crow ways even when itwould mean money in his pocket.Griffith has been the target ofdemocratic protest for the pastdecade, but he’s always playeddeaf.

Many Washington observers feelthat Negro baseball fans need to

go on a sitdown strike against theSenators before Griff will open hisear drums.
