New Era TheRobertMorriswomen’shockeyprogrambeginsanewerathisseasonasfirst-yearheadcoachPaulColontinowillbebehindtheColonialbenchafterbeinghiredtothepositionthispastsummer.Colontino,whohadservedasassociateheadcoachatMercyhurstsince2006,helpedguideteamstotheNCAATournamentineachofthepastfiveyears,includingearningtwoFrozenFourberths,andhasoveradecadeofwomen’shockeycoachingexperienceattheDivisionIlevel.ForfurtherdetailsonColontino’sbackgroundandhistory,pleasegotopage9. WhileColontinoleadsthestaff,healsobroughtontwoadditionalnewcomerstohelpcoachtheColonialsthispastoffseason.HehiredAllisonRutledgeasanassistantcoachandaddedformerColonialBrianneMcLaughlinasavolunteerassistantcoach. Rutledge,whopreviouslyservedasanassistantcoachatWayneStatesince2007,hasearnednationalrecognitionanddemonstratedsuccessasbothaDivisionIplayerandcoachandalsoboastseightyearsofexperienceinCHAcompetition.InherfirstseasonatWayneState,RutledgeandherfellowWarriorcoacheswerenamedtheNationalCoachingStaffoftheYearbytheAmericanHockeyCoachesAssociation(AHCA)afterfinishingtheseasonwiththefirstnationalrankinginprogramhistoryandsecuringaschool-record22wins.RutledgehelpedWayneStatetoashareofitsfirstCHAregular-seasonchampionshipalongwithbreakingtheschoolrecordsforlongestwinningstreak(ninegames)andlongestunbeatenstreak(11games).RutledgehadastrongpedigreeforworkingwithWayneState’sgoaliesasshewasanAll-AmericangoaltenderduringherplayingdaysatNiagara.Shestarted110gamesinhercollegiatecareerandranksthirdall-timeinNCAAhistorywith3,405saves. McLaughlinhadastoriedcollegiatecareerforRobertMorrisbeforecompetingforhercountryinbothOlympicandWorldChampionshipevents.In120careergamesforRobertMorris,McLaughlinstoppedaNCAA-record3,809shots,afigurethatismorethan200clearoftheclosestnetmind-er.McLaughlinwasafour-timeAll-CollegeHockeyAmericaawardwinnerandalsoearnednationaldefensiveplayeroftheweekhonorsonthreeoccasionsinhercareer.Lessthanoneyearaftershecompletedhercollegiatecareer,McLaughlintraveledtoVancouver,BritishColumbiaforthe2010OlympicGamesasamemberoftheU.S.NationalTeam.Sheappearedintheteam’sfirstgameofthetournament,becomingthefirstColonialstudent-athletetocompeteintheOlympics,andwentontohelptheU.S.earnasilvermedal.
Colontino’s First Win RobertMorrisensuredthatfirst-yearmentorPaulColontino’scollegiatehead-coachingdebutwouldbeamemorableoneastheColonialsrolledtoanimpressive8-0victoryovervisitingLindenwoodOct.7intheir2011-12regular-seasonopener.Colontino,hiredthispastJune,earnedhisfirstwinwitheaseasRMUalreadyhelda4-0leadafterjust27minutesofaction.ThreedifferentColonials,includingtwofreshmen,significantlyaidedColontino’scausebyeachcontributingatrioofpoints.Theeight-goaloutputwastiedforthefifth-bestinprogramhistory,andtheshutoutwasthefirstforRMUeitherathomeorinnon-conferenceplaysincethe2008-09season.ItalsomarkedboththeColonials’bestscoringoutputandbiggestmarginofvictoryeverinaseasonopener.
National Notice Justthreedaysaftertyingtheprogramrecordforwins,RobertMorrisearnedvotesinthelatestUSCHOnationalrankingsJan.9.ItmarkedthefirsttimesinceNovember2009thatRMUclaimedvotesintheweeklyUSCHOpoll,whichisalmostexclusivelyvoteduponbyheadcoachesacrossthecountry.RobertMorriswasoneoffiveschoolstoearnmentioninthe‘othersreceivingvotes’category.
Vint Named CHA Rookie of the Month ForwardRebeccaVintcontinuedtoearnincreasinglyimpressivehonorsearlyinhercareerasthefreshmanwasnamedtheCHARookieoftheMonthforOctober.VintbecamethesecondactiveColonial,joiningsophomoreTheaImbrogno,tohavewonaCHAmonthlyaward.ShesecuredthehonorforleadingtheleagueinpointswhilehelpingtheColonialstoa6-1-1record,thebesteight-gamestartinschoolhistory.VintburstontothesceneinheropeningmonthofcollegiatecompetitionbyscoringatrecordratestoleadRobertMorristoaswiftstart.Shetalliedthreepoints,ontwogoalsandanassist,inthefirst31minutesoftheseasonopenerandneverlookedback.Aftertallyingtwopointsinhersecondgame,Vintshowedaflairforthedramaticearlyinhercareer--afternotchinganassisttopullRMUwithinone,shescoredthegame-tyinggoalwithfewerthanthreeminutesremaininginregulationagainstMinnesotaStateinacontesttheColonialswouldwininovertime.Inherthirdweekend,VintbecamejustthesecondColonialinprogramhistorytotallyatleastfourpointsinagameawayfromhomewhilesimultaneouslycollectingherthirdmulti-goalgameinherfirstfiveoutings.Vint,whowonaPlayeroftheWeekandaRookieoftheWeekawardduringthemonth,scoredineachofherfirstsixgames,thefirsttimeanyColonialhadeverscoredinsixconsecutivecontests,whileregisteringmulti-pointeffortsinfiveofthoseaffairs. Impressive Imbrogno Is Reigning Rookie of the Year Afterarecord-settingfreshmancampaign,TheaImbrognobecamethefirststudent-athleteinprogramhistorytowinamajorpostseasonleagueawardastheconferencenamedImbrognotheCHARookieoftheYearatitsannualbanquetlastMarch. TherookierecognitionwasfarfromtheonlyhonorImbrognoreceivedasshewasalsotheonlyfreshmantoearn2011all-conferencehonorsasshewasselectedtotheAll-CHASecondTeam.Shebecamejustthesecondfreshmanintheprogram’ssix-yearhistorytobechosentoanall-leagueteam,joiningformerColonialstandoutandUnitedStatesOlympianBrianneMcLaughlin.Imbrogno’sselectionmarkstheseventhoverallAll-CHAaward(FirstorSecondTeam)foraColonialastheyoungRMUprogramhasproducedatleastoneall-conferencehonoreeineveryseasonofitsexistence. Strong Start RMUhadstartedstrongonitsseason-openingweekendinitspreviousthreeseasons,beat-ingnationally-rankedteamseachtime,buttheColonialsextendedthattrendtotheentirefirsthalfoftheseasonin2011-12.RobertMorriswasofftoa11-2-2start,thebest15-gamestartinprogramhistory.ThemonthofOctoberalsomarkedjustthesecondtimeinschoolhistorythatRMUpostedatleastsixwinsinasinglecalendarmonth.RMUissixthnationallyinscoringdefense,allowingjust1.79goalspergame.RobertMorrisisalsoeighthacrossthecountryingoalspergameandalsoranksamongthetopsevennationallyinscoringmargin.TheColonials’currentmarkof12-5-2hasthemwiththeeighthhighestwinningpercentageinthecountry.

Academic Athletes TheRobertMorriswomen’shockeyteamearnedaconference-best16selectionsontheCHAAll-AcademicTeamthatwasannouncedthispastsummer.RMUfreshmanAnnelineLauzieremeritedfurtherdistinctionasshewasoneofjustsixstudent-athletesintheCHAtobenamedtotheleague’sAcademicAll-StarTeam,asquadthathonorsthestudent-athletesthathaveachievedthehighestgrade-pointaveragesfortheirrespectivepositions.Lauziere,abiologymajor,earnedadazzling3.97GPAfortheseason,includingclaimingaperfect4.0averageduringthefirstsemesterofhercollegiatecareer.ThedefensemanwaspreviouslynamedasRMU’sMostImprovedPlayeraftershegatheredfivepoints,includingherfirst-careergoal,duringthefinal13gamesoftheregularseason.ToqualifyfortheCHAAll-AcademicTeam,astudent-athletemustposta3.0GPAorhigherinalloftheacademicperiodsduringwhichherteamwasactivelycompeting.While3.0representstheminimumstandardtoqualify,all16ofRobertMorris’selectionsactuallyachievedaGPAofatleast3.2duringthepastacademicyear.FreshmanforwardTheaImbrognowasoneofjustsixstudent-athletesacrosstheCHAtoclaimbothAll-ConferenceandAll-AcademicTeamhonors.Imbrogno,the2010-11CHARookieoftheYear,putupa3.91GPAduringherfirstseasonwiththeColonialsasabiologymajorwhilealsorankingsixthnationallyinpointspergameforrookies.

InColontino’sfiveseasonswithMercyhurst,theLakershavepostedanoverallrecordof148-25-9(.838),advancedtothenationalchampionshipgameonce,made
