    New Era TheRobertMorriswomenshockeyprogrambeginsanewerathisseasonasfirst-yearheadcoachPaulColontinowillbebehindtheColonialbenchafterbeinghiredtothepositionthispastsummer.Colontino,whohadservedasassociateheadcoachatMercyhurstsince2006,helpedguideteamstotheNCAATournamentineachofthepastfiveyears,includingearningtwoFrozenFourberths,andhasoveradecadeofwomenshockeycoachingexperienceattheDivisionIlevel.ForfurtherdetailsonColontinosbackgroundandhistory,pleasegotopage9. WhileColontinoleadsthestaff,healsobroughtontwoadditionalnewcomerstohelpcoachtheColonialsthispastoffseason.HehiredAllisonRutledgeasanassistantcoachandaddedformerColonialBrianneMcLaughlinasavolunteerassistantcoach. Rutledge,whopreviouslyservedasanassistantcoachatWayneStatesince2007,hasearnednationalrecognitionanddemonstratedsuccessasbothaDivisionIplayerandcoachandalsoboastseightyearsofexperienceinCHAcompetition.InherfirstseasonatWayneState,RutledgeandherfellowWarriorcoacheswerenamedtheNationalCoachingStaffoftheYearbytheAmericanHockeyCoachesAssociation(AHCA)afterfinishingtheseasonwiththefirstnationalrankinginprogramhistoryandsecuringaschool-record22wins.RutledgehelpedWayneStatetoashareofitsfirstCHAregular-seasonchampionshipalongwithbreakingtheschoolrecordsforlongestwinningstreak(ninegames)andlongestunbeatenstreak(11games).RutledgehadastrongpedigreeforworkingwithWayneStatesgoaliesasshewasanAll-AmericangoaltenderduringherplayingdaysatNiagara.Shestarted110gamesinhercollegiatecareerandranksthirdall-timeinNCAAhistorywith3,405saves. McLaughlinhadastoriedcollegiatecareerforRobertMorrisbeforecompetingforhercountryinbothOlympicandWorldChampionshipevents.In120careergamesforRobertMorris,McLaughlinstoppedaNCAA-record3,809shots,afigurethatismorethan200clearoftheclosestnetmind-er.McLaughlinwasafour-timeAll-CollegeHockeyAmericaawardwinnerandalsoearnednationaldefensiveplayeroftheweekhonorsonthreeoccasionsinhercareer.Lessthanoneyearaftershecompletedhercollegiatecareer,McLaughlintraveledtoVancouver,BritishColumbiaforthe2010OlympicGamesasamemberoftheU.S.NationalTeam.Sheappearedintheteamsfirstgameofthetournament,becomingthefirstColonialstudent-athletetocompeteintheOlympics,andwentontohelptheU.S.earnasilvermedal.

    Colontinos First Win RobertMorrisensuredthatfirst-yearmentorPaulColontinoscollegiatehead-coachingdebutwouldbeamemorableoneastheColonialsrolledtoanimpressive8-0victoryovervisitingLindenwoodOct.7intheir2011-12regular-seasonopener.Colontino,hiredthispastJune,earnedhisfirstwinwitheaseasRMUalreadyhelda4-0leadafterjust27minutesofaction.ThreedifferentColonials,includingtwofreshmen,significantlyaidedColontinoscausebyeachcontributingatrioofpoints.Theeight-goaloutputwastiedforthefifth-bestinprogramhistory,andtheshutoutwasthefirstforRMUeitherathomeorinnon-conferenceplaysincethe2008-09season.ItalsomarkedboththeColonialsbestscoringoutputandbiggestmarginofvictoryeverinaseasonopener.

    National Notice Justthreedaysaftertyingtheprogramrecordforwins,RobertMorrisearnedvotesinthelatestUSCHOnationalrankingsJan.9.ItmarkedthefirsttimesinceNovember2009thatRMUclaimedvotesintheweeklyUSCHOpoll,whichisalmostexclusivelyvoteduponbyheadcoachesacrossthecountry.RobertMorriswasoneoffiveschoolstoearnmentionintheothersreceivingvotescategory.
