• Polyesterbattingcanbeprettywrinkledwhenitistakenoutofthebag.Togetthewrinklesout,putitinthedryerwithacoupledryerballsorcleantennisballs.Putitonthelowestheatsettingforfourorfiveminutes.Itwillcomeoutsmoothandsoft.Iimaginethiswouldworkforanytypeofbatting.
• Leftoverbattingcanbeputtogetherusingahemstitch.Youcanhardlytellit’sbeenpieced

Kayjoinedtheguildin2011afterherretirement.ShehasservedontheProgramCommittee(chairandmember)andwasNewsletter-ElectandChairaswellastheQuiltShowchair.Shelovescomingtoguildandsharingherloveofquiltingwithothersandadmiringthediversityofartistictalentandskillofthemembers.Sheenjoyslearningnewtechniquesandispleasedtohavefoundahomewiththeguild.
Kayandherhusband,Neal,havebeenmarriedfor51years.Theyhavetwochildrenandninegrandchildren(ages23-14).KaygrewupinMarylandandisanonlychild,butwassurroundedbylotsofgrandparents,great-grandparents,aunts,unclesandcousins.Hermotherpassedherloveofsewingdowntoher.Shelovedtosewandmadealotofherclothesespeciallydresses,suitsanddollclothes.Hermotherdidn’tquilt,butlovedquiltsandcollectedquiltsandunfinishedprojectsfromherGrandmother.Kaynowhasthose.Kay’sonlyregretisthatshenevergottoshareherquiltswithhermotherbeforeshedied.Shedoes,however,sharetheloveofquiltingwithherdaughter.
Kaybegansewinginearnestintheseventies,makingherchildrenandhusbandclothesfromdoubleknitfabric.Sheevendabbledinlingerieandbathingsuitsforatime.However,eventuallyhernursingcareerandchildrearingtookuptoomuchtime.Shemadeherfirstofficialquiltin2000ataretreattaughtbychurchfriends.Next,attheurgingofherdaughterwhenthethirdgrandchildwasborn,shebeganmakingbabyquilts,andthenbunksizequiltsforeachgrandchild.Kaylovesbatikfabricand“modern”stylequiltsthemost.Shehastwomorebunksizequiltstomakeforgrandchildrenandallkindsofkitsareinherstashwaitingforherattention.
