NEPAL, v1

The present map shows the urban sprawl of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Kirtipur, MadhyapurThimi, Jorpati and Gonggabu cities between 1972 and 2014, understanding as urban area acontinuous aggregation of buildings with high-medium density of houses that can beobserved in the Landsat imagery. These cit ies belong to Kathmandu and Bhaktapur districts(Nepal). It also includes the municipality limits and its corresponding name. The urban extent vectors are obtained by digitalisation from visual interpretation of theLandsat images from 1972 until 2014.The accuracy shown in the map is according with the resolution of the images that have beenused and it is, in general, equivalent to a 1:100,000 scale. The statistical table included in this map shows the urban extent in square kilometres foreach year and for each city.Map produced by Indra Sistemas S.A. under contract 257228 with the EuropeanCommission. All products are © of the European Commission.Name of the release inspector (Quality Control): JRC.E-mail: [email protected]

The products elaborated in the framework of current mapping in non-rush mode activationare realised to the best of our ability, within a very short time frame during a crisis, optimisingthe available data and information. All geographic information has limitations due to scale, resolution, date and interpretation of the original data sources. The products are compliantwith the GIO-EMS non-rush Product Portfolio specifications.

The core user of the map is the DG ECHO/DG JRC, supporting the Nepal Risk ReductionConsortium (NRRC).The potential additional users of the map are humanitarian aid operators. The purpose of the requested maps is to provide comprehensive knowledge of the territoryand assets in disaster risk reduction contexts.

No restrictions on the publication of the mapping applyDelivery formats are GeoTIFF, GeoPDF, GeoJPG and vectors (GDB and KML formats).
