The recruitment of new board members for cultural institutions is done in close co-operation with cultural and non-profit institutions. Suitable candidates must have proficient knowledge in matters of finance, management, marketing and legal affairs as well as other specific sectors. Individuals must go through an intensive selection procedure before being admitted to the training programme. The training is almost free of charge and consists of three modules: facts and background information on cultural institutions; field case work; and visits to a number of cultural institutions.Lessons to be Learned:The ATANA programme is an attempt to embrace the changes in Dutch society with its constantly growing share of citizens with a migrant background and to make use of their background and differing networks to enrich the management of cultural institutions. The measure is seen as a step towards diversifying Dutch mainstream culture.
