• Intel Corporation is an American global
technology company and the world's largest
semiconductor chip maker.
• Intel was founded on July 18, 1968, as Integrated
Electronics Corporation and based in Santa Clara,
California, USA
• Founded by semiconductor pioneers Robert Noyce
and Gordon Moore and widely associated with the
executive leadership and vision of Andrew Grove.
• Moore and Noyce initially wanted to name the
company "Moore Noyce". The name, however, was
a homophone for "more noise" – an ill-suited name
for an electronics company.
• A common misconception is that "Intel" is from the
word intelligence).
• Instead they used the name NM Electronics for
almost a year, before deciding to call their
company Integrated Electronics or "Intel" for
short.
• Intel combines advanced chip design capability
with a leading-edge manufacturing capability.
Originally known primarily to engineers and
technologists, Intel's "Intel Inside" advertising
campaign of the 1990s made it and its Pentium
processor household names.
• Products and Services: Microprocessors,
Classmate PC, Mobile Processors, server chips
• NEW CAPITAL INVESTMENT: Brazil, China,
Germany, India, Israel, Malaysia, the
Netherlands, Russia, Taiwan, Ukraine and the
United States.
• COMPETITORS: AMD (Advanced Micro
Devices), Samsung, Texas Instruments,
Toshiba and STMicroelectronics.
Looking after 80,000 employees in 28
countries worldwide is no easy task. An
HR will play an important part in finding
and keeping the right people and
making Intel a great place to work.
A place where employees "trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do, and enjoy the people they work with" - is the idea that a great workplace is measured by the quality of the three, interconnected relationships that exist there:
• The relationship between employees and management.
• The relationship between employees and their jobs/company.
• The relationship between employees and other employees.
Intel's comprehensive package: Provides
financial rewards based on individual
performance;
Shares the company's financial success with
employees; and,
Provides employees with a range of health care,
insurance coverage, paid leave and employee
development opportunities.

In 2005/2006 Intel fell off the Fortune’s list of the Best Companies to Work For, In 2007, Intel experienced the highest turnover highest in 8 years. There was a loss of trust and morale was low.
The employees thought that management was not listening nor did they really believe that Intel was changing for the better. They thought that the “I” in Intel did not matter to the company.
• A program of “little things” that showed
that the firm cared was started. There was
a concerted effort to create
communications that were meaningful
and personal, to eliminate corporate
jargon and acronyms.
• This led to a brilliant success. Intel was
back on the list of the Best Companies to
Work For. In 2010, it placed #52.
Intel IT is implementing an enterprise-wide social computing strategy with the goal of transforming collaboration across Intel and addressing key business challenges.
The architecture combines professional networking with social media tools such as wikis and blogs.
This provides employees to find relevant information and expertise more quickly; increasing interactive collaboration across the enterprise, breaking down silos; spurring radical innovation; attracting and retaining employees; and capturing the tacit knowledge of existing employees
• They have a very robust volunteer program
called Intel Involved which is managed by our
corporate affairs group. H.R. plays a crucial
support role in that as well.
For example, two years ago they rolled
out an initiative for our 40th anniversary to log
one million volunteer hours at local schools
instead of throwing a party or giving people
key chains. Our previous goal had been about
500,000 hours.
• They have a green.intel.com site and internal community where employees can share ideas on sustainability projects and initiatives. This leads to increased communication.
• They are working with other companies on key issues like the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition to address supply chain responsibility and the issue of conflict minerals.
