Purpose and Objectives of the LandCare Conditional Grant
• The LandCare Conditional Grant as implemented by the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) focuses on restoring and managing natural resources, and creating jobs through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).
• The LandCare Conditional Grant constitutes 36% of the GDARD EPWP operational budget for 2011/2012 and is implemented by the Sustainable Resource Management Component.

• The objectives of the GDARD SRM Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) are to create jobs for women, the youth, disabled, men and develop skills & promote human development from the environment for the environment through:
o Creating jobs for women, the youth, disabled, men;o Skills transfer;o Alien vegetation eradication;o Wetland rehabilitation;o Combat soil degradation;o Fire management; ando River clean-up.

Conclusion
• Gauteng does not have a specific LandCare programme supporting farmers - The LandCare Conditional Grant in Gauteng is used in the Sustainable Resource Management Programme to implement Environmental Sector Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) projects in support of the green economy and rural development
• The Gauteng LandCare Conditional Grant is spent 100% annually to plan – additional allocations are requested
