BOWLSWITH the pennants competition suspendedover the Easter break, the only bowls lastweek were of a social nature. LastThursday there were 30 participants inseven matches. Scores were high and 20points were required for the top prize. RaySmith and Barry Wade had a 31 to 13 winover Charlie Faulkner and Gary Spokes. In the runners-up position were Mark Tulland Bob Jones with their 17-point and 13-shot winning margin over Steve Howlettand Peter Jones. Two other teams managed 17 points but had smaller winningmargins. Bob Crittenden and Lu Urbydefeated Barry Peacock and Don Sutcliffeby 12 shots and Peter Green and GordonPritchard beat John West and SteveHiggins 23 to 14. Ron Stepto and TerryHiggins beat Terry Davies and WayneGroves by six shots and Harry Cox, FrankWells and Kevin Burley defeated JoeHolstein, Nico Duynhoven and EricLatimore. Kevin Everett and Terry Carsonsnared 14 points for their six-shot win overTony Tersteeg and Paul Sutton. OnSaturday only 10 players fronted up and

two matches went ahead. Peter Green, VicHebblewhite and Bob Charman defeatedTerry Higgins, Terry Davies and NicoDuynhoven by a score of 25 shots to 12. In the second match Clive Redman andSteve Howlett went down to Barry Wadeand John West by 23 shots to 18. Thisweekend the pennants competition springsback to life when the grade two team visitsTaree Leagues Club and the grade fiveteams host the same opposition. This is atop of the table clash and is a must win forGloucester if there is to be any chance of atop place finish. Matches start at 1pmsharp. The major singles semi finals havehad to be postponed with a host ofManning district competitions involving clubmembers. The singles and the final of themen’s fours will be played at a future timeand date to be decided.LadiesTHE Gloucester Women’s Bowling Clubnumber three pennants team suffered anarrow loss against Forster in a play-off atthe Taree Leagues Club last Wednesday.Only eight ladies contested social bowlslast week. The winners were Jan Griffithand Pirjo Maurer. The raffle winners were

GOLFGLOUCESTER Golf Club members contested a stableford event on Saturday,April 19. The event was sponsored byGarners Home Hardware. The winner in Agrade was L Wilson with 38 points. The Bgrade winner was Brian Osborne with 39and the C grade winner was JohnBarraclough with 36. The ball comp winnerswere B Osborne 39, L Wilson 38, JBarraclough 36, B Peacock 36, WMaddalena 35, K Whitby 35, K Cross 35, ABesr 35, M Coglan 34. The A grade NTPwinner was S Crichton. B Osborne won theB grade NTP while the C grade winner wasP Garland. The second shot winner was CPeacock. Nathan McInnes holed an eagleon the 17th. The C grade captain’s longdrive winner was G Kemp and the stayer’saward went to B Redman. The Gloucester

Coal super sevens winners were G Hesford20, W Radford 18, C Pritchard 18, JBarraclough 17, R O’Brien 17, P Blanch 16,P Blanch 16. The first Deros match must becompleted by May 24. This week’s event isa stableford sponsored by Roadies Café. Sunday, April 27 is the Rotary charity day.Interested players can contact ChrisPritchard.VeteransGLOUCESTER Veterans Golf Club hosted36 visitors from Beresfield last week. A totalof 25 locals played in an individual stableford competition sponsored by BillHunter and Keith Caldwell. The winner wasBill Norris with a commendable score of 35.Runners-up and ball winners were JohnHerd with 34 points, followed by Terry Cox(33), Bert Newman, Bruce Fraser and BillMurray (32) and Chris Pritchard (30). TheNTP winner was Bruce Fraser and the stayer’s award went to birthday boy RegO’Brien. Special thanks to David Hjorth, JimDunn and Bruce Fraser for cooking thelunch for the visitors. Next week’s competition will be a three-person aggregate stableford with an individualcompetition in conjunction.

A COUPLE of showers saw theumbrellas go up last Wednesday, butit did not deter the 15 ladies whocontested the second monthly medalat Gloucester Golf Club.

The event was sponsored bySandra and Ricky Lawler.

Evelyn Blanch returned to form towin with 32 points.

Jenny Burley was second with 31,beating Debbie Wilson on a count-back. The ball winners were LornaTaylor, Cheryl Goodrich and EffieCrawley.

NTP on the fourth and 13th wasVal Smith who chipped in for two.

The division one NTP winner on

the sixth and 15th was Val Smith andthe division two winner was DebbieWilson.

President Jill handed a cheque for$4000 to club president Ann Mullenon behalf of members to assist in thepurchase of two new tills.

The new tills will be of great helpto the staff and running of the club.

Members are looking forward to alot of fun with a visit from membersof the bowls, tennis and croquetclubs on Friday, June 6.

Treasurer Shirley has been flownback to Newcastle and was pleasedto see some visitors.

She will be happier still when she

gets back to Gloucester. As therewere quite a few players away onWednesday, April 9 the program waschanged to a stableford.

There were 10 players and bothGai Randall and Cheryl Goodrichfinished on 31 points with Gai win-ning on a countback.

Balls went to Jill Carson on 28points, Evelyn Blanch on 25 and ACravino with 25. The NTP winner onthe fourth and 13th was E Blanch.

The division one winner on thesixth and 15th was G Randall.

There is a sheet up for players keento contest the Rotary four-personambrose on Sunday, April 27.

KRAMBACH Race Club’sGloucester Cup meet will beheld at the Taree WinghamRacecourse next Tuesday,April 29. The seven-race TABmeet always draws a largecrowd with the feature event,the Gooch AgenciesGloucester Cup, to be runover 1250m.

Casey Gooch from GoochAgencies said the business

had been sponsoring the racemeet for the past five years.

“It’s a great day out foreveryone,” she said.

“It’s a good opportunity toget dressed up, let your hairdown and catch up with peo-ple you might not have seenfor a while.”

Newcombe’s will run a busservice from Gloucester tothe racecourse for the meet.
