We are preparing for a long weekend and hope you have plans to enjoy some time together. We have come to the end of a dream basketball season with all TCS teams demonstrating admirable courage, phenomenal talent and exemplary sportsmanship! We know this season's prizes are the result of consistent teamwork exercised by the devoted coaches, eager and cooperative players and supportive parents. It takes all of us to do our part by volunteering, encouraging and supporting in any way we can. Our community is admired by other schools for our commitment and consistent support! Congrats to all who stand by our teams (Varsity Basketball
Tournament is still in progress) and help create another moment for our teens to remember forever! Stay involved for the upcoming team sports forming now! This is the time that some of our teens decide to "test" whether their success is theirs or ours/yours. Of course, most students at TCS value the success they have created and are continuing to put their best foot forward. But others, still unsure of their own skills and abilities, begin to slack off thinking they have been "carried" and exert less effort. Part of this can be attributed to "wishful thinking" because holding yourself accountable every day is hard work. But a good portion of this back sliding is due to their deep distrust of their own ability to be successful. They give themselves permission to not meet the standards set and very quickly feel the pressure of goals missed and opportunities lost. This is a vulnerable time for those of us surrounding them with support. We have to be sure to gently but clearly let them experience the disappointment their choices are creating. We cannot step in to rescue them or we will begin to reenact the old patterns that created their dependence and self-doubt. Do not worry. We will not let them crash and burn, but they will be uncomfortable. Some may be angry that no one is "taking care of them" while others pick up the pace and regain their equilibrium. This is all part of the learning process. The more we communicate and continue to hold our teens responsible for their choices, the faster the lessons are learned. I truly love this seasonal celebration of Love! Of course we all should be letting people around us know how important they are and we rarely do, but this time is a special time to address those we care about. When you are a part of a school community, the number of people you love is HUGE!!!! For me, it is impossible to let them all know on just one day! Let’s start with the staff. That incredible team that puts their needs aside to assist, guide, nurture, teach and inspire our students every minute of every day! From there I go to our parents who have sacrificed beyond comprehension for their children…all of their children, and still find the energy to give these precious teens what they need, as well. Seeing the smiles of the parents who come in to take care of business every day, hearing the stories of success and pride, reading their notes of concern or suggestions…all of this endears them to me…every year! Then I turn to these incredible teens who steal your heart and then hold it for ransom until long after they graduate! When I think of the resilience, courage, creativity, compassion and determination that our kids demonstrate every day, I am in awe. A few hearts and flowers just aren’t enough!

TCS Golf
Team Information
We are very excited about your interest in the Cottage School Golf
Team. There are some things you and your parents will need to know
before you get started
1. Our season is scheduled to begin with practices on February 19th.
a. Practices will be held at Steel Canyon Golf Course Tuesday through Friday and pickup will be
at The Cottage School at 6:00 PM (alternative arrangements can be made if necessary).
b. Home matches will also be held at Steel Canyon; however, adjusted pickup times for those
dates will be listed in the season schedule. Match schedule is available on the TCS website at
http://cottageschool.org/school/?page_id=1996.
2. There is a cost associated with participating in this sport.
a. Students qualifying for the team will need to pay a one-time fee of $250. This cost covers TCS
sports fees, greens fees, and entry fees for all tournaments throughout the season.
b. Students will need to furnish their own equipment. This will consist of clubs, gloves,
appropriate footwear, tees, balls, and team shirt.
3. Because of the nature of golf as a high school sport, the team may consist of only seven players. In
the event that there is an extraordinary amount of interest, it may be necessary to hold a
performance assessment to establish our team roster.
a. Team selection will be based on a number of factors
i. Existing skill and understanding of the game
ii. Availability to participate in practice and competition
iii. Apparent potential
iv. Conduct on the course
We look forward to having you as a part of our Cougar Golf Team and we are very excited about the
upcoming season. If you have any questions, please contact me, James Prentice, during the school day. I
am available by e-mail [email protected] or my school phone number (770)-641-8688 ext. #5122.
