AAC Varsity Tournament Action at TCS - February 12th, 14th and 15th
Parents: Students will have come home with a letter and survey regarding the E-rate
program. Due to the nature of the survey, it could not be sent via email. If you did not receive it from your student, please ask for it or check the backpacks. There is a deadline for the return of the paper version of the survey by this Friday, February 7th, in order for The Cottage School to determine our eligibility for participation in this program. We apologize for the short notice on this and we appreciate your participation. All families are expected to participate in this completely confidential survey that can potentially save the school thousands of dollars a year enabling us to add to our campus technology.

What a week! First let me express my sincere regret for the extremely difficult situation on Tuesday afternoon due to the quickly freezing roads and traffic snarls. We had a plan that, in any other case, would have resulted in everyone arriving home safe and sound. However, the situation quickly spiraled out of our control and we know that many of you, as well as our staff, were caught in a nightmare! Untold gratitude goes to those families who drove students home or took them home with them for the evening. We cannot begin to express our appreciation for the staff members who stayed with our stranded students all night. They did not hesitate to volunteer to stay at school and they worked as a team to feed, comfort and entertain the teens. In addition, they were joined by several parents and grandparents who, once they arrived on campus, thought it unwise to strike out in the frigid darkness. All were safely on their way by early afternoon on Wednesday. Ivan walked to the Shell station to get snacks early Wednesday morning and Lyle spent his Thursday restocking the concession stand for the anticipated Senior Night. In all the conversation we had during the ordeal, I never heard one complaint or negative word. The staff was intent on making the best of an impossible situation. One said “we’ll just have a lock-in!” We also appreciate all the words of encouragement and appreciation from families this week. Several indicated that they knew their students were well taken care of and did not worry at all. Others offered words of thanks to the families who went out of their way to provide rides and relief. The trusting and nurturing community that is TCS came together immediately and weathered the storm as best we could. We will be acknowledging our dedicated staff in a few special ways this week but if you have suggestions please get them to Bob Crenshaw, our CFO. We hated to reschedule Senior Night as I know so many of you were looking forward to it. It has been rescheduled for Monday, February 10th, and we promise the same celebratory event we originally planned. Life for our Seniors is really picking up speed as more and more receive their acceptances to the schools of their choice. Our counseling office is beginning visits for underclassmen this semester so we will be well on the way for the next generation of successful graduates. We are one of the few schools who provide the structure and guidance needed for a less stressful launch from high school to the next step! I can’t imagine doing it any other way! This is my chance to encourage all of you, middle school and underclassmen parents, to come to graduation to see the “rest of the story”. Our students often do not take a straight trajectory to success, but when they reach their goal, it is spectacular!!

2014 AAC BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
GUIDELINES @ TCS
Teams defeated on 2/12/14 are eliminated from Tournament. Teams defeated on 2/14/14 will
still play on 2/15/14 for the third place trophy.
On Wednesday (2/12), #4 seed girls will open tournament vs. #5 seed at 3:00 P.M. The #4
vs. #5 seed boys will follow at 4:30. At 6:00 the #3 seed girls will play the #6 seed capped
off with the #3 vs. #6 seed boys game at 7:30 P.M.
On Friday (2/14), #1 seed girls will play winner of #4 vs. #5 seed at 3:00 P.M. #1 seed boys
will play winner of #4 vs. #5 seed at 4:30 P.M. #2 seed girls will play winner of #3 vs. #6
seed at 6:00 P.M. #2 seed boys will play winner of #3 vs. #6 seed at 7:30 P.M.
On Saturday (2/15), the consolation games will begin at 1:00 P.M., starting with the girls;
boys will follow at 2:30 P.M. The championship games will begin with the girls at 4:00
P.M. and the boys will follow at 5:30 P.M.
All schools should arrive at The Cougar Center 30 minutes prior to their start time and all
games will start at the scheduled time unless a game runs longer than expected.
Schools must be ready to play 15 minutes after the end of the previous game. If a school is
not present within that 15 minute time, they will forfeit their game.
If a game runs late the 15 minute forfeit time will begin immediately following that game.
TCS will provide playoff labeled basketballs for warm up. Please place back on rack.
Parking is provided on the TCS campus in designated parking lots. Remind fans not to park
on driveway or lawn at gym entrance.
Buses need to be parked in the spots provided past the gym, on left alongside silver fence.
Admission is $3.00 for children and $5.00 for adults. Concessions will be available
throughout tournament. Hot dogs, popcorn, snacks, and drinks sold.
AAC 25th
Anniversary Playoff Mugs will be on sale for $10.00. Free refills on coffee and
sports Gatorade after first purchase.
There will be a designated hospitality room provided for all coaches and officials only.
There is no need for teams to bring water coolers. Each bench will be provided a water
cooler. Bottles are recommended.
Teams will have classroom space labeled. Top seed wears white. Coaches, please keep your
players supervised; wandering the campus is not an option. A Roswell police officer will be
on duty.
