THE WISHING WELL HAS
MOVED! As planned, the Wishing Well
has now moved from its
draughty corridor near the
doors to the Fareham Shopping
Centre. It now occupies a
prime spot much nearer to the
central hub, where it will bene-
fit from a heavier footfall.
The move actually made it into
the News, in the form of an
article written and submitted
by George Cantrill.
Our chosen charity for the next
few months is ‘Hearing Dogs
for Deaf People’ and this mes-
sage
is displayed on the banner
above the well.
A small ceremony was held to
inaugurate the new siting of
the Well, attended by Centre
Manager Pam Marsden, Presi-
dent Linda, President Elect
Duncan Colin-Jones, together
with representatives of the
Hearing Dogs for the Deaf
charity. Our principle liaison
officer for the project was
George Cantrill, who, despite
having had a recent operation
on his foot, managed to hobble
around and ‘get things organ-
ised for the event.
Incidentally Gary and I emp-
tied the Well last week, and
banked £137.30.

ard, Diana Rogers of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, with trainee puppy

OUR CONGRATULATIONS
TO ERNIE AND ENID.
On 24th
April 2012 PP Ernie
Crouch and Enid celebrated
their 64th
wedding anniversary.
What a marvellous achieve-
ment.
The wedding ceremony took
place in Trincomalee, Ceylon,
(Sri Lanka) in 1938, far from
their family and relations. So
the Navy came to the rescue
and assisted in many ways.
Ernie says-
‘Neither of us had family any-
where handy for a wedding in
Ceylon, but the Navy did us
proud. That's the Captain and
his wife of HMS Highflyer, the
Surgeon Captain and the Ma-
tron of RNH Trincomalee and
the VAD Commandant. She
was "Mum" for the occasion,
laying on the wedding 'break-
fast' and a three tier cake. I was
C in C's staff but the Admiral
only sent his Flag Lieutenant.
He provided all the transport
and lent his staff car for the
bride.’
Certainly the Navy seem to
have done a very good, and a
permanent job! A model cou-
ple, Ernie & Enid have been
great grand-parents for the past
nineteen years!
________________________ Ernie tells me that a marriage
licence in Ceylon in 1948 cost
him 5 rupees – I reckon he
got a good bargain!
Here’s wishing them both
many more happy years to-
gether. Dave

ing:
Dear Linda,
I was delighted to receive your
wonderful cheque for £1200 in
support of the Rainbow Centre.
It is a very substantial amount
and will make a significant
difference to us. Fareham Ro-
tary’s support over the years is
highly valued; your members
have watched the organisation
grow over 21 years from help-
ing just a handful of children
to supporting nearly 90 fami-
lies, both adults and children. I
would like to thank you for giv-
ing me the opportunity to speak
to your members and wish you
well in the future.
Thank you so much for choos-
ing us for your support.
With best wishes

The ‘Bathtub Test’ During a visit to my doctor, I
asked him, how do you deter-
mine whether or not an older
person should be put in an old
age home?"
"Well,” he said, "We fill up a
bathtub, then we offer a tea-
spoon, a teacup or a bucket to
the person, to empty the bath-
tub."
"Oh, I understand," I said. "A
normal person would use the
bucket, because it is bigger
than the spoon or the teacup."
"No," he said. "A normal per-
son would pull the plug. Do
you want a bed near the win-
dow?"
Thanks to Chris Thomas.
