Cybercraft // Gyrochain
The aim of my project was to create a digitally manufactured product which would have an instilled meaning.
The designs are to be sold at a craft hatch market for sale. After viewing what Craft victoria had on sale and what style to go for, i decided to look into Rapid Prototyping as my digital manufacturing method and design something which takes advantage of it, creating something very geometrically complex.
My Gift is called the GyroChain and it symbolizes the continuation of freindship through all the hardships of life

CyberCraft // Approach
Approach to Design:
- Design Aware
- What can Rapid prototyping bring to accessory design
- Expressing the Design as craft
-Make something unique and conceptual
-As creative as possible
How:
Utilize RP in a unique way
Utilize technology to create something which
cannot be done via any other method of craft

CyberCraft // Craft QualitiesRapid prototyping is being used in most industrial sectors around the world due to its capability to rapid visualize products. Some of the quali-ties of the craft include:
-Fabricated on the spot
-Building very rapidly a physical object
-Very Intricate structure which can be impossible to build with other craft methods
-Unique Craft
-No Manual labour needed
-Easy to create and re-iterate one the one off design

CyberCraft // Final Concept - Gyroscope KeyChain
Behind the Design:
Why A Gyroscope?
A gyroscope is a symbol of many things. The keyring will be a great gift to anyone be-cause it represents 3 major things:
POWER: Symbolizes the power of our friendships in our relationships. To show how much they mean to you and the joy they bring to your life.
POISE
Demonstrates the steadiness of friendship in times of trial. To show a friend or family member to let them know you are here for them
PURPOSE: Keeps the balance wheel of friendship in their lives.

CyberCraft // Key Chain Design
I originally ordered some keychains from Hong Kong which looked too
tacky and did not fit the style
of craft victoria. Craft victoria has a “Hand made” feel to nearly all
their products, so i purchased jewel-lery materials and decided to make
my own
All products are coloured brass to contrast with the illuminide which the key will be made of
Brass ringlet used to connect different parts of the chain
brass key hook used to attach key ring to a set of keys of a hook
Brass chain gives length and chains the key hook to the key

CyberCraft // Key Chain Finished
The key chain is composed of 3 individual parts. A key hook allows the key chain to hook
onto a set of keys or hook, the chain connects the “Key” from the “Hook” and the ring
lets connect it all together. This looks much better than an im-ported product because it is hand made as has the “Craft Victoria Feel” which is what i
was looking for
Maintains original form of key chain design but made by
hand instead of imported

I got my products 3D printed from shapeways. It was the cheapest and quickest method to print and i was able to get the finish i wanted and the quality i was going for.
Shape ways was able to print 10 of my models out of aluminide which is a strong metal material melted down and used to print layer upon layer.
I was able to get a consistant symmet-rical shape and there was no bowing or warping in the final product.

CyberCraft // Material - Aluminide
Aluminide is a compound that hasaluminium with more electropositive elements. It is a compound of a met-al alloy and an ionic compund which makes it very strong and stable to print out of. the advantages of aluminide are:
Very strong and stable
Does not warp or bow during print
Excellent textured finish
Can print in very high detail
I am very happy with the finish of my product and the aluminide contrasts very well with the bbrass key chains i made by hand
