JAMMU, Sept 15: A youthtoday died of electrocution inNarwal area of city outskirts afterwhich people staged a protestagainst Power DevelopmentDepartment (PDD).

According to a police official,a youth namely Suresh Kumarson of late Dev Raj, resident ofNarwal Bye Pass, died of electro-cution near his residence, thismorning, when he came in con-tact with a electric pole, in whichthe current was passing.

Alleging negligence by thePDD, the family members andneighbours of the deceased stageda protest. The protest continuedfor about 15-20 minutes duringwhich the protestors raised slo-gans against PDD.

The protestors alleged the elec-tric pole has claimed 2nd life, asearlier a goat had died after comingin contact with the pole. They said

that youth died only because ofnegligence of the PDD officials, asthey did not bother to rectify thefault due to which the current waspassing through the pole.

Meanwhile, former Ministerand senior Congress leaderRaman Bhalla also reached thespot and joined the protest. Hedemanded the PDD to pay com-pensation to the bereaved family,as the youth died due to sheernegligence of the PDD officials.

Later, when some higher offi-cials of PDD reached the spot andassured to pay compensation tothe bereaved family, the protestwas suspended.

Thereafter, the body of thedeceased was shifted toGovernment Medical College andHospital, Jammu, where aftercompleting all medico-legal for-malities, it was handed over to itslegal heirs for last rites. The policehad registered a case in this con-nection and started investigations.

Deputy Chief Minister, DrNirmal Singh kick started sanita-tion campaign "Swachhta HiSewa" from the banks of riverTawi organized by JammuMunicipal Corporation (JMC) incollaboration with district admin-istration to mark the 3rd anniver-sary of Swachh Bharat Mission onOctober 2. Legislator, RajeshGupta, Divisional CommissionerJammu, Dr MK Bhandari,Commissioner JMC, M Raju,Deputy Commissioner, KumarRajeev Ranjan besides officers ofJMC, police and civil administra-tion, members of civil society, civildefense, representatives of TawiAndolan, students and a largenumber of volunteers were alsopresent on the occasion.

As part of the nation-widecleanliness drive, MP NazirAhmad Laway launched thecleanliness drive "Swachhta HiSewa" from Mini SecretariatKulgam. He was accompanied bythe Deputy Commissioner,Kulgam, Talat Parvez Rohella andother district officers. On the occa-sion, DC Kulgam constituted 5teams headed by ADDC, ADC,ACR, ACD and Xen PDD whoundertook sanitation drives in dif-ferent areas.

Minister of State forEducation, Technical Education,Culture, Tourism, Horticulture,Floriculture and Parks, Priya Sethikick started "Swachhta Hi Seva"campaign, being organized by theDepartment of Floriculture. InJammu District various parks havebeen identified for the cleanlinessdrive. Minister for Public HealthEngineering (PHE), Irrigation andFlood Control (I&FC) Sham LalChoudhary inaugurated"Swachhta Hi Sewa" campaign inKashmir. Minister of State for Hajand Auqaf, PHE and Irrigation andFlood Control, Syed FarooqAhmad Andrabi was also presenton the occasion. Secretary PHE,I&FC Saurabh Bhagat, ChiefEngineer PHE Kashmir GM Bhat,Chief Engineer PHE Jammu AKGandotra, Chief Engineer I&FC PJammu N Bali, officers andemployees of the departmentswere also present of the occasion.

Minister of State for Housingand Urban Development, AsieaNaqash launched Lakes andWaterways DevelopmentAuthority's (LAWDA) specialdrive for de-weeding of macro-phyte weeds and solid waste col-lection from Dal and Nigeen lakesas part of the "Swachhta Hi Sewa"campaign. The drive was kick started atDistrict Headquarters Rajouri bythe Vice Chairman of AdvisoryBoard for Pahari Speaking People,Kuldeep Raj Gupta and DistrictDevelopment Commissioner DrShahid Iqbal Choudhary in pres-ence of SSP Yougal Manhas.Similar drives were also initiatedin all subdivisions of the district byrespective sub-divisional adminis-trations.

Later a rally ofabout 300 school children for"Green India clean India mydream India, Clean India move-ment" was flagged off by the DDCKishtwar.

Sanitation campaign "Swac-hhta Hi Sewa" was launched in thepremises of administrative com-plex of DC Pooonch office.ADDC Abdul Hamied, ADC DrBashrat Hussain, ACR Ashraf,Joint Director Education, DPOPoonch Dr Majid Jahangir, EOMunicipality, Chief EducationOfficer, principals and schoolschildren were present on the occa-sion. A series of activities wereorganized across the district Reasiunder Nation Wide SanitationCampaign "Swachhta Hi Sewa"which was launched by ADDCRamesh Chander from districtadministrative complex. TehsildarMahore Munshi Ram led hugegathering of employees and localpeople removed heaps of wastepapers and garbage dumps besidestaking round of the main bazaar tocollect the garbage in dustbins.The Pouni Tehsil also witnessedscores of events. Similar activitieswere organized at Tehsils Arnas,Thakrakote, Bhomag, Thuroo, etc.

"Swachhta Hi Sewa" cam-paign was launched by DistrictAdministration Udhampur underthe supervision of DeputyCommissioner Udhampur. A largenumber of students ofGovernment and privateInstitutions of Udhampur partici-pated in the campaign.

"Swachhta Hi Sewa" campaignwas launched by MLA Samba DrDevinder Kumar Manyal in hisadopted Model Higher SecondarySchool (Boys), Samba. On theoccasion, MLA apprised the gath-ering about the need of cleanliness.The campaign was launched underthe supervision of ANO CaptSanjeev Jamwal and Khem Raj,wherein NCC cadets of the school,CEO, DEPO Samba, PrincipalArvin Kumar, Vice Principal

Renuka Nagwal, KulbhushanSingh, Pavinder Singh and manyothers were present.

Tehsildar Bishnah launched"Swachhta Hi Sewa" campaignalong with senior citizens atBishnah. On the occasion,Tehsildar apprised the people andstudents about the need of cleanli-ness and hygiene.

In South Kashmir, DIG, SouthKashmir Range SP Pani led itsstaff in cleaning the area in andaround the DIG office while asSSP Anantnag Altaf Ahmad Khanstarted the sanitation campaignfrom his office and visited manypolice stations and offices tosupervise the campaign. ASPPulwama, Chandan Kohli andDySP DAR Pulwama, DivenderSingh led the police official toclear the area in and around theDistrict Police Lines and DPOPulwama. In Awnatipora, the drivewas started under the supervisionof SSP Awantipora, Mohd Zaid,while SSP Kulgam, Shridhar Patilled the jawans and officers underhis command to clear the garbageand around DPO Kulgam andDLP Kulgam. In Shopian, thedrive started at DPL Shopian inwhich senior officers and officialof the district under the supervi-sion of SSP Shopian AmbarkarShriram Dinkar participated.

In Central Kashmir's SrinagarDistrict, the drive started under thesupervision of DySP DAR atDistrict Police Lines Srinagar andDPO Srinagar and in Ganderbal,the drive started at DPOGanderbal under the supervisionof SSP Ganderbal. Fayaz AhmadLone who was also accompaniedby other senior officer of the dis-trict. In Budgam, the drive startedat DPO Budgam under the super-vision of SSP Budgam TejinderSingh. In Leh, the drive was super-vised by SSP Leh Udaya BhaskarBilla. T Gyalpo, SSP Kargil along-with Ishtiyaq Ahmad Kachoo,DySP Hqrs Kargil started the cam-paign in the district.

In North Kashmir, SSPBaramulla Imtiyaz Hussain Mirled the officers and official of thedistrict and started the cleaning atDPO Baramulla and also visitedother police establishments of thedistrict and took stock of the drive.In Sopore, the drive was launchedby SSP Sopore Harmeet SinghMehta and in Handwara, GhulamGeelani SSP Handwara led thesanitation campaign. InBandipora, Sheikh Zulfikar AzadSSP Bandipora supervised thecampaign. The sanitization drivein Kupwara was led by ShamsherHussain, SSP Kupwara.

In Police Control Room,Kashmir (PCR) and in PoliceControl Room, Jammu the cam-paign was started by SuhailMunawar Mir and Joginder Singhrespectively.

Shailender Singh, Comma-ndant of AP 9th and Abdul RashidBhat Commandant IRP 20thBattalion led and supervised theirmen in clearing the garbage andother wasted material in ArmedPolice Complex Zewan andParihaspora, Pattan respectively.

In Jammu, the campaign waslaunched by Sunil Gupta, SSPJammu, in Samba, Anil Magotra,SSP Samba led the campaign ofcleanliness from the DistrictHospital Samba in which otherpolice officers and officials partic-ipated. In Kathua the drive waslaunched by SSP KathuaMohammad Suleman Choudhary.

In Udhampur, RayeesMohammad Bhat, SSP Udhampur

supervised the officers and jawansduring the drive and in Reasi, thesanitation drive was launched andsupervised by SSP Reasi TahirSajad Bhat.

In Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban,Mohammad Shabir, SSP Doda,Mohan Lal, SSP Ramban andAbrar Ahmad, SSP Kishtwar start-ed the campaign in their respectivedistricts.

In Poonch, SSP Rajiv Pandeyalong with Additional SP MasroorMir and DySP DAR MohanSharma launched the campaign,whereas in Rajouri, the campaignwas started by Yougal Manhas,SSP Rajouri.

Besides, the drive continuedthroughout the day in all the policestations and police posts and otherpolice establishments acrossJammu and Kashmir includingSKPA Udhampur and other PoliceTrainings Schools.

The fifteen-days long"Swachhta Pakhwada" culminat-ed at the University of Jammuwith an elaborate programmeorganized by Department ofStudents Welfare, University ofJammu. Prof Keshav Sharma,Dean Academic Affairs was thechief guest on the occasion. Inthis regard, a day-wise action planfor Swachhta Pakhwada for fif-teen days was undertaken byDepartment of Students Welfare,University of Jammu with activesupport from UniversityAuthorities, All the TeachingDepartments, University HealthCentre, PROVOST (Boys &Girls), Campus NSS Units,Teachers, Staff & most important-ly zestful participation ofStudents and Scholars of theUniversity of Jammu. Earlier,Prof Satnam Kour presented thewelcome address. On the culmi-nation, a Swachhta song com-posed by Suraj Singh was pre-sented by the students fromInstitute of Music and Fine Arts.A skit "Safai Hum Karenge" spe-cially prepared for the occasionand written and directed bySumeet Sharma, DramaInstructor was also featured. NCC Unit (Girls Wing) ofGovernment Degree CollegeBishnah organized a seminar on'Swacchta Abhiyan" so as to inau-gurate 'Swachhta Hi Sewa'Pakhwada. Prof KS Koushal,Principal of the college was thechief guest. The programme wasorganized under the supervision ofProf Preeti Dogra, Incharge NCCUnit along with Prof PriyankaMahajan. NCC cadets presentedtheir views on 'Swachhta Hi Sewa'campaign.

15-days long Swachh BharatPakhwada organised by KV No 2Akhnoor concluded. Principal ofthe institution Didar Singhapprised the students about clean-liness, hygiene and sanitation. Allstudents and staff whole-heartedlyparticipated and endeavoured toclean the premises. During 15-days long programme, variousprogrammes were held.

The 15-days long SwachhtaPakhwada concluded at KVNagrota. While speaking,Principal Anuj Kumar laid stressupon the cleanliness of hones, sur-roundings, city, schools and publicplaces. The teachers and studentsparticipated in different activities.Plays, lectures, debates and paint-ing competitions were also organ-ised.

The NCC Unit of GLDMDegree College, Hiranagar cele-brated the "Swachhta Hi SewaPakhwada". In the event, the NCCcadets carried out a cleanlinessdrive in the college premises. Theevent begins with the address bythe Principal of the College DrNaresh Kumar Gupta. The eventwas supervised by the ANO of theCollege Dr Virender Pal Singh.The whole event was carried outunder the guidance of Col RajMohan Singh, Co Ist J&K ArmedSqn NCC Jammu.

JAMMU, Sept 15: Courageand bravery displayed by a boylead to the arrest of the thief.

As per official spokesman, aboy namely Babbu Ram, son ofBabu Ram, a resident of MawaBrahmana noticeda suspect personand informed thepolice.

After gettinginformation, a teamfrom Talab TilloPolice Post rushedto the spot and dur-ing enquiry, it cameto fore that the sus-pect was a thief andarrested him.

Artificial jew-ellery, which hehad stolen onSeptember 13 fromthe house of Meenakshi Dhar ofBharat Nagar was recoveredfrom the possession of the thief.

The arrested person has beenidentified as Sourab Kumar aliasRicky, son of Kala, a resident of

Taragarh Pathankote, at presentMalik Market Jammu.

A case under FIR Number128/17 under Section 454 and380 RPC has been registered atNowabad Police Station andinvestigation started to ascertainthe involvement of the arrested

LEH, Sept 15: District Magi-strate (DM) Avny Lavasa todayissued an order restricting socialmedia administrators from sharingirresponsible messages which canhurt religious sentiments.

The order reads thatGovernment employees servingin the district are directed torefrain from making any com-ments/remarks or associating withactivities that may cause commu-nal tension. Any violation of theinstruction will lead to strictaction under relevant provisionsof the information TechnologyAct and RPC and any other rele-vant provisions of law.

Earlier in the day, the DMcalled a meeting with religiousheads to ease the ongoing commu-nal tension in the Ladakh region.The meeting was attended byLadakh Buddhist Association(LBA), Anjuman Moin-Ul-Islam,Anjuman Imamiya, ChristianAssociation, Hindu TrustMahasabha and Sikh CommitteeMembers.

In the meeting all religioushead condemned the recent con-version case. LBA reportedlyasked for high level committee to

study in detail about the all theconversion cases in the past. It wasalso decided that LBA delegationwill meet Minority Commissionto appraise about discriminationwith the minority of Buddhist inthe State.

LBA also urged that parent orrelatives of Stanzin Saldon whoconverted to Muslim must beallowed to speak to the girl. Toavoid further conversion, LBAappeals to make special law in theState assembly and all religiousheads reportedly support thedemands.

JAMMU, Sept 15: TheNational Secular Forum (NSF)has demanded immediate consti-tution of search committee toselect new Vice Chancellors ofJammu and Kashmir Universitieswithout any further delay.

Addressing a press confer-ence, here today, NSF State presi-dent Dr Vikas Sharma said that toavoid speculations and confusionover extension to the incumbents,the State Government shouldorder constitution of search com-mittees so that new ViceChancellors could be appointed indue course of period.

“Following amendment inthe law, it is not compulsory to

extend tenure of the incumbentVice-Chancellors by two years,”he said while making referenceof Government amendment inthe Kashmir and JammuUniversities Act, 1969, mention-ing therein that in the sub-section(5) of section (12) of the Act, thewords “three years” shall be sub-stituted by the words “fiveyears.”

The already fixed tenure ofKashmir University Vice-Chancellor Prof Khurshid IqbalAndrabi is ending on October 17this year while that of Prof R DSharma, Vice-Chancellor JU isending in March 2018.

Missing youth found hanging Excelsior Correspondent

UDHAMPUR, Sept 15: A youth, missing for the last six days, wastoday found hanging from a tree in forest area at village Rakh Sansu,under the jurisdiction of Rehambal Police Station.

According to Police, Mohd Akhtar alias Munni (29), son of ShaiyaKhan of village Magani in Udhampur, was found hanging from a treein forest area under mysterious circumstances.

The body was spotted by some locals, who informed the Police,which shifted the dead body to District Hospital Udhampur for post-mortem and other legal formalities.

Rehambal Police has registered a case in this connection for furtherinvestigation.

The deceased was missing for the last six days.Meanwhile, two persons were injured in a collision of Motorcycle

with a Scooter near T Morh on the National Highway, here today.The injured were identified as Pardeep Kumar, son of Ashok

Kumar of Garhi and S C Gosh.
