English Translation:
A Dog and a Donkey 1. Long time ago a man had a dog and a
donkey. 2. In his life, the donkey had to work a lot.
Therefore the dog said to the donkey, "Let
us run away from here".
3. As the dog and the donkey were going
out of the village, the dog became very hungry.
4. The donkey had water to drink and grass
to eat, but the dog had nothing, so he
become very tired and laid down.
5. Then the donkey said, “Let me shout a
bit.”
6. The dog's advice was, "No, do not!
Someone may hear you and come and eat
us." 7. But the donkey did not listen and started
to shout.
27
8. As the dog had said, a hyena heard the
donkey and came.
9. The hyena attacked the donkey, killed it
and took it into the bush. 10.It happened that the hyena saw the dog
hiding. When the dog realized that the
hyena saw him, he started to say,
"Hmmhmm, hm."
11.The hyena told the dog, "Come and skin the donkey for me!"
12.While the dog skinned the donkey, he ate
the heart of the donkey even though the
hyena wanted it. When the hyena told
the dog to bring the heart, the dog
replied, "If the donkey had had a heart,
he would not have been killed.”

Amharic Translation:
