LEARNING SUPPORT PROGRAM The Learning Support Program provides assistance for students who are funded under the Commonwealth Guidelines. The program is coordinated by a staff member who arranges for Education Support Officers to work with these students to provide curriculum support. The Coordinator collates information about students with learning difficulties and relays this to the relevant staff. As resources allow, support is given where possible to students with learning difficulties for whom funding is not received. Support can be provided to individuals or to small groups. GIFTED & TALENTED PROGRAM The Cabra Gifted & Talented Program provides assistance for children who have been identified as gifted. Information is collected via school testing, teacher and parent questionnaires, teacher nomination, professional assessments and other strategies available to the school. The program is coordinated by a staff member, who passes relevant information to class teachers and promotes enrichment activities where possible. On occasions, students are withdrawn from classes to attend workshops that enable them to mix with others of like mind. These workshops may be run at Cabra or at other schools in our cluster of schools. Parents are informed if their child is chosen to part of these workshops. VOCATIONAL EDUCATION & TRAINING (VET) Like many other schools, Cabra provides courses for students which lead on to specific Vocational Pathways whilst still at school. That is, with most of the Pathways courses, it is possible not only to gain credit for the SACE unit but also to gain accreditation from TAFE and from the relevant Industries. Through this training that can happen at Cabra, TAFE, and other Registered Training Organisations (RTO) or in the work place, students learn practical, work related skills that can lead to a career in the future. VET students are able to remain at Cabra for most of the time; they can obtain their SACE, qualify for university entry and obtain VET qualifications all at once.
