ChildandMaternalHealth–NewResearchandPolicies”whichwillbeheldattheDobbsFerryCampusofMercyCollege,NY.ItissponsoredbytheResearchInfrastructureinMinorityInsDtuDons–CareerOpportuniDes inResearch (RIMI‐COR)TrainingProgramtoPromoteMinorityHealthfundedthroughagrantfromtheNIH‐ NaDonal InsDtute on Minority Health and Health DispariDes.The goal of the conference is to highlight factors that affectmaternal health, pregnancy outcomes and child health as theyrelate to minority health and health dispariDes includingrecommendaDonsforchangesinpolicyandhealthbehaviors.
Through presentaDons and panel discussions, thetopics to be covered will include: the effects of poverty onchildren’s mental, emoDonal and behavioral health; maternaltransmission of HIV/AIDS; the effects of maternal stress onperinatal development; the roots of newborn brain acDvity andbehavior; the effects of environmental toxins on childdevelopment ‐ social jusDce implicaDons; and maternal mentalhealth. The conference will be of interest to medical andbehavioralhealthcareprofessionals,mentalhealthprofessionals,public health officials, social workers, faculty, students,communityandhealthserviceagencies,andcommunityleaders.
