Carlton Speak 2018 Carlton Public School E-Bulletin
Dear Parents and Carers
Wow! Another busy and enjoyable week of school:
Swimming scheme starting thanks to Miss Kelly and all the staff for organising opportunities for such
invaluable life skills.
An amazing incursion for Stage 2 with the Colonial Show, thank you to Stage 2 staff it was wonderful to see
the students and teachers get into the spirit of the show and dress up.
Ausgrid Electricity Safety Week talks are organised for this Friday for all students and every student gets a
gift to take home. Thank you to George, one of our fathers for organising and presenting these talks to our
students.
It’s 3 Way Interview time in Week 10 and Week 1 next Term! Miss Morrison has been busy organising the 3 Way interview bookings for Parents, Teachers & Students. Interviews will be held in Week 10 this term and Week 1-Term 4.
On Monday the website will open so you can book your 3 way interview with the teachers online. Go to
www.schoolinterviews.com.au enter the code 6qvd8 for week 10 or p4yjt for Week1 next Term, click Go, enter your details, select your child’s teachers, choose from the available times and click to book them. Once you’re finished you will receive an email confirmation of the day and times for your interviews. Please be certain you finish all the steps. If you do not receive an email confirming your times then redo the process or call Ms Morrison on 9587 3717 for assistance. Please contact Mrs Hanley or Mrs Niko regarding interviews for 6 Orange.
Early Arrivals
Too many students are arriving to school prior to 8:30am and left unsupervised. Please be aware that staff are officially on duty at 8:30am. I am sure “Helping Hands” have spaces available in their morning care programs. If children arrive early they need to be seated under the COLA or on the surrounding steps until staff commence duty at 8:30am.
Double Parking
Double parking around the school between 2:50pm and 3:10pm has reached a point where many children and community members are being placed at great risk. I have watched cars around Cameron St, Byrnes St and Percival St overtake double parked cars and almost have head on collisions. The double parked cars are causing significant road blocks and holding up traffic for lengthy periods. Please be aware that as well as placing children and adults at great risk, the fines for double parking are hefty. Many of you are aware that the traffic authorities turn up regularly and issue dozens of on the spot fines. Please look after the safety of the children and park legally.
Term 3 - Week 8 Thursday 13 September 2018

If your child misses as little as 8 days a school term, by the end of
primary school they would have missed over a year of school.

Gardening Club The Gardening Club is coordinated by Mrs Miller and Mrs Riley. We meet every Monday at lunchtime to water the gardens and pick the vegetables that are ready for eating. The teachers have spent time teaching us how to take care of our garden and the seasons that we plant different types of fruits and vegetables. Do you know why bees are important in our garden? Bees are important in our garden because they pollinate, so we planted flowers to attract the bees.
We have tried to plant a variety of different plants and vegetables. These included snow peas, flowers, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, beetroot, carrots and mint. This week our carrots were ready …… We were lucky enough to be allowed to pick them all -Our largest carrot being 22 cm in length.

HELPING HANDS NEWS
What we’ve been up to:
We’ve had a busy month with lots of fun projects and focus areas. Our younger children have enjoyed practising
their writing on our mini whiteboards, and their spelling with our magnetic phonics kit. They have also been learning
to tie their shoelaces, with our own homemade shoelace templates which they loved making and personalising! We
have prepared some ‘homework packs’ to have available for all children to borrow, which contain pencils, pens,
rubbers, rulers and a sharpener so they are all ready to go. Monday’s have been our biggest day for Homework in
after school care so we have set up ‘homework stations’ to allow small tables for children to concentrate and
complete their work.
Capture the flag has been increasingly popular on Tuesdays, as is Soccer Club on Thursdays. Our chess board has
been getting a lot of use and we have made instruction guides to help facilitate the teaching and learning that was
already happening between children about the game. Origami club has started every 2nd Friday, and Drawing club
(Thursdays) is working on their own Colouring in Book which is very exciting. Fans of a certain famous wizard have
enjoyed our Harry Potter Potion Party (Science as magic!) and Harry Potter trivia.
Vacation Care Bookings now available!
See attached program for our exciting theme days, excursions and incursions we have planned 😊 Families of Helping
Hands should have received a program brochure via email, but we also have some available near our parent sign
in/out area in the hall. All bookings can be made online via the parent portal. If you need help with this, please let us
know!
Gate entrance/exit for afternoon pickups
For the safety of our children and in discussion with the P&C and school, we are moving towards utilising only the
main office gate entrance rather than the gate near the canteen for parent pickups from after school care. The gate
is often left open as parents walk in and out to collect their children. Our staff members are continuously closing it
when we are based under the COLA for afternoon tea, but it is not possible once inside the hall. We apologise for the
inconvenience as it will be a little further to walk for some of you, but we hope you can appreciate the reason behind
this change. We will start this from the beginning of next term. Please remember in Term 4 you will need to enter
and exit via the main office gate, as we will have the canteen gate locked from 3:30pm.
Recycled items wanted:
Currently seeking donations of small plastic bottles (600ml or less), string/wool, and newspaper for some upcoming
projects! We love re-using, recycling and upcycling at Helping Hands. Stay tuned to see what we make! :)

Indonesian News Students of Indonesian have been working tirelessly to expand their vocabulary and
improve their overall ability to read, speak, write and interpret sounds and text this term.
The weather has begun to warm up just in time for our wonderful students to tell you all
about it, as we’ve been focusing on using descriptive language to discuss the weather and
seasons. I’m sure many of you have heard that while the weather has been rather dingin
(cold) as of late, the panas (hot) weather has been a welcome change for us all. To go along
with our weather unit, some of our students have produced stunning artworks which depict
the four seasons.
This week, I would like to congratulate a student for their outstanding improvements
throughout term three. Milan Moses from Mr. Suter’s Kindergarten Indonesian class has
shown a dramatic change in his attitude and dedication to learning new words and phrases
in Indonesian. We at Carlton Public School are all very proud of your efforts. Well done,
Milan!
