Carlton Speak 2019 Carlton Public School E-Bulletin
Term 1 - Week 3 Friday 14 February
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a fantastic start to the 2020 school year and our students have all settled into their new
classes beautifully. We were so impressed with the seamless transition that our newest students
made into Kindergarten and there are still smiles all-round. It has also been lovely to welcome
many new families into our school community.
This term will be a productive one as we set routines and expectations together. Please feel free
to introduce yourself to your child’s class teacher as they will be keen to work with you in
partnership to ensure that educational, social and emotional goals are met.
Assemblies
While we love to celebrate learning across the school, as a staff we have reflected on the amount
of time we spend attending assemblies and the impact this was having on the core business of
teaching and learning. As a result, assemblies will be scheduled differently this year.

P&C
The P&C meeting was held on Tuesday evening and it had a very large representation of parents,
which was lovely to see. You have a very active and informed P&C who look forward to your
support to further strengthen their capacity to impact positively on the school community. They
are currently looking for volunteers to support the school banking program, if this is something you
have time for, can you please hop onto the Carlton Public Parent Hub on Facebook and let them
know. A reminder, that the P&C Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 10th March at
7pm in the library. Joining the P&C is a platform to have a voice and impact positively on the
school community. We hope you can attend the next meeting.
School Assets
Painting work: Currently the Year 1 classrooms and corridors are being repainted along with a few
other classrooms across the school. The teachers and Year 1 students are very excited about their
freshly painted classrooms.
Blinds: This week The Year 1, 3 and Kindergarten classrooms facing the two COLAs had new UV
one-way blinds installed to reduce the glare, although enabling natural light to still come into the
rooms. This has made a marked improvement to these classrooms.
COLA: The COLA capital works project was completed during the holidays. I also had skylights
installed into the existing COLA to increase the warmth and light in these outdoor learning spaces.
Furniture: The school will be investing heavily into a furniture upgrade this term for the K-3
classrooms. These classes are situated in the original buildings and the furniture has not been
upgraded for a very long time. The new furniture will be consistent in colour and type. The furniture
being purchased will encourage 4C learning where students will be able to collaborate more
effectively. The teachers are very eager for this change.
Playground: Mr Vrachas had scheduled soft fall to be installed under the new COLA over the
Christmas holiday period. However, it was determined that this was not the best durable product
for this space by the installers. Mr Vrachas and I met with designers on Tuesday. Moving forward, I
will work with a design team to install an amphitheatre, an outdoor learning area, seating, passive
play areas and handball courts. The installation of this project is scheduled to commence in week
10, Term 1 and should be completed over the April school holiday period.
Strategic Direction 3 of the school Plan - Promote Effective Communication & Connections
The school will be scheduling 2 parent workshops a term on educational practices across the
school. These will be hands on workshops where you will have the opportunity to engage in
activities and learn more about how your child learns the curriculum. Some topics we are
exploring are: how your child learns maths K-2/3-6, Robotics and STEAM, using the Google
classroom, phonics, what works best – a guide to home reading. If there is a particular topic you
would like to learn more about, please feel free to drop by and let Miss Rasmussen or Mrs Farag
know.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Welcome Parent BBQ and Meet the Teacher Information
sessions.
Kind Regards
Kylie McKinnon
Acting Principal
