Cabin Crew Fatigue Reporting

NASA ASRS: Reports related to fatigue

have increased substantially.

Cabin crew fatigue may be

occurring more frequently

and warrant more attention.

Conclusions -1- In case of an aircraft accident,

passenger survivability

depends on competent cabin

crew members’ safety performance;

Biggest threat: cabin crew fatigue

leading to lack of situational awareness

and wrong decision makings;

Flight duty hour limits & rest time need to be reviewed in line with for flight crew members;

Flight schedules need to reflect the effect of crossing over different time zones, etc. in consideration of circadian factors;

Conclusions -2-

Air carrier cabin crew management policy needs to

ensure strong support for cabin crew members’

safety/security related actions in-flight;

Enhance cabin crew safety and security training to promptly recognize acts of unlawful interference and take appropriate actions;

Enhance cabin crew safety training in association with

the effect of fatigue on cabin safety for cabin crew self-

fatigue management;

Encourage cabin crew members to voluntarily report fatigue related incidents for data collection and risk management.
