Objectives: -To what extent did the Allied victory in WWII lead the United States to become global power in the Atomic Age? -Identify the events that reveal the origins of the Cold War during the 1940s. -Evaluate President Harry Truman’s responses/policies to the Cold War from 1945-1952, including the new foreign policy of containment, Chinese Civil War, Korean War, and relationship with Japan. -Compare and contrast the causes and major actions of the first Red Scare that followed WWI with the second Red Scare and McCarthyism that was born of the Cold War.

Explain how social critics, nonconformists, and cultural rebels responded to this era of conformity. -Analyze the impact of scientific, technological, and medical innovation on America society. Make sure your analysis includes political, economic and social themes.
