come to life with such bright green hue and flowers are starting

such a loving family small as it is and lucky to have such GREAT friends I do
count my BPW members as my friends and yes ladiesyou are GREAT I am
very proud you You always come through for me and you did it again at the
March meeting We had a great turnout for the presentation made by Dan Ware
Tourism Director and local artist Carol Lanham They gave an excellent
program about the Mural that Carol is painting on the wall next to the Tourism
office located off I-65 South This beautiful mural tells the story of Simpson
County through the years for all of us and visitors to see We are very lucky to
have an artist with Carols talent in our community
Also during the meeting the little Leprechauns were working overtime
as we raised over $20000 for the BPW Kentucky Foundation with your
extra $3 dollars donations for our Irish based meal your bids during
our Going Green silent auction and for our Pot of Gold Raffle
Helen Pearson also had the Luck of the Irish because she was the lucky

April Highlights in US Womenrsquos History
Wear ldquoREDrdquo on Equal Pay Day to symbolize how far women
and minorities are in the red with their pay
What is
Equal Pay Day
Every year in April Business and Professional Womenrsquos Foundation (BPW Foundation) recognizes a
national day of action promoting fair pay known as Equal Pay Day Equal Pay Day is celebrated in
April because April symbolizes the month when womenrsquos wages catch up to menrsquos wages from the
previous year Equal Pay Day 2013 will be held on Tuesday April 9th
On Equal Pay Day BPW Foundation members and working women advocates around the country
mobilize their communities by holding press conferences signing proclamations hosting events and
meeting with policymakers to push for stronger state and federal equal pay laws
Gender Wage Disparity Continues
According to Census statistics released in September 2010 women working full-time year
round make on average 77 cents for every dollar a male earns An alternative to the wage gap
which is measuring the ratio between womenrsquos and menrsquos median weekly earnings for full-time workers
was 802 percent in 2009 which is flat since the historical high of 810 percent in 2005
Median earnings for women of color are consistently lower In 2009 in comparison to the earnings of
white men African American women earned 675 percent Asian American women earned 90 percent
and Hispanic women earned 577 percent
Over a lifetime of work this loss adds up into a shockingly high career wage gap The career
gap lowers womenrsquos earnings over a lifetime and reduces their long-term assets and that of their
families The typical woman loses $431000 in pay over a 40-year career
Wage disparity persists across all educational levels and in all states Women with the most
education lose the most in earnings Women with a college degree or higher lose $713000 over a
40-year period versus a $270000 loss for women who did not finish high school
Equal Pay Public Policy
In 2009 the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was signed into law which amends the Civil Rights Act of
1964 stating that the 180-day statute of limitations for filing an equal-pay lawsuit regarding pay
discrimination resets with each new discriminatory paycheck
Now we must pass The Paycheck Fairness Act which will strengthen the Equal Pay Act by closing
loopholes and improving the laws effectiveness Congress came close to passing the Paycheck Fairness
Act in the 111th Congress however it unfortunately failed in the Senate by a very small margin in
December 2010

ldquoWEALTHYrdquo
Seven Proven Steps to Wealth - The Formula for
Creating All the Money You Will Ever Want By Diane Kennedy
The Financial Treadmill
Does it ever seem to you that you are working harder and
harder just to stay even or worse yet only to be a little
farther behind each month If so yoursquore like millions of
other people all around the world The problem is that the
way we have been taught to earn money and create wealth
doesnrsquot work any more
First wersquore taught to (1) get a good education get a good
job and then work hard That means that yoursquore working
for someone else The company pays you a salary and the
government gets their cut first in the form of taxes You
get whatrsquos left over From that left-over money you need to
pay for all of your expenses and if you have anything left
over yoursquore too busy and too tired to look for an
investment So you just save the money in a low interest
account or a 401(k) plan
If the business that employs you gets more valuable it
doesnrsquot help you at all In fact it could endanger your job
as additional investment funds might mean capital
improvements that mean your job is now no longer
necessary If the business gets less valuable you lose as
well So therersquos no gain with your job and no security
Your savings account if you are able to start one is
growing at rate that is less than the rate of inflation
Saving money would actually mean that you are losing
money In fact in the accounting world we generally refer
to CDrsquos (Certificates of Deposits) as Certificates of
Depreciation Itrsquos a sure-fire way to lose wealth
No wonder you feel tired and scared
There is Another Way
The path for wealth is actually comprised of Seven Proven
Steps You can choose to do one or all of them The more
fully you participate in as many of the steps as possible
the more positive your results will be
Create a Business Make sure itrsquos in the proper business
structure that you have plans for (1) A clear exit strategy
(2) How you will fund the business (3) How you will take
money out of it and (4) A strategy to run it in a way that
reduces risk for you Sometimes starting a business is as
simple as changing your employment status from an
employee to an independent contractor

Deductions It can be a major eye-opener when
the first-time business owner discovers all the
things that are now tax-deductible These are the
things you used to spend money on anyway The
difference is that they are now deductible Make
sure your Seven Proven Steps plan includes a
method for discovering and properly documenting
these expenses This is how the business can give
you money tax free Pay Your Taxes No kidding
This is part of the overall Seven Proven Steps
process Use proper planning to pre- pay just
enough in taxes at the latest possible time In this
way you can get 0 loans from the government
on your tax money When you have multiple
businesses you can often select when you want to
pay taxes and defer into a far distant time
Whats Left Goes Into Real Estate You might not
be able to hit the ideal investment strategy
initially of having all leftover business cash go
into real estate But the more you can put into
real estate without needing to draw anything for
personal living expenses the faster your income
will grow Make sure your real estate investment
is done with the proper leverage and through the
optimum structures Real Estate Income Comes
Out Tax-Free A good real estate investment will
create cash flow for you If you have made a good
deal yoursquoll have cash flow And if you have a
good tax plan yoursquoll pay ZERO TAXES on that
cash flow Buy a House the Right Way You need
a place to live and face it thatrsquos not an asset that
will put money in your pocket In fact your home
quite likely will be one of the biggest expenses
yoursquoll have Look for good deals in neighborhoods
that are appreciating and make the best deal
possible on financing Make sure you have a
contingency plan in case the value drops and your
other income goes down And above all use the
homestead laws andor a business structure to
protect your investment Make Your House Give
You Money The biggest gift that Congress has
ever given us is available ONLY for homeowners
The one requirement is that you have to move
You can also take the money out tax free from
your home to invest in other businesses or real
estate properties Itrsquos a gift ndash take advantage of
all that the IRS allows
The Results
You now have three potential places for your
wealth to increase ndash your home your real estate
and your business Instead of you working for
your money you have your money working for
you in multiple places You are no longer at the
whim of an employer or a 401(k) plan for your
financial freedom You control it with a plan that
grows money at a minimum tax rate

April BIRTHDAYS

The Results
You now have three potential places for your
wealth to increase ndash your home your real estate
and your business Instead of you working for
your money you have your money working for
you in multiple places You are no longer at the
whim of an employer or a 401(k) plan for your
financial freedom You control it with a plan that
grows money at a minimum tax rate

gap lowers womenrsquos earnings over a lifetime and reduces their long-term assets and that of their
families The typical woman loses $431000 in pay over a 40-year career

HEALTHY WEALTHY amp WISE A program to help us learn about becoming
HEALTHY in mind body amp soul WEALTHY in finances and friendships WISE in decisions and relationships and always learning
ldquo HEALTHYrdquo Stress Awareness
National Stress Awareness Day is celebrated on April 16th every year Thus April is known as Stress Awareness Month Today there are umpteen numbers of reasons for a person to get stressed out National Stress Awareness Day celebrations give an opportunity to be aware of plenty of stress in your life April 16th is the day after taxes are due hence got designated as Stress Awareness Day In UK National Stress Awareness Day held in November is organized by the International Stress Management Association The date might change every year
National Stress Awareness Day History
The National Stress Awareness Day is sponsored by HRN ie the Health Resource Network This day began to be celebrated from 1992 onwards aiming at increasing the public awareness of the causes and cures of stress This day gives everyone a chance to look at their stressful lives and teaches them how to deal with them in a healthy manner
How to celebrate the day
Have a look at your stressful life
Even if you couldnrsquot get through your day doing all the things you have planned donrsquot get tensed If you could cover the important things you are successful
Think about stress relieving ways and spend the day with your loved ones which keeps you stress free
Keep yourself free and cool doing nothing or just having fun at least once a year and enjoy

ldquoWEALTHYrdquo
(2) How you will fund the business (3) How you will take
money out of it and (4) A strategy to run it in a way that
reduces risk for you Sometimes starting a business is as
simple as changing your employment status from an
employee to an independent contractor

bull Always be aware of your surroundings especially at
night When parking walking or returning to your car
remain in well-lit and populated areas
bull Wear sneakers or shoes that allow for added mobility
bull Be watchful and aware Keep your head up
Make quick eye contact with those around you and be
observant of passing vehicles
bull Donrsquot become distracted by talking on a cell phone or
listening to an iPodsimilar device
bull Avoid walking alone late at night Walk with friends
and people you know
bull Keep a whistle within reach If you feel threatened
use the whistle to signal residents that you need
assistance
bull Yelling ldquoFirerdquo ldquoHelprdquo andor ldquoRaperdquo are ways of

certain time so that in the event you fail to show up
theyrsquoll know enough to begin looking for you

The Results
You now have three potential places for your
wealth to increase ndash your home your real estate
and your business Instead of you working for
your money you have your money working for
you in multiple places You are no longer at the
whim of an employer or a 401(k) plan for your
financial freedom You control it with a plan that
grows money at a minimum tax rate

sure your Seven Proven Steps plan includes a
method for discovering and properly documenting
these expenses This is how the business can give
you money tax free Pay Your Taxes No kidding
