PPC/Bullseye Building: Cabinet finishing is still in
progress. Thanks to Terry Wright for changing the furnace filters.
Members Password: The password to get into the
member’s section of the website was changed on May 3rd, 2015.
You received this when you receive your 2015 membership card.
The old one does not work any longer.
August Elections: Anyone who wishes to run for one of the
offices or division director jobs must let us know by the June meeting. Members may also nominate someone for one of
the positions at that meeting.
Early voting:
You will be able to vote early on the following dates;
Tuesday, July 7 Brickyard 6:00-8:00 pm
Thursday, July 9 Bass Pro 6:30-8:30 pm
Sunday, July 12 Brickyard 9:00am –1:00 pm
Sunday, July 19 McBride 8:00 am -12:00 pm
Sunday, July 26 McBride 12:00-4:00 pm
Monday Trap: Everyone is welcome. Bring your favorite shotgun, lots of shells and help us rid the range of all of
these pesky pigeons. Pistol and Rifle shooters are encouraged to attend, to stop looking at the front sight and enjoy the
fun. Official hours are from 5:30 -??? but we usually start gathering about 4:30 and start shooting as soon as we have
enough shooters—usually around 5:15 or so. You don’t need to bring your spotting scope to score the targets—there is
instant gratification (or not).
You must bring your 2015 membership card (not your gate card) and a photo ID. You will be given a ballot to mark
and you will put it in a locked box, that will not be opened until the election at the August general membership
meeting. To vote at the general membership meeting you also must bring your membership card and a photo ID.

Gravel on ground directly in front of
the far left (25 yard) target frame
Source of that gravel. Bullet cut
through the bottom cap of the
‘Group’ of 17 holes fired into the baffle
#2 in front of the 25 yard target range #2.
Work Projects: Bob Hudson, Rick Lance, James Smoots, George Monahan and Phil Parks installed the cable
from the gate to the shotgun building at McBride. Thanks guys. It makes updating the gate much easier. Rick Lance,
George Monahan, George’s grandson and Bob Hudson moved the 200 yard target frames in preparation for the
installation of the new 200 yard target line. Rick Lance has also been hard at work moving dirt in preparation for the
installation. Thanks to all. In the near future, when it gets dry enough, Rick will finish the dirt work and Luffland
Industries will have a crew out to install the concrete for the firing line. This will mean that you may come out to shoot
on Range I and it will be closed. Sorry but it has to be done. The will only work on it during the week during normal
working hours so you can still shoot your rifle on the weekends, later in the day or on Range 2. There will also be a
work crew on the PPC/BE (range 7) installing walkways and on the shotgun range installing a pad for a new storage
building when the weather allows. Thanks to Phil Parks for all the work he has been doing on the archery range. Thank
Rick Lance for grading the roads at McBride. Thanks to Joe Tapko and Rick Lance for doing the mowing.
Thanks to the YHEC members and to all others who helped clean up after the storm on May 16. It is good to see members
pitch in and get things done without being asked.
Range Damage: There has been a lot of additional damage done on Rifle Range # 2 by someone who thinks it is
fun to shoot the baffles. The bottom beam on three of the baffles have been severely damaged with gravel leaking from
them and will need to be repaired. The covering on a couple of baffles will need to be replaced. In addition someone
with a high powered rifle has shot a hole in the roof and it is obvious that that bullet left the range. Until these repairs on
the 25 and 50 yard areas of the range have been done they will remain closed. Thanks to the fine individuals who did the
damage for the expense and inconvenience they have caused. Help us catch these people. Do you want a restricted and
fully supervised range? That will have to happen if this stuff doesn’t stop.

Dear Pioneer Gun Club,
I recently received the March issue of Down Range and was saddened to read of J. K. Chester’s passing.
Many years ago I joined Pioneer to enable my son Dean Dwigans to enter the junior shooters group. Mr.
Chester was very active in overseeing my son’s progress and helped him find his first target rifle. My son
received the one-year traveling trophy from Mr. Chester for his progress. I have kept up my membership for
all these years in order to facilitate the club’s programs and especially the junior shooters.
While a member of the junior shooters group, my son joined the Shawnee Police Department Boy Scout Law
Enforcement Explorer’s program and later graduated from the Reserve Police Training Academy while still in
high school. His Pioneer firearms training served him well to pass the police firearms course. After college
and law school, my son entered the Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps, serving for 26 years before
retiring as a Captain in 2010. His time included assignments with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service
and responsibility for the internal security force of an aircraft carrier, where his earlier firearms training no
doubt served him very well. During his active duty time he always earned the highest rating for firearms
qualification, which he attributed to early and proper firearms training that all began at Pioneer.
This is only one example of what certainly were many more examples of the impact of the work and
dedication of Mr. Chester and the Pioneer Gun Club. I am enclosing a check made out to the Pioneer Gun
Club for $100 in memory of Mr. Chester.
Best regards,
Joe L. Dwigans

The grass is growing and the weeds are blooming. John Downs and Sam Cox are
doing a good job keeping the grass Mowed 2,despite the weather and mechanical
break downs, but they need help weed whacking. There is no way one or two people
can keep up with it. If you can help, let me know. I will get you access to the weed
eaters both at the Brickyard and McBride.
This past month, George Monahan, Jack Smart, Joe Tapko, and Bob Hudson spent
around 128 hours doing various jobs at Mc Bride. 128 X 21 = $ 2688.00 Money
saved by the club.
Rick Lance / MacGyver has spent a lot of time working on OUR CLUB. He has
made up a bunch of signs that were needed. He mowed all the berms with his
monster berminator. He spent a bunch of hours digging a trench for the 200 yard target stands and building up a low
berm using his own equipment. I don’t know how many hours he worked on it but I am going to guess at least 40 hours.
I am going to give him a special pay rate of 40 dollars an hour; that is less than the rental time of the equipment used.
So Rick saved the club 40 X 40 = $ 1600.00 This month, Oh wait. I forgot the 4 hours trenching from the gate to the
shotgun building and filling it back in and the 10 hours grating the roads and parking lots. 14 X 40 = $ 560.00 more
dollars saved by the club. George Monahan has spent several hours doing maintenance on our riding Mower. We have
another one that needs repair / servicing, if you can help with this please let me know.
Jack Smart, James Smoots, George Monahan, Joe Tapko and Bob Hudson spent 8 hours running wires and hooking up
the gate to the computer in the shot gun building 5 X 8 = 40 x 21 = $ 840.00 That makes it a total of $ 5688 Savings
for the club. This = the dues of 28.44 club members.
I know that there are more people working on club stuff but I did not hear from anyone else, so I don’t have their names
or work hours.
This month we will be building a safe room to work on jammed guns or guns that need to be unloaded but are not
working. Another project will be the building of the bridge to the archery range. Let me know if you can help and when
we can schedule it then.
Anyone wanting to know when we work, send me an e-mail at [email protected] I will add you to the E-
Mailings to let you know when and where. We are always looking for help. You can learn or teach. We need the
training. If you want to take on any of the jobs that we have pending, let me know. You can pick a date. I will try and
get you some help if you like.
I just remembered a work crew who has appeared from time to time I don’t know when or how long they worked. They
are from KC Web Internet & Network Solutions. They have installed internet hot spots at all the buildings at McBride
at no cost to the club. So if you need any kind of help like that give them a call. 816-540-6348
The list is getting shorter but it will have things added to it.
Caulk holes in baffles at McBride Paint outside of Brickyard Range
Repair roof of Barn. Remove all old fences that are not being used at McBride
Finish cutting trees on berms at McBride Making the trailer frame into a bridge.
Build a Bathroom at the Brickyard.
My Christmas wish list this year of things that I think we need. 1) A bigger mower / tractor for the Brickyard.
2) A golf cart for McBride. Several golf carts, actually.
3) Hand tools, chisels, pliers, Crescent wrenches, ETC.
4) With all your new Christmas gifts, think of your gun club as a place to retire your old good quality toys ( TOOLS ).
5) A member who will work on our equipment.

LOST AND FOUND; For the 8th time. Two rifles were found on the
range on 02-Nov-14. They have been reported in this newsletter every
month except one when I failed to submit a range report. It is amazing
that anyone could not know that they are missing 2 guns.
Also, I still have a set of electronic hearing
muffs found on range for the 2nd month now.
See photo.
Also, I found a 30 round Brownells AR magazine with some .300 Blackout ammo in it.
As most are aware, we have had significant damage to the baffles on range #2, and it
continues. The last incidents discovered was the baffle above the 25 target frame range #2.
Somebody shot the bottom baffle cap and the gravel had drained out on the ground. The top
2X4 was shot completely in half. New boards had been installed March work day. There
was another group of seventeen .22 caliber bullet holes in the baffles in front of the 25 yard line. Moving on back to
the all steel baffles there is additional significant damage in 2 area. AND, there is now what appears to be a .45-70
bullet hole through the ‘eyebrow’ in front of the center bay. I say .45-70 because it would require a rifle to make this
size hole. See photos.
The 2 far left shooting bays on range 2 has been closed until repairs can be made, and we are not in any real rush to
do that. This negatively impacts on all of us. But there seems to be no choice.
I sincerely doubt that the shooters doing this damage is acting totally solo. SOMEBODY knows who is doing some of
this vandalism and is protecting the persons doing it.
In an effort to be civil and not to digress to comment mot publishable in the Bulletin, I will close.

We may need some help mowing at McBride. John Downs normally mows but is out
for surgery. We wish the very best for him.
If the range you want to shoot on needs mowed call me and I will help you get started.
We have several projects going on right now.
Range one is getting new 200 yard target frames and will be subject to closure.
The PPC range is getting some new walkways and will also be subject to closure.
All the pistol ranges will be getting new posts across the openings that will not
allow cars on the range. I could use some help with this. The plinking range is already
done. Thanks to Ty Markle for helping there.
We are also working on a bridge for the creek up by the archery Range, and we
hope to start on the safe room very soon. We need help with both of these projects.
Also check out the new archery range layout Phil has done! We could use some round bales up there if anyone has
some they could donate.
Wireless Internet is working in the three main buildings. Give a big Thanks to Todd and Julie at KC Web for this
wonderful donation!
Lets see some new faces out there working this month. It seems like we have a small group of members doing
EVERYTHING! These members are giving there all to this club. It would be nice to have a large group of members all
doing a little and we could get the same things accomplished, or maybe even more!
Remember to always swipe your card at the gate, even if it is already open, and sign in when you get there.
Please come to the meetings and help us make this club the very best it can be!
Thanks!

Our April match [first of the season] was held on the 25th. We had nine
brave souls show up on a rainy day. We were able to get the first 5
slighter rounds off before it started raining. We then had a 45 minute
BULL SHOOTING session. Finally the rain stopped. It rained hard
enough to wash the targets right off of the backers so we put up new
targets and finished the match with no more rain.
We had a couple of new shooters that did very well. Ed Koop had the
high score of the match with Gary Albrecht, who missed all of last year,
coming in a close second; Richard Windsor [a past club M1 champion]
was third. Jeff Taylor came over from Topeka and shot with us; he holds matches at the Capitol City Gun club on a
monthly basis. All in all it was not a bad start to the season, no one got wet, we had some new shooters who shot some
good scores and we got in 45 minutes of BULL SHOOTING which is always a good thing. GEO.
MAY HI-POWER RESULTS
We had a NO RAIN match today. We had 14 shooters show up that believed it was not going to rain and it didn’t. Our
match winner was Frank Harles with a great score of 490/19x. Devin Schwindt [junior shooter] was second with a
486/13x. Will Sisson [grand senior “like me”] was third with a 484/19x. Frank and Will both cleaned the slow fire
portion of the match with 200 scores. Frank with a 200/15x and Will with a 200/17x. We had a new shooter that came
over from the Topeka area, Dave Rasmusson shooting a Garand that did well. Morgan Patterson [junior shooter]
brought a rifle that he had not shot before and was unable to get it on target. Better luck next time. I will be ordering
some Garand A course score cards for the shooters who wants to shoot a 30 shot match instead of the 50 shot match.
Next match 27 June. GEO.
15 PIONEER GUN CLUB – JUNE 2015
We had another good turn out for the May Match and Clinic. It rained a little before
the match and then the rain stayed away until well after we were done for the day.
There were nine shooters from out of town, including 7 time World Champion Cathy
Winstead-Severin. What a treat to watch her drop animal after animal.
For the matches we had 21 shooters for the first match (3 relays) and 16 for the second
(2 relays). We had 6 Juniors attend. The four members of the Missouri State 4H
Smallbore Rifle team shot both matches and attended the Clinic, as well as Sophie
Roper and Garrin Massey. Adam Bell and Clint Munzlinger (our own Missouri State
Champ) had completed one of the new target frames and we tested it on a chicken
position. It seemed to function well, so we are proceeding with the other stands.
After the matches, we adjourned to the club house for some BBQ and Clinic discussion led by Adam Bell and Cathy
Winstead-Severin. I think it is safe to say that everyone learned something. We then moved back to the range for some
hands on suggestions. Adam, Cathy, and Clint split the shooters into groups and gave each some personal instruction.
Our next match will be June 13th. We hope to use a combination of old and new target stands to allow 12 shooters per relay.
Here are the scores for the May Match.

16 PIONEER GUN CLUB – JUNE 2015
Action Pistol shooting schedule for June:
Wednesday evening practice sessions – Brickyard, 5 p.m. – June 10 and 24.
The monthly outdoor match will be Sunday, June 7, at McBride starting at 8
a.m. As usual, Joe will be cooking breakfast at 7 a.m. in the Shotgun
building.
Outdoor matches will continue through the summer and fall on the first
Sunday of each month.
The May 3 monthly match had great turnout with 17 competitors. These monthly matches are a great way to practice
and a lot of fun. Come and join us whenever you can.
Recent Match Activity:
Crawfish Cup – Lake Charles, LA
The Southwest Louisiana Rifle and Pistol Club in Lake Charles, Louisiana held their annual ‘Crawfish Cup’ on the
weekend of April 24-25 with 74 total competitors. Nine PGC members traveled to Lake Charles to compete in this
event.
This yearly match is always a great competition as well as an opportunity to take advantage of the excellent seafood
found in southern Louisiana. As always, we had a great time – in spite of the monsoon rains the morning of the match.
PGC members participating were: Jack Arnold, Jim Barnes, Tom Berry, Ron DeJarnette, Jeremy Newell, Jim
Reynolds, Charlie Rice, Keith Shockley, and Ed Theno.
Jeremy Newell placed sixth overall with an outstanding score of 1901x151.
Match day started with a three hour
rainstorm…
Ed Theno and Jack Arnold waiting to shoot. Jim Barnes on the Mover
Charlie Rice on the Falling Plates Jeremy Newell on the Mover
And Tom Berry (who shot well even
though he now resides in Texas)

PGC Flagler Cup – May 17, 2015.
The annual Flagler Cup was held on Sunday, May 17 with over 85 competitors. We had shooters from all over the US,
from Australia, New Zealand, and Germany, as well as the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit.
Our match is a great preparation for the Bianchi Cup and brings in great shooters from all over the world.
We would like to thank all the volunteers who helped make this a great match. We very much appreciate the time and
effort this week by all who helped get the range ready (even with all the rain) and then ran the match.
A large THANK YOU to the women who did all the work to prepare a great lunch and then cleaned up the mess – we
really could not do this without you. The food was wonderful, as usual.
And thank you to all of our sponsors who always help make this match a success.
2015 Flagler Cup winner – Anna Mackiewicz
with an outstanding score of 1916x171. Great job, Anna!!
And, not to be left out, PGC’s Ty Markle wins Marksman class with
a score of 1705x91 –
Pretty good for someone who has only been shooting Action Pistol for
a few months. It’s a safe bet Ty won’t stay in
Marksman class for very long.
