    This controlled Jet-Stream coolant, directed onto the insert chip

    nterface (right under the chip and over the insert cutting edge) willissipate the generated heat very effectively as well as lubricatehe cutting edge of the insert, causing the chips to hydroplane

    Why The Dorian Jet-Stream?The advanced and unique technology of the Jet-Stream ThruCoolant System, offers the ability to process the coolant sup-

    plied from the machines pump with maximum efciency, speedand volume. The speed and volume of the coolant coming out

    of the Jet-Stream nozzle directly onto the insert cutting edge

    will improve machining performance.

    Anyone who is even casually involved with metalworkingknows that cutting tools generate large amounts of heat, whichis detrimental to the usable life of carbide inserts.

    To overcome this problem with standard turning tools, the op -erator aims the coolant by hand at the tool using snap together

    plastic beads or copper tubing. Every operator does it differ-

    ently, and during machining operation the coolant lines are

    frequently pushed out of alignment so that the operator has

    to manually readjust the aim of the coolant, often every time

    they change a part. One coolant manufacturer estimates that40% of the time the coolant doesnt hit the tool or the part.

    Even when the coolant hits the tool there is no directional con-trol; it typically comes from the top and hits the chips before it

    can reach the inserts cutting edge where heat is accumulating.Real process control from setup to setup and throughout a pro-

    duction run is virtually nonexistent.

    Improved Productivity:The Jet-Stream Thru Coolant System will immediately improve machine performance with higher sfm (surface fooage), extended tool life, ability to hold closer tolerances, an

    improvement of surface nish. The Jet-Stream tooling wexcel because it makes machining simple and easy for mate

    als ranging from low carbon steel to high temper alloys, exoticand aerospace materials.

    How to Optimize Productivity:A minimum of 70 psi is required for the Jet-Stream to shoimprovements in machining performance. To reach optimu

    results, higher coolant pressure and volume are necessar

    Maximum performance will be achieved at 1000 psi with a cooant volume of gpm (gallon per minute) per machine horse

    power. Example: A 15 HP machine will need a coolant pump o1000 psi with 7.5 gpm of coolant volume.

    How To Guarantee Results: DO NOT exceed the insert machining data. DO Not take too deep of a cut without the proper

    coolant pressure and volume.

    If the chips are not breaking your machining data

    or insert are incorrect. Make sure you have a large enough coolant pump on

    the machine to supply sufcient coolant volume whenhigh and super high pressure is required.

    The most popular threading and grooving system in

    the industry. The toolholders and boring bars are to

    be used with threading or grooving inserts, for eitherexternal or internal applications, in right or left hand

    cutting direction.

    Two (2) types of locking systems available: "M" - Multi lock system for TNMA style insert "S" - Torx screw locking system for TNMC style

    insert

    On edge 60 triangle threading inserts have three (3)cutting edges. The insert is mounted on the side or end

    of the threading holder or boring bar. The same insert

    can be used for either OD or ID threading, in right handor left hand cutting direction.

    "A" style with straight hole for "M" style holder andboring bar

    "C" style with double countersink for "S" style holder

    and boring bar

    The on edge system offers a complete selection of

    thread, API, and groove form inserts.

    The most compact system designed for external or

    internal threading applications, for right and left hand

    cutting direction. The great advantage of this system over

    others, is the ability to thread the smallest bore diameters

    allowed in single point threading operation.

    The three (3) cutting edge insert is locked down in hori-zontal position over the holder or boring bar, allowingthe chip to ow without restriction.

    The laydown threading system offers the most completeselection of thread-form insert line in inches (TPI), metric

    (ISO), and API with single and multi thread form, in fullor partial thread prole.

    The unique clamping design of DorNotch, makes it most rigid threading system. The insert nested on

    side of the holder or the end of the boring bar is h

    extremely secure with a top clamp, forcing the insdown and against the walls of the pocket. This assuthe best tool life, a chatter free surface nish, andprecise workpiece quality.

    Always make sure that the toolholder is held at a 90 angle to

    the material being turned.

    Insert center height should be kept at the center line of the

    workpiece to .005 above the centerline

    For best results keep the fade rate between .003 and .012 ipr

    Dwell tool in bottom of cut no more than three revolutions.

    Back Turning

    Maximum depth of cut should be kept below .110 for .250 IC

    Wide Grooves

    Plunge both sides of the groove width rst.

    operation.

    Rough the prole as if cutting a wide groove.

    Special Considerations for Laydown Threading

    Thread Compatability

    Internal and external threads can have different

    variables, such as depth and radii. This can lead to

    the incompatability of the threads.

    Thread Cutting Rake

    The rake for Dorian's threading external toolholders

    is 10 and the rake for Dorian's internal threadingbars is as follows:

    Insert Size 11, 16, 22 - 15 Insert Size 27 - 10

    This difference in the rake angle for the internal and

    external threading tools allow for the radial clear-ance.

    Insert Conguration

    Inserts and threading tools should always match. Theinsert for an internal right hand boring bar must be an

    internal right hand insert.
